Gizakiaren historiaren une batzuetan, musika-bandak gizartearen kohesiorako ardatz izan dira gatazka beliko edo/eta sozialen ondoren: Frantziako Iraultzako nekazarien bandak, Italiako bandak eta musika biltzarrak 1861eko Bateratzearen ostean, P.S. Gilmore-n American Concert Band AEBko Gerra Zibilaren ondoren, Kolonbiako bandak Gobernuak 2004 ezarritako Elkarbizitzarako Musika Planaren hezkuntzaren eta gizartearen bultzadaren ostean… Hain zuzen ere, banda hitza frantseseko bandetik dator eta batasuna esan nahi du. Izan ere, banda bat izan lekuan, kalean, parkeetan, entzungeletan edo antzokietan, beti sortu da pertsona desberdinak batzeko eta biltzeko nahia, haizearen eta perkusioaren soinuaren gozamen hedonista soilarekin.

En determinados momentos de la historia de la humanidad, las bandas de música han servido como ejes de cohesión social tras conflictos bélicos y/o sociales: las bandas de los campesinos en la Revolución Francesa, las bandas italianas y sus congresos musicales tras la Reunificación de 1861, la American Concert Band de P.S. Gilmore tras la Guerra de Secesión, las bandas colombianas tras el empuje educativo y social del Plan de Música para la Convivencia del país en 2004... De hecho, la propia palabra Banda proviene del francés Bande y significa unión. Y es que donde ha sonado una banda, bien en la calle, en parques, en auditorios o en teatros, siempre ha generado un anhelo de unir y de reunir a gente diversa con el único fin del goce hedonista del sonido del viento y de la percusión.

At certain moments in the history of humanity, music bands have served as axes for social cohesion after war and/or social conflicts: the peasant bands of the French Revolution, Italian bands and their musical congresses after the Reunification of 1861, the American Concert Band of PS Gilmore after the American Civil War, the Colombian bands after the educational and social initiative of the Music Plan for Coexistence by the government in 2004... In fact, the word “band” comes from the French “bande”, meaning union. And wherever a band is heard, whether on the street, in parks, in auditoriums or in theatres, it has always generated a desire to unite and bring diverse people together for the sole purpose of the hedonistic enjoyment of the sound of wind and percussion.

Italiatik dator HISTORIAURREA (2014) lana, gizakiaren historiako lau periodori buruzko kontakizun musikala, Italiako musikologian eta bandarako konposizioan garrantzi handia daukan musikari baten eskutik, Carlo Pirola maisua (1945). Izan ere, hogei urtetik gora Milango G. Verdi Kontserbatorioko Istrumentazione Bandística-ko katedraduna izan zen. Lana Villenako Udal Bandari (Alacant) dedikatuta dago. Frantziatik, banden musikaren bilakaeran herrialde esanguratsua denez gero, Serge Lancen konpositorearen musikara hurbilduko gara. Konposizioko Erroma saria irabazi zuen 1950ean, instrumentu bakarlari eta bandarako kontzertuen sortzaile modura. CONCERTO POUR HARPE (1990) ederra sortu zuen; Raphaëlle Hélénon emazteari dedikatu zion, instrumentu horretako irakaslea baitzen. Le Havre-ko Coups de Vent Haize Musikako Nazioarteko Jaialdiko lehen edizioan estreinatu zen. bandarako konposizioaren bilakaeraren partitura gakoetako batek. MUSIC FOR PRAGUE 1968 lana mugarria izan zen musika-banden kontzepzio artistikoan. Karel Husa Pragan jaio zen 1921ean eta Musikako Pulitzer saria jaso zuen 1069an. Lan honekin Estatu Batuetatik gogoratzen ditu Pragako Udaberrian bere hirian izandako gatazka sozialak, aro berriaren zerbitzura dagoen berrikuntza estetikoaren ikuspegi engaiatutik. “Musikaren bidez kontatzeko irrikak eragina izan du gaur egun La Pamplonesako zuzendaria eta Nafarroako Goi-mailako Kontserbatorioko irakaslea den J. Vicent Egea maisuarenren Numancia laneko pentagramak idazteko. Erromako Inperioak hiri zeltiberiar horretan egindako setioa hizkera eta estilo desberdinetako pasarteekin adieraziko da. Lan hori Egea maisuaren Numancia 1. Sinfoniaren laburpen bat da, Soriako Udalak setioaren 2150. urteurrenean egindako enkargua.

