use of the language to convey simple meaning. Pronunciation
Listening Speaking
3. Seating arrangement: students will be sitting on the floor
in a semicircle facing the board while they listen to the short
story. Then theyll be standing all around the classroom.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: in this lesson, the use
of ICT is included at very beginning. Students will watch a video
song. Possible problems / difficulties and their possible solutions
during the class: students may not want to share the cookies, but
Ill remind them that today we have read a story in which the friend
share the cookies, and Ill show them the page at which each child
has one. Also I must monitor and enhance students cooperation with
others. Potential problems students may have with the language:
students may not immediately remember the word grandma. However Ill
name it as much as I can, as well as I ask students to repeat it.
Classroommanagement strategies: a corner for the community circle
and tables and chairs in the other side. I will use cushions or
chairs during the community circle because these resources help
students to stay in their places. Then we will stand up and move to
the bigger side of the classroomso students can freely move around.
If they misbehave I will sing the we make silence song or 1, 2, 3,
silence/sit down please! or stop the song so they notice that there
is something wrong. Assessment: what will be assessed and how: Ill
check students comprehend the story by performing diverse tasks
such as manipulating paper cookies, making division discoveries and
role playing. Lesson stages: ROUTINE: (2) - Ill greet students
Hello! How are you? Are you happy? while I smile making a happy
face. Ss will answer Hello! Yes! Happy! or they will be silent
since they are shy at the very first time. Now Ill ask students to
sit down in a circle on the floor or in a chair, so that everyone
can see and greet each other. Ill say Lets make a circle! Just sit
down, very good! Then we will sing the welcome song, Lets sing the
hello song altogether. Hello song: HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO! TO
YOU AND YOU AND YOU! HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO! TO YOU AND YOU AND

touch your head, you have to sit down! Is it okay?, Ss will respond
yes! Ill check students comprehension by starting singing slowly
and showing students what do they have to do. Ill encourage
students to join in and sing along by saying Come on! Lets sing all
together!. The main purpose here is to review numbers from 1 to 10,
since students need the vocabulary for the following stage.
PRESENTATION: (around 8) - Students are still sitting in a circle
on the floor. Now Ill move the computer away and Ill stick one
picture on the board:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdGXGl19Tzk Ill say Its a doorbell!
She rings the doorbell! (sound) Its a doorbell! What is it? and Ss
repeat Its a doorbell after listening to the sound. The main
purpose of showing the pictures above is to introduce the topic and
to further expose learners to the target language, to foster
comprehension of a story. So now Ill draw students attention to the
book The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins. Ill show them the first
pages and Ill explain now we are going to read this story
8. And Ill say Look! What is it here on the tray? (by pointing
to the cookies), Ss will answer cookies, and Ill repeat Yes great!
Some cookies! Mmm, yummy! And look, she is Victoria and he is Sam.,
while pointing to each and then sticking two children on the board:
Finally Ill say And here is their mum, she cooked some cookies!
Yummy!! while pointing to her and taking from a bag a tray with 12
fake cookies: Ill say Ok, lets start reading! and Ill put the tray
to a side and take the book. So, Ill read and guide students
through the book. Story: The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins Ive made
some cookies for tea, said Ma. Good, said Victoria and Sam. Were
starving. Share them between yourselves, said Ma, Ive made plenty.
Thats six each, said Sam and Victoria. They look as good as
Grandmas. And they smell as good as Grandmas No one makes cookies
like Grandma, said Ma as the doorbell rang. It was Tom and Hannah
from next door. Come in, said Ma. You can share the cookies.
9. Thats three each, said Sam and Victoria. They smell as good
as your Grandmas said Tom. and look as good, said Hannah. No one
makes cookies like Grandma, said Ma as the doorbell rang. It was
Peter and his little brother. Come in, said Ma. You can share the
cookies. Thats two each, said Victoria and Sam. They look as good
as your Grandmas, and smell as good said Peter. Nobody makes
cookies like Grandma, said Ma as the doorbell rang. It was Joy and
Simon with their four cousins. Come in, said Ma. You can share the
cookies. Thats one each, said Sam and Victoria. They smell as good
as your Grandmas said Joy. And look as good said Simon. No one
makes cookies like Grandma, said Ma as the doorbell rang. And rang.
Oh dear, said Ma as the children stared at the cookies on their
plates. Perhaps youd better eat them before we open the door. Well
wait, said Sam. It was Grandma with an enormous tray of cookies.
how nice to have so many friends to share them with said Grandma.
Its a good thing I made a lot! And no one makes cookies like
Grandma, said Ma as the doorbell rang Ill follow the reading by
sticking the faces and paper cookies mini flashcards on the
board:
10. As in the pictures, Ill equally share the cookies with
characters. Each time someone arrives to Victoria and Sams Ill
divide again the cookies. Transition: Ill say Ok, did you like it?,
students will reply Yes! and Ill ask them Great! Would you like to
help me sharing the cookies with the characters? DEVELOPMENT: -
Activity 1: (around 5) While I am re- reading the story to the
students, Ill encourage them to work with the faces and the paper
cookies mini flashcards. Students will have to divide the cookies
among the children. After each group arrives Ill tell them Now you
can share the cookies like this and Ill show them how I equally
share the cookies with Victoria and Sam. Ill explain we have to
divide the cookies equally among the children. Then Ill let some
children do it by themselves, in pairs, with the other
arrivals.
11. - Activity 2 : (around 8) Role-playing: Now Ill show
students a bag with the props students will use for the role play.
Ill put it in the middle of the circle and Ill say Do you want to
see what is it here?, Ss will reply yes! so Ill let students take a
look and take out those things. There are some aprons and paper
plates to each student, a chal and a wig. Also, we will use the
cookie tray with 8 paper cookies (students are 9, but 1 will be the
grandma, and Ill be the mum) Dialogue (Ill change the dialogues
from the book, and make them easier to adapt it to students level.
Also, Ill use students names): 1 to 8: students names 1: Yummy! Im
hungry 2: Me too! Mum: Ive made some cookies. Share them. 1: eight
cookies. 2: four cookies each. Both: Yummy! (The doorbell rings)
Mum: Hello! Come in! 3 & 4: Hello! Yummy! Mum: Share the
cookies. 1, 2, 3 & 4: two cookies each! (Doorbell rings)
12. Mum: hello! Come in! 5, 6, 7 & 8: hello! Yummy! Mum:
share the cookies. All children: one cookie each! (Doorbell rings)
Children: oh oh! Grandma: Hello! Some cookies for you! Children:
thank you grandma!! Each time the doorbell rings, more students
come up. Each time students need to divide the cookies among
themselves. The purpose of the activities above is to foster
contextualised practice of the teaching points, as well as work
upon the value of sharing a limited amount of resources, and also
to increase listening comprehension and the use of critical
thinking skills, since students need to divide the cookies equally.
Transition: Ill congratulate students for their fantastic job. Ill
say Excellent children! Youve worked lovely! Did you like it?, Ss
will reply Yes/No CLOSURE: (around 2) Finally Ill invite students
to put the props inside the bag again and sit down in a circle, on
the floor or in a chair. If we have time we will sing the Ten
little Indians song again. If not, Ill tell students that we have
no more time and we will sing the Good Bye song. Okay now is time
to say good bye: GOOD BYE, GOOD BYE SEE YOU AGAIN! GOOD BYE GOOD
BYE SEE YOU MY FRIENDS! GOOD BYE GOOD BYE I HAVE FUN TODAY, I HAVE
FUN TODAY! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xcws7UWWDEs (shorter
version) The song includes body language.
