The film, los voces inocentes, is set in 1986 and shows the injustice against innocent people who are forced to fight in the war. It follows the story of the narrator, an 11 year old boy named Chava. His father escaped to America at the start of the civil war when he was only 5. His family lives in a small town of Cuscatancingo that is currently heavily fought over between the Salvadoran army and the El Salvador guerrillas.

El Salvador is one of the smallest countries of Central America with a population of approximately six million people.  In the year 1980, El Salvador suffered from one of the bloodiest and long lasting wars which lasted for a 12 year period. This war caused the deaths of 75,000 people and many innocent people were separated from their families. A lot of the people killed were innocent children and mothers. This war was fought between the Salvadoran government and FMLN which was a left wing group that was composed of guerillas