Estetikak batzen ditugu, banda ikuspegi ugari eta askeetatik ikus dezakeen era askotako publikoarekin partekatzeko asmoz.

Musika ikasten hasi zen bonbardinoarekin eta pianoarekin Muroko U. M.-ean eta Alcoi eta Valentzian jarraitu zuen. Zuzendaritza ikasi zuen Jan Cober, Eugene Corporon, Karl Österreicher, Hans Graf eta Yuji Yuhasa-rekin. Zuzendari gonbidatua izan da zenbait talde sinfonikotan Argentinan, Alemanian, Belgikan, Kolonbian, Kuban, Eslovenian, Espainian, Holandan, Ingalaterran, Italian, Portugalen, Errumanian, Suitzan eta Amerikako Estatu Batuetan. 2015etik Bilboko Udalaren Musika Bandako zuzendari titularra da, halaber, Filharmonia Haize-Orkestrako zuzendaria da eta Oportoko Banda Sinfoniko Portugaldarren zuzendari gonbidatu nagusia. “Vall d’Albaida”ko Joventuts Musicals bandako eta Trentoko (Italia) ISEBeko zuzendaritzako irakaslea. 2009tik Spilimbergo-ko (Italia) “G.A. Fano” Istituto Musicale-ko ikastaroetako zuzendari artistikoa da. Lehenengo saria irabazi zuen Kerkradeko WMCko (1997) eta Birminghameko EBBAko (Ingalaterra, 2000) Zuzendaritzako Nazioarteko Lehiaketetan.

BILBOKO UDALAREN MUSIKA BANDA

1895eko ekainaren 9an, José Sainz Basaberen zuzendaritzapean, Bilboko Udalaren Musika Bandak bere lehenengo kontzertua eman zuen Areatzan. Harrezkero J. Franco Ribate (1924), P. Córdoba (1928), J. Arambarri (1932), B. Muñoz (1950), U. Ruiz Laorden (1969), A. Ibarrondo (1979), J. Mª Bilbao (1995), R. Sanz-Espert (2002) eta José R. Pascual-Vilaplana (2015) izan dira Udal Bandaren zuzendari titularrak. BilbaoMusika Toki Erakunde Autonomiadunaren barruan dago. Aipatzekoak dira Areatzako kioskoan, Euskalduna Jauregiko Auditorioan, Azkuna Zentroan edo J. C. De Arriaga Kontserbatorioan eskaintzen dituen kontzertu zikloak. Ziklo horietan izen handiko zuzendari gonbidatuak izan ditu, hala nola: E. García Asensio, P. Sánchez Torrella, Juan José Ocón, Darío Sotelo, José Mª Sainz Alfaro, Gary F. Desde Italia nos llega PREHISTORIA (2014) un relato musical sobre cuatro períodos de la historia de la humanidad, de la mano de un músico de gran relevancia en la musicología y la composición italiana para banda, el maestro Carlo Pirola (1945) quien fuera durante más de veinte años Catedrático de Istrumentazione Bandística del Conservatorio G. Verdi de Milán. La obra está dedicada a la Banda Municipal de Villena (Alicante). Desde Francia, un país de referencia en la evolución de la música bandística, nos acercamos a la música de Serge Lancen (1922-2005), ganador del Premio Roma de composición en 1950, en su faceta de creador de diferentes conciertos para instrumento solista y banda. Su bello CONCERTO POUR HARPE (1990) dedicado a su esposa Raphaëlle Hélénon, profesora de dicho instrumento. Se estrenaba el concierto con ocasión de la primera edición del Festival Internacional de Música de Viento Coups de Vent en la ciudad francesa de Le Havre. En nuestra versión ofrecida en Bilbao, tuvimos el inmenso placer de acompañar a uno de los arpistas españoles más importantes del momento, el murciano José A. Domené (www.joseantoniodomene.com) .Se cumplen cincuenta años de una de las

