An indirect object is the person or thing that indirectly receives the action of the verb.

An indirect object answers the question To whom? or For whom?

Por ejemplo: I write a letter to María.

To whom do I write a letter?To María

Otro ejemplo: I’m giving you a gift.

To whom am I giving a gift?To you

“María” is the indirect object

“You” are the indirect object

-Ejemplo: Yo le doy mi boleto a la auxiliar de vuelo. ( I give my ticket to the flight attendant )

Or the indirect object pronoun replaces the noun totally if people know about whom you’re speaking.

-Ejemplo: Yo le doy mi boleto.( I give my ticket to her)

The indirect object pronoun always“matches” and often “accompanies” the noun it modifies

(to me) (to us)

(to you)

(to him, to her, to it, to you formal)

(to them, to you all)

When there is 1 verb, the pronoun goes in front of the verb.

-Ej: Yo les escribo una carta a mis abuelos.

When there are 2 verbs, the pronoun can go in front of the first or be attached to the end of the infinitive. . . sound familiar?

-Ej: Yo voy a escribirles una carta a mis abuelos.

or

-Ej: Les voy a escribir una carta a mis abuelos.

I give you a ticket

Yo te doy un boleto.

You give me a ticket

Tú me das un boleto.

We give him a ticket

Nosotros le damos un boleto.

They give us a ticket

Ellos nos dan un boleto.

You give them a ticket

Tú les das un boleto.

I am going to give you all a ticket

Voy a darles un boleto.

Les voy a dar un boleto.
