SALIDASPROFESIONALES
- Enseanza Secundaria 3,14%.
- Enseanza Superior e Investigacin 15,38%.
This degree is clearly tied to the development of our current society, which has resulted in a high demand for professionals, as indicated by the low rate of unemployment in the field. According to the Illustrious Official College of Geologists (IGOG) the unemployment rate within this group of professionals is approximately 2%.
Distribution data from the ICOG for graduates according to their profession and specialization are as follows:
- Business (including self-employed and free lancers) 73.75%, (including basic geology 7.31%, mineral and energy resources 9.52%, environmental geology 4.76%, hydrogeology 3.06% and engineering geology 34.83%).
- Administration (state, regional, and local) 7.73%.
- Secondary Education 3.14%.
- Higher Education and Research 15.38%.

EL FUTURO DELOS GRADUADOS EN GEOLOGA
THE FUTURE FORGEOLOGY GRADUATES
Nowadays, most geology applications affect the health, safety and well-being of the population, the environment, the economy and the viability of engineering projects. The functions and capabilities of the geologist are many and varied. Geologists are experts in discovering the raw materials that sustain modern life hydrogeologists and environmental geologists focus on finding and evaluating cases involving water resources, locating safe places for storing hazardous materials, and preventing and minimizing the impact of floods and other geological hazards Because of their training, geologists can analyze current environmental problems in the light of the historical development of past global environments. As such, they are the best trained specialists for predicting the environmental processes and impact that humanity may cause in the present and future.

The current Curriculum is based on the general directives of the official university graduate degree Geology established by Royal Decree 1415/1990 from 26 October (BOE, 27.12.1993). These directives structure the study program in two cycles lasting a total of five years. In total, this represents approximately 315 credits.
Nevertheless, a new curriculum for degree studies in Geology is being drawn up that will, in accordance with the new guidelines adopted as part of the European Space for Higher Education, proposes a four year degree program with a total of 240 ECTS credits.
SO, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? It means that we are living through changing times in Spanish universities especially if you begin your undergraduate studies in Geology in 2009, because you will be able to change over to the new degree in Geology when it becomes effective in 2010.