partituras clave de la evolución de la composición para banda del siglo XX. MUSIC FOR PRAGUE 1968 marca un antes y un después en la concepción artística de las bandas de música. Karel Husa, nacido en Praga en 1921 fue Premio Pulitzer de Música en 1969 y con esta obra evoca, desde los Estados Unidos, los conflictos sociales de su ciudad en la conocida como Primavera de Praga, bajo el prisma comprometido de la renovación estética al servicio de la nueva era. Ese anhelo de narrar mediante la música influye en la idea del maestro J. Vicent Egea, actual director de La Pamplonesa y profesor del Conservatorio Superior de Navarra, a la hora de escribir los pentagramas de Numancia. El asedio de la ciudad celtíbera por parte del Imperio Romano se representará bajo el prisma sonoro de distintos pasajes contrastantes en lenguaje y en estilo. Esta obra es una síntesis de la Sinfonía nº1 Numancia del maestro Egea, encargo del Ayuntamiento de Soria en el 2150 Aniversario del asedio de la ciudad numantina.

Unimos estéticas con el deseo de compartirlas con el público más variado que pueda ver la banda con perspectivas diversas y libres.

Inicia sus estudios musicales en la U.M. de Muro con el bombardino y piano, para continuarlos en los Conservatorios de Alcoi y Valencia. Alumno de dirección de Jan Cober, Eugene Corporon, Karl Österreicher, Hans Graf y Yuji Yuhasa. Ha sido director invitado en distintas formaciones sinfónicas en Argentina, Alemania, Bélgica, Colombia, Cuba, Eslovenia, España, Holanda, Inglaterra, Italia, Portugal, Rumanía, Suiza y USA. Es director titular de la Banda Municipal de Bilbao desde 2015, además de director de la O.V. “Filharmonia” y principal director invitado de la Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa de Oporto. Es profesor de Dirección de Banda en la ECM “Vall d’Albaida” y profesor invitado del ISEB (Italia). Desde 2009 es Director Artístico de los cursos del Istituto Musicale G.A. Fano de Spilimbergo (Italia). Es ganador del Primer Premio de los concursos Internacionales de dirección de WMC Kerkrade (1997) y de la EBBA en Birmingham (UK, 2000).

El 9 de junio de 1895 bajo la dirección de José Sainz Basabe, la Banda Municipal de Música de Bilbao ofrecía en el Arenal su primer concierto. Desde entonces, J. Franco Ribate (1924), P. Córdoba (1928), J. Arambarri (1933), B. Muñoz (1953), U. Ruiz Laorden (1969), A. Ibarrondo (1979), J. Mª Bilbao (1995), R. Sanz-Espert (2002) y José R. Pascual-Vilaplana (2015) han sido los Directores Titulares. Integrada en el Organismo Autónomo Local BilbaoMusika, son tradicionales sus ciclos de conciertos en el Quiosco del Arenal, en el Auditorio del Palacio Euskalduna, en Azkuna Zentroa o en el auditorio del Conservatorio J.C. de Arriaga. From Italy comes PREHISTORIA (2014), a musical story about four periods of the history of humanity, by the hand of a musician of great relevance in musicology and Italian composition for bands, the maestro Carlo Pirola (1945), who, for over twenty years, was Professor of Istrumentazione Bandística at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan. The work is dedicated to the Villena Municipal Band (Alicante). From France, a country of reference in the evolution of band music, comes the music of Serge Lancen (1922-2005), winner of the Roma Composition Prize in 1950, in his role as creator of different concertos for soloists and bands. His beautiful CONCERTO POUR HARPE (1990), is dedicated to his wife, Raphaëlle Hélénon, professor of that instrument. The concert premiered on the occasion of the first edition of the Coups de Vent International Wind Music Festival, in the French city of Le Havre. In our version in Bilbao, we had the immense pleasure of accompanying one of the most important Spanish harpists of the time, the Murcian José A. Domené ( w w w. j o s e a n t o n i o d o m e n e . c o m ) . It is the fiftieth anniversary of one of the key scores of the evolution of composition for

