The preterite forms of SER and IR are identical. They are distinguished by context.

SER/IR

(yo) fui (nosotros/as) fuimos(tú) fuiste (vosotros/as) fuisteis(Ud., él/ella) fue (Uds., ellos/as) fueron

La fiesta fue divertida. The party was fun.Mi madre fue al cine. My mother went to the movies.

¿Estuviste en casa hoy? No hice nada.Were you at home today? I didn’t do anything.

The following verbs have a j in the stem and a slightly different ending for Uds., ellos/as.
