Academy of Fine Arts (Academia de Dibujo y Pintura)in Manila

Influenced and taught how to draw by the Spanish

artist Agustin Saez– vigorous brush strokes displeased his teacher and

Luna was discharged from the Academy

Took drawing lessons under the illustrious paintingteacher Lorenzo Guerrero of Ermita, Manila.

Guerrero was impressed by his skill and urged Lunato travel to Spain to further pursue his studies

He travelled to Europe with Manuel Luna

Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando

Befriended the painter Don Alejo Vera

Obtained an award for outstanding color, compositionand antique studies but did not stay long and decidedto be an apprentice of Alejo Vera

Three Major Elements:  Dogs: employed by the ancient Romans for hunting

activities, guardians of the home and theirproperty, and as pets

Doves: animals that connote eroticism

Women: there was a suggestion that the woman onthe right with dark hair could be Maria de la PazPardo de Tavera

traveled back to Spain to enter in that year's

Exposition two of his pieces, the ”La Batalla deLepanto” and ”Rendición de Granada” (Surrender ofGranada), which both won in the exhibition
