Tendremos una eternidad para descansar. "Cualquier persona” -ha dicho Joaquín Navarro Valls, portavoz oficial de la Santa Sede hablando de Juan Pablo II- con mucha menos responsabilidad que la que él soporta, tiene su sistema de descanso, su fin de semana intocable, su deporte, cosas, todas ellas que probablemente son necesarias. En el caso del Papa, nada de eso existe. Su único descanso es la posibilidad de caminar por una terraza que hay encima de su apartamento. En diez años de pontifi-cado, en total serán cuatro las veces que ha podido salir un día a la montaña. Cuando alguna vez le han dicho: "Santo Padre, está cansado ... ", la res-puesta que ha dado en tono humorístico ha sido: "Tendremos una eternidad para descansar".

Como ha dicho, también con humor, André Fros-sard, "hasta ahora, el único medio que se ha descu-bierto para obligarle a dejar el trabajo es la aneste-sia total".

Y decía en Uruguay: Jesucristo, nuestro Señor, es también nuestro guía y modelo.

"Todo lo hizo bien" decían de Él las gentes. Cada uno de nosotros -asumida por la fe nuestra condi-ción de hijos de Dios en Cristo- hemos de esforzar-nos por seguir sus huellas en el trabajo de cada día. Como leemos en el Antiguo Testamento, no se le deben hacer a Dios ofrendas defectuosas. Los cris-tianos serán verdaderamente "sal de la tierra" y "luz del mundo", si saben dar a su trabajo la cali-dad humana de una obra bien hecha, con amor de Dios y con espíritu de servicio al prójimo".

Señor, quiero trabajar en serio. Y cuando esté can-sado, también. A partir de ahora, cuando empiece a trabajar te lo ofreceré, te lo regalaré. Por eso inten-taré que no sea defectuoso, sino algo bien hecho. Y ya, sólo porque es mi regalo para Ti, mi trabajo es importante. Este es mi propósito en cuaresma: tra-bajar bien para Ti. Y cansarme trabajando.