bands of the twentieth century. MUSIC FOR PRAGUE 1968 marks a before and after in artistic conception for bands. Karel Husa, born in Prague in 1921, won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1969, and with this work he evokes, from the United States, the social conflicts of his city, in what is known as the Prague Spring, through the committed prism of the aesthetic renovation of the new era. This desire to narrate through music influences the idea of the maestro J. Vicent Egea, current director of La Pamplonesa, and professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Navarra, when writing the pentagrams of Numancia. The siege of the Celtiberian city by the Roman Empire is represented through the sound prism of different contrasting passages in language and style. This work is a synthesis of the Symphony nº1 Numancia of the maestro Egea, commissioned by the Soria Town Council for the 2150th Anniversary of the siege of the Numantian city.

We are combining aesthetics with the desire to share them with the most varied possible audience who can enjoy the band with diverse and free perspectives.

He started the musical studies in the Muro’s U.M. with the euphonium and piano. Later on he studied in the Conservatories of Alcoi (Alicante) and Valencia. He kept on studying Conducting with Jan Cober, Eugene Corporon, Karl Österreicher, Hans Graf and Yuji Yuhasa. Performed as Guest Conductor with several symphonic orchestras of Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Colombia, Cuba, Slovenia, Spain, Holland, England, Italy, Portugal, Rumania, Szwiterland and USA. At present Pascual-Vilaplana is the principal conductor of Banda Municipal de Bilbao and O.V. “FILHARMONIA” and principal guest conductor with Banda Sinfonica Portuguesa from Porto. He is teacher in Conducting of Wind Bands in Escola Comarcal de Música de la Vall d’Albaida (Valencia) and guest teacher in conducting in ISEB (Italy). He is also artistic director in the summer courses of the Istituto Musicale G.A. Fano of Spilimbergo (Italy). In 1997 won the First Prize of the WMC Kerkrade and in 2000 won the First Prize of the EBBA in Birmingham (UK).

On the 9th of June, 1895, Bilbao Wind Orchestra executed its first public performance in the Arenal Bandstand, conducted by José Sáinz Basabe. Since then, J. Franco Ribate (1924), P. Córdoba (1928), J. Arambarri (1932), B. Muñoz (1950), U. Ruiz Laorden (1969), A. Ibarrondo (1979), J. Mª Bilbao (1995), R. Sanz-Espert (2002) and José R. Pascual-Vilaplana (2015) have been conductors of this Wind Orchestra. Performances of this band which is integrated into BilbaoMusika (a local autonomous organization) are already a tradition in official ceremonies and popular festivities, as well as its seasons of performances, in venues like the Arenal Bandstand, Euskalduna Conference Centre, Azkuna Zentroa and the Conservatory “J. C. de Arriaga”. The command of guest conductors as renowned as E. García Asensio, P. Sánchez Torrella, Juan José Ocón, Darío Sotelo, José Mª Sáinz Alfaro, Gary F. Lamb, Ruper Lekue, Richard Miles, Thomas Rotondi, Hilario Extremiana, Evgeny Dzhalalov, Pablo dell’Oca, Fernando Bonete, Douglas Bostock, Jan Cober, Franco Cesarini, Timothy Reynish and Philip Sparke; similarly, it has taken on stage soloists of the artistic size of Pedro Iturralde, Kepa Junkera, Astrid Crone, Manuel Bobenrieth, Javier Eguillor, Albert Guinovart, Manel Ramada, Claudi Arimany, Santiago Juan, Mª Eugenia Silguero, Juana Guillem, The Euskadi Brass Quintet, Orfeón Donostiarra, Spanish Brass Luur Metalls, Ximo Vicedo, Sole Giménez, Urko and Oskorri band, among others.
