Magnitud del problema

• Número de muertes por suicidio supera las causadas conjuntamente por guerras, terrorismo y asesinatos1

• Cada año se producen un millón de muertes por suicidio en el mundo1

• Un suicidio consumado cada 30 segundos2

• El suicidio es la causa líder número 13 de muerte en el mundo1

Conclusiones

• Precauciones al usar los datos sobre el suicidio– La manera en que se registran los suicidios varía

enormemente según los países

• En Chile recién desde el año 2000 se ha logrado construir un registro confiable

Conclusiones

• La descripción sociodemográfica de la población que efectuó suicidio constituye la base para el posterior estudio de variables significativas con importancia biológica y preventiva en Chile .
