Beginners This course aims to provide students with the skills needed for everyday situations in a Spanish-speaking environment. Students can expect to learn how to introduce themselves and others, talk about their town and country, how to buy f ood, tell the time, describe people, talk about their daily routine, etc. The course book is Español en marcha 1, Francisca Castro Viúdez et alia, SGEL (Student’s book / Libro del alumno with 2 CDs). The accompanying CDs will be used as required, as well as a variety of work sheets. Basic elements of Spanish grammar will be introduced: gender and number endings, regular and irregular verbs in the present, imperative tense, introduction to the past tense, etc. Throughout the course the approach is communicative, using role plays, interviews, and other activities to encourage students’ participation. Cultural topics relating to Spain and Latin America will be introduced. Please note that weekly revision will be essential to take full advantage of the course. 3. Intermediate

This course aims to develop further the four language skills of speaking, listening, readingand writing with an emphasis on oral skills. Students are expected to have reached at least ahigher GCSE-level or equivalent before starting the course.

The course book is Español en marcha  3 , Francisca Castro Viúdez et alia, SGEL (Libro del alumno  with 1 CD). It is used together with a number of audio materials and relevanthandouts.

You will be using a wider range of vocabulary and more complex grammatical structures.There will be a revision of the different past tenses, and an introduction to the subjunctive. Atthe end of the course, students will be able to talk about the past, present and future, todescribe places and people in detail, understand and use vocabulary relating to health, talk

about their workplace, give instructions and express wishes. Students will be able to readsome real materials such as short news features and to write simple connected text such asshort letters.

The cultural component of the course covers both Spain and Latin America.

Weekly revision is essential to take full advantage of the course. To complement topicsintroduced in class, we recommend the use of other resources such as:

4. Higher Intermediate

This course is intended for students who have reached A/S Level or equivalent and acquireda good knowledge of basic Spanish grammar.

A continuation of the Intermediate level, the course aims to provide a background to thestudy of Spanish-speaking countries with an emphasis on communication through discussion

in class of current economic and political issues. Students will also be encouraged to extendtheir knowledge of grammar and improve their writing skills.

There is no recommended textbook for this course which will be based on materialsproduced by the teacher: news articles, audio resources, grammar handouts, etc.

NEW: Imperial College undergraduates may, if they wish, acquire 2 ECTS credits aftersuccessfully completing their Evening Class. To qualify, a student must attend the classesregularly and pass a test at the end of the second term. Students will be invited to apply inthe second term to take the test.
