What is TRIZ?
Is a “problem-solving, analysis and forecasting tool derived from the study of patterns of invention in the global patent literature.”1
1. Hua, Z.; Yang, J., Coulibaly, S. and Zhang, B. (2006)..”Integration TRIZ with problem solving literature review from 1995 to 2006”. International Journal of Business Innovation and Research 1 (1-2): 111–128. Retrieved 2 October 2010.
2
“You can wait a hundred years for enlightment or you can solve the problem in 15 minutes with these principles”
Genrich Altshuller
3
By 1969 Altschuller had reviewed about 40,000 patent abstracts in order to find out what way the innovation had taken place. By the same year he had developed the concept of technical contradictions, the concept of ideality of a system, contradiction matrix and 40 principles of inventions.
4
In the following years he developed the concept of physical contradictions, SuField analysis (structural substance-field analysis), standard solutions, several laws of technical systems evolution, and numerous theoretical and practical approaches.
5
By 1971, with the help of the The Inventors Society he established the Azerbaijan Institute for Inventive Creation and the first TRIZ research lab called The Public Lab for Inventive Creation.
The TRIZ Association was formed in 1989 and Altshuller was chosen President.

Problems
1. How can I be more productive in performing my assignments?
2. How can I specialize in a specific area or subject?
3. How can I pass my exams?
8
Activity#1 – underlying effects of TRIZ Someone, some where has solved your problem on a very similar one (Creativity is to find the solution an adapt it to your own circumstances)
9
Activity #2 – How have the selected problems been solved elsewhere?
1. Choose the first three selected problems
2. Use the previous diagram to generalize the situation
3. Where do similar problems exist? 4. How have they been solved? YOU HAVE 45 MINUTES

IFR – Ideal Final Result Incremental innovation always increases
the ideality of a system The IFR is the end of a series of
incremental innovations
Fuente: TRIZ Journal,Darrel Man
20
The IFR describes the solution to a problem, no matter the constraints on the original problem
For example: The final result doesn’t need any space, it
does not weight, it does not require any labour, or maintenance, etc.
21
Activity#4 Define the IFR for your selected problem You have 10 minutes!!
23
Activiy #5 Make a checklist of the elements that your solution
(IFR) must fulfill You have 15 minutes!!! CHECKLIST 1. Asesor nutricional a un bajo costo. 2. Asesor nutricional capacitado. 3.
trabajo. 4. Asesor nutricional con disponibilidad de horario. 5. Alimentos sencillos de adquirir. 6. Alimentos de fácil preparación. 7. Poco tiempo para la preparación de alimentos.

Innovative solutions use the same system´s resources
Materials Information Time People Energy Space Functions . . .
46
System, subsystem and supersystem
Ubicación del problema en el tiempo. ¿Cuáles son los subsistemas, componentes y
suprasistemas?
47

How can I solve the problem?
49
• Super-system: External environment and components that the problem or system interacts or may interact with • System: The problem or system that was created • Subsystem: A component or parts of the problem or system
How can I solve the problem?
50
• Past: If I could travel back in time and do something to prevent this problem, what would it be?
• Present: If I could do something different right now so that this problem wouldn’t be happening, what would it be?
• Future: The problem is happening, and I wasn’t able to prevent it. How can I fix it?

9 windows or finding the problem areas Activity #10 Perform the 9 windows technique with
your selected problem You have 20 minutes!
56
The analysis tools that help to redefine the problem are: ◦ IFR ◦ Functional Analysis ◦ Resources ◦ Locate the problem areas ◦ 9 windows
57
The steps are: Select the problem or repeat the steps
until the problem is refined Use a tree diagram or add a branch
representing the possible solution
58
If you have found solutions to the problem, keep them for evaluation and implementation
 Then select TRIZ tools
59
Principles of invention
For technical contradictions, use the 40 principles
For physical contradictions, use principles of separation
60
Two types of contradictions
Technical or trade-off : something improves but something else deteriorates
 Physical: a parameter has opposite requirements: ◦ Hot/cold ◦ Soft/hard
61
You must use the problem statement to detect the contradiction: ◦ The table is stronger(good) but heavier (bad) ◦ Bandwidth increases (good) but it requires
more energy(bad) ◦ Customer service improves (good) with more
trainning but the working time decreases(bad)
62
Read the paper from Helen Domb Choose five principles and search for an
example for each one of the principles Activity #11 In your team, search for images of
innovative products, which principles do you think they use? Search for 10 innovative products
63
65
50% of the time the best solution is in the intersection. In order to achieve 100%, you must use other principles
66
Activity #12 State the contradictions of your chosen
problem Find the principles that apply to such
contradictions Write a paragraph explaining how to
apply such principles in orden to find the solution
 You have 30 minutes!! 67
