A French Lesson
Marg. - Oh, Tom! This magazine is real ly interesting! And the
pictures are so art ist ic!
Tom - What kind of pictures are they? Of cars? Of f i lm stars?
Marg. - No, dear. This is a fashion magazine. There are only
pictures of beauti fu l fashions. I love French fashions!
Tom - Is i t a French magazine?
Marg. - Of course, dear. I buy only French fashion magazines.
Tom - But can you read French easi ly?
Marg. - Of course I can. I could read and speak French f luently
when I was only f i f teen. When I was at school , I was
always the f i rst of the class in French.
Tom - I t is strange, but people always forget foreign languages
when they leave school . I had no problems, of course,
because I was always the last of the class in French. So, I
had nothing to forget. I could never remember the verbs. And I had a terr ib le pronunciat ion. I th ink that French is a
very di f f icul t language.
Marg. - Poor darl ing. I th ink that French isn’ t d i f f icul t at al l . I have
an idea! You can read a l i t t le French now - and I can
correct your pronunciat ion mistakes.
Tom - No, dear. I t ’s useless. I t ’s too late.
Marg. - No, i t isn’ t . Remember! The proverb says: “ I t ’s never too
late.”
Tom - But i t ’s fool ish to work too much on a hol iday.
Marg. - Oh, that is r id iculous, dear! You do nothing from morning
to night. The only things that interest you are: eating,
dr inking, l istening to the jukebox, smoking and sleeping.
And as you know, that is very bad for your heal th, dear.

Marg. - Here you are, darl ing! …
Well … Begin!
Tom - This chair is very uncomfortable.
Marg. - Then take the other chair . And here is a cushion, dear. Put

Tom - Uh-huh
Marg. - Then now we can begin.
Tom - Well … er … I …
Marg. - Another cushion behind your back?
Tom - No. One cushion is enough.

Tom - Well , i f I must work, I must have a good beer in front of
me.
Marg. - Oh Tom! Tom! Tom!
Tom - Ha ha ha ha!
