Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This is a special year for the Archdiocese of Chicago as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Catholic Charities. Catholic Charities’ centennial year

is truly a celebration for all of us because its great tradition of charitable care has included the support of volunteers and donors from every parish in the archdiocese. For 100 years, through every era of war, peace, poverty and

prosperity, Catholic Charities has worked together with the faithful to fulfill the Gospel mission to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, welcome the

stranger, comfort the afflicted, and bring hope to the hopeless.

Each year on Mother’s Day, we have an opportunity to make a financial contribution to the Catholic Charities Mother’s Day Collection. This year, as we face increasing violence in our communities, it is a critical time for us to come together to support Catholic Charities. With more than 150 locations

throughout Cook and Lake Counties, Catholic Charities’ services are intentionally located in the most troubled areas.

Through food and nutrition programs, early childhood education, alternatives for at-risk youth, trauma and grief counseling, job training, domestic violence programs, and substance abuse treatment, Catholic Charities’ services are a powerful antidote the culture of drugs, gangs and violence that takes root in

desperate areas.

Your donation to Catholic Charities will help the Church’s efforts to promote peace, restore human dignity, and bring hope to those living with brutal violence and poverty. Please contribute as generously as you are able

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo:

Este es un año especial para la Arquidiócesis de Chicago, ya que celebramos el Centenario de Caridades Católicas. El año del centenario de Caridades Católicas es realmente una celebración para todos nosotros

porque su gran tradición de asistencia caritativa ha incluido el apoyo de voluntarios y donantes de todas las parroquias de la arquidiócesis. Durante 100 años, a lo largo de cada era de guerra, paz, pobreza y

prosperidad, Caridades Católicas ha trabajado junto a los fieles para cumplir la misión del Evangelio de alimentar a los hambrientos, dar un hogar a los

sin techo, recibir a los forasteros, dar consuelo a los afligidos y brindar esperanza a los que la han perdido.

Bieżący rok jest szczególny dla Archidiecezji Chicago, gdyż obchodzimy w nim setną rocznicę działalności organizacji charytatywnej Catholic Charities. Stulecie Catholic Charities jest prawdziwie dla nas świętem, gdyż we wspaniałej tradycji działalności tej organizacji charytatywnej zawiera się wsparcie udzielane przez

Prayer for Healing Dear Lord of Mercy and Father of Comfort,

You are the One I turn to for help in moments of weakness and times of need. I ask you to be with your servant in this illness. Psalm 107:20 says that you send out your Word and heal. So

then, please send your healing Word to your servant. In the name of Jesus, drive out all infirmity and sickness from his body.

Dear Lord, I ask you to turn this weakness into strength, this su-ffering into compassion, sorrow into joy, and pain into comfort for others. May your servant trust in your goodness and hope in your

faithfulness, even in the middle of this suffering.

Let him be filled with patience and joy in your presence as he waits for your healing touch.

Please restore your servant to full health, dear Father. Remove all fear and doubt from his heart by the power of your Holy Spirit, and

may you, Lord, be glorified through his life.

As you heal and renew your servant, Lord, may he bless and praise you.

All of this, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ.

If you have usable clothing and household items that you are no longer using, we at the St. Vincent De Paul Society would be

grateful if you would bundle these items in storage/garbage bags and save them for our Bundle Weekend.

We will have a truck in our parking lot from The St. Vincent De Paul Society on Saturday, May 20th, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.,

on Sunday morning, May 21st from 9:00 to 2:30 p.m.Someone will be there during these hours to help you unload your donations from your car. Please do not bring items before or after

these hours, because no one will be present to take them from you.

Clothing of any size and type is welcome, as well as household items, dishes, pots, towels, linens etc. Please, no furniture or toys. This merchandise will be taken to the St. Vincent De Paul Resale

Center to be used to assist the people that we serve.

For now, we are just asking that you "SAVE THE DATE" and start saving items for us that you no longer need. Thank you in

Pray the Rosary The Morning Rosary Group of St. Turibius Parish is

extending an invitation to all parishioners to join us in the recitation of the rosary celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Apparition of Fatima in 1917. The rosary will be said on the 13th of May, June, July, August, September and

October of 2017 at 6:00 PM in church.

On August 19, 1917, Our Lady of the Rosary asked “I want you to continue praying the Rosary every day”.

The Morning Rosary Group has been saying the rosary in church for the past 43+ years after the weekday morning

Mass. Please join us as we continue to follow Our Lady of the Rosary’s request.

Our Annual Easter Food Distribution was held this year on Monday, April 10th, and it was a wonderful evening for everyone who attended, clients and Vincentians alike. We prayed together, we laughed together, and we shared the bounty of our food with

one another.

None of this would have been possible without all of you. St. Turibius Parishioners are truly the most thoughtful and

generous people on earth. Your constant response to our calls for help is overwhelming. Know in your hearts that you have made a

lot of people very happy this Easter.

Special thanks are always in order after a large food distribution. First, to our Building Engineer, Mr. Braulio Alvarado, who always

goes that extra mile to help make these evenings such a success. A lot of the work is done behind the scenes, such as the setup of

the hall, and Mr. Alvarado is the one who does it all.

Another special thank you is in order for all the help we receive from our Religions Education Students who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. In order to have a successful Food

Distribution, a great deal of the donated food must be carried from various parish buildings where it is stored to the hall for

distribution. The Confirmation Students are always around to lend a hand with the heavy lifting, and their joy in helping others is quite contagious. At the end of the evening, the students return to

help with all the clean up.

Once again, a great big "Thank You" to all for your generous spirit of giving. We are truly the "Family of St. Turibius". We take care

of each other, and we love what we do.

The Call of the Good Shepherd

The Twenty-third Psalm, today’s responsorial psalm, is arguably the best known of all the psalms. The line that reads “Even though I walk in the dark valley / I fear no

evil; for you are at my side / with your rod and your staff / that give me courage” (Psalm 23:4) connects this week’s scriptures to the wonderful story of the road to Emmaus, which we heard last week. The Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is constantly at our

side. He calls us each by name, beckoning us into a deeper relationship with him. That call, issued to each of us at the moment of our baptism, carries with it the promise of

the Good Shepherd: “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
