Welcome, Neighbors!Welcome Steve and Kym Spaeth! They are supervisors at National Grid and have four children. They came to Bayberry from the Solvay area. We are happy to have you join our neighborhood.

House BOO-tiful!In the interest of fun and community spirit, our president, Tim Scott, and some other BCAers are organizing a Halloween Decorating Contest! Entry is $5 and winner takes all! Homes will be judged the evening of Halloween by a panel of scary clowns. Just kidding! They’ll dress the part in a family friendly way. To register, please go to http://tinyurl.com/bayberryboo. If you would like to purchase one for your own yard, you can! Simply visit the web-site www.drivelikeyourkidslivehere.com. There you’ll find an online store with dif-ferent options you can choose from.

Route 57 paving projectBayberry historian June Baycura attended the Sept. 27 meeting with Onondaga Trans-portation reps regarding the Route 57 paving project, which has a tentative schedule of May 2019 to October 2019. Her report is as follows:

• The paving will start north of the Blackberry entrance. There should be no effect on our front entrance walls or median.

• Some cross pipes will be replaced somewhere. The pipe under the road from Friendship Woods to the Bayberry Nature Preserve will not be replaced at this time.

• The traffic lights at Wetzel and Blackberry will be replaced. I opened the dis-cussion on the Blackberry light by mentioning the difficulty with crossing. Oth-ers mentioned the difficulty at times with safe left turns out of Blackberry. An-other talked about the high school runners trying to get across the road. Pastor Mark Lawson said it would be better if there was a solid red in all directions for a few seconds (something the BCA has asked for many times over the years). There were enough comments on this to make an impression.

• There will be no changes in the lane stripping.

• Night work is not anticipated.

• There will be no accommodations for bicycles (one of the gentlemen men-tioned that bike lanes are not recommended on this type of highway). Howev-er, there will be some work to improve shoulders.

For Halloween, you should go as the person you claim to be on Facebook.”

Christmas Tree Lighting

The BCA and Tri-R Management are working together to organize a Christmas Tree Lighting to kick-off the holiday season this year.

Details are still in progress but the event is set to take place on Sunday, Dec. 3 in the early eve-ning.

There will be musical entertain-ment by Power of Two, com-prised of Bayberry couple Gwen and Patrick McCarroll, an acous-tic duo, as well as volunteers from Moyers Corners Fire Department Station 2 taking Santa for a tour of the neighborhood! There will also be a fire truck at the event for kids to hop in and check out.Other activities in the works in-clude obtaining food vendors, a choir, a live nativity and more.

If anyone is interested in helping out or has ideas that may en-hance the evening, email Tami Scott at [email protected]. Thank you and we hope you save the date!

Share your fall photos! Do you enjoy the colors of au-tumn? The cool breezes that sway the trees and tossle your hair to and fro? Do you enjoy capturing the beauty of each season on camera? If yes, send in your favorite fall photos to be featured on our website, bayber-rycommunity.org.

Just email a jpg with a brief de-scription of where and when it was taken as well as names of people in the photo (if any) to [email protected].

Calling all cooks!Thanksgiving is approaching fast and we’d like to gather as many great recipes as we can to share with residents for the big gobble day! Do you have a family favorite you’d like to pass on to your neigh-bors? Appetizers, sides or desserts?

If so, please send them our way and we’ll be sure to feature at least one in next month’s newsletter as well as on our website. Please email us at the following [email protected] by Friday, Nov. 10 for possible selection in the newsletter.

Opportunities to help outVolunteers are needed to distribute monthly newsletters to the following areas: Area L (41 homes) on Meadow River and River Park drives. Other open volunteer positions include treasurer, volunteer coordinator, area rep coordinator, community safety, infra-structure committee members, tree lighting committee members and home improve-ment fair committee members. Interested? Email [email protected].

Tips to help winterize your homeThe following is a checklist by Homeadvisor.com to help you as you prepare your home for the winter months.

Be prepared• Buy a snow shovel now so you’ll have it before winter

weather hits.• Keep extra water and canned food in storage just in

case of a heavy snowstorm.

Gutters & downspouts• Clean gutters and downspouts in mid-fall and dou-

ble-check them before winter.• Install leaf guards to keep falling leaves and other de-

bris out of cleared gutters.

Doors & windows• Examine doors and windows for gaps where warm air

can escape. • Caulk or apply weatherstripping around problem draft

areas.

• Install double-paned windows to increase energy ef-ficiency.

Heating system• Replace the filter in your furnace.• Give your heating system a test run so you know it will

work properly when you need it.• Hire a heating/cooling expert to check your furnace’s

efficiency.

Roofing, chimneys & decks• Have a contractor look for damaged roof shingles and

loose gutters.• Make sure chimneys and woodstoves are cleaned

early in the season.• Give your deck a fresh coat of sealer to protect it from

the winter elements.
