FROM THE PRIESTFROM THE PRIEST

To be united to God. That’s the ultimate end for all of us – for us to enter as God’s sons and daughters into the perfect unity of the Trinity. This weekend we celebrate Trinity Sunday where we celebrate the great mystery of our faith – the triune nature of one God in three persons and the union of Father, Son and Holy Spirit!Jesus’ mission is to reveal the glory of God to all of us (a Trinity of persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and to unite us with God in a community of unity that is unbreakable and love that is everlasting! And the mission of the Holy Spirit is the same as Jesus’ mission – to reveal the glory of the Father and the Son!We share that relationship of Father, Son and Holy Spirit in our Baptism and continue to do so after death in eternity! And we can have a personal relationship with the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit who gives us the gift of faith to know and understand God’s Word! When Jesus ascended into Heaven, He was with His disciples in a new way through the power of the Holy Spirit! Our mission is to proclaim the love of God our Father, who redeemed all of us through His Son, Jesus Christ, and unites us with His Holy Spirit! We are called to share God’s love to all who will accept it and will hear the Good News of the Gospel!May we always share God’s love, recognize we are witnesses of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection, and be heralds of the good news of salvation through the Holy Spirit!• Pray for Pope Francis, and all who lead the Church, especially

Bishop Brennan• Pray for those affected by natural disasters and acts of violence

(COVID-19; Myanmar; volcano in the Congo; Israel-Palestine; Italy cable car accident)

• We will have Mass, Monday, May 31st for the Memorial of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 8:30 a.m. at St. Mary

• Due to COVID precautions, the usual Corpus Christi breakfast celebration is cancelled; we will have a procession inside the Church after the 9:00 a.m. Mass

• The Bishop’s Annual Appeal is ongoing; please support the diocese in their initiatives over 23 counties; also, any amount over our goal is returned to the parish tax free!

• A word of congratulations to all graduates (high school/college) from our parishes! You have worked so hard toward your goal, and you have made many people very proud of you today. We pray that the Lord will continue to lead you and reveal His wisdom to you for every decision you make!

• A blessed Memorial Day weekend to all of you! It is important that we practice gratitude toward God, most of all, toward our parents and, in a special way, toward those who have given up their lives to provide for the freedom we enjoy in our country. Let us not only remember those who have died to protect us, but also pray for them to have eternal rest and thank God for their sacrifices.

• Congratulations to Dayana Guadalupe Medina and Olivia Jane Taylor who were baptized this weekend. May they each be blessed as members of our faith.

• Congratulations to Joshua Colley and Danielle Scott who were married here on Saturday. May their marriage be ever blessed by God’s peace and love.

– Fr. Vince

DEL SACERDOTEDEL SACERDOTE

Estar unidos a Dios.

LIVE THE MYSTERYReflection on Matthew 28:16-20

In seminary, and in study ever since, I have been at times riveted with fascination, and at other times bored to tears, while reading various treatises and descriptions of the Most Holy Trinity. But the Trinity is not just an abstract dogma, and no one explanation or treatise can fully contain the mystery.

All of creation bears the imprint of its Creator, especially human beings, for we are made “in the image and likeness of God.” We are created in the likeness of the Trinity. When we gaze deeply into our humanity and the human community, we see beauty, variety, movement, connectedness. These are dimensions, aspects, workings (though all these words are inadequate!) of our Triune God. There is a foundational relationship of love at work here in God and in us!

Beyond trying to understand the Trinity, we focus on today’s feast unquestionably as a celebration of mission. We are sent out to invite, welcome, include and embrace everyone into the spaciousness of God. We will never in this life fully comprehend the mystery of the Trinity, but we can live the mystery. We are a part of the Trinity whenever people can look at us and say: “See those Christians and how they love one another!”

THE VISITATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARYFeast Day: May 31

This is a fairly late feast, going back only to the 13th or 14th century. It was established widely throughout the Church to pray for unity. The present date of celebration was set in 1969, in order to follow the Annunciation of the Lord and precede the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist.

Like most feasts of Mary, it is closely connected with Jesus and His saving work. The more visible actors in the visitation drama (see Luke 1:39-45) are Mary and Elizabeth. However, Jesus and John the Baptist steal the scene in a hidden way. Jesus makes John leap with joy – the joy of messianic salvation. Elizabeth, in turn, is filled with the Holy Spirit and addresses words of praise to Mary – words that echo down through the ages.

It is helpful to recall that we do not have a journalist’s account of this meeting. Rather Luke, speaking for the Church, gives a prayerful poet’s rendition of the scene. Elizabeth’s praise of Mary as “the mother of my Lord” can be viewed as the earliest Church’s devotion to Mary. As with all authentic devotion to Mary, Elizabeth’s (the Church’s) words first praise God for what God has done to Mary. Only secondly does she praise Mary for trusting God’s words.

Then comes the Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55). Here, Mary herself – like the Church – traces all her greatness to God.

One of the invocations in Mary’s litany is “Ark of the Covenant.” Like the Ark of the Covenant of old, Mary brings God’s presence into the lives of other people. As David danced before the Ark, John the Baptist leaps for joy. As the Ark helped to unite the 12 tribes of Israel by being placed in David’s capital, so Mary has the power to unite all Christians in her son. At times, devotion to Mary may have occasioned some divisiveness, but we can hope that authentic devotion will lead all to Christ and therefore, to one another.

TRINITY SUNDAY, MAY 30, 2021REAL PRESENCE, REAL FUTURE REFLECTIONS:

THE GREAT COMMISSION IS FOR USLori Dulin, Office of Catholic Schools

The Great Commission, Jesus’ command to “make disciples of all nations,” implores the apostles and each of us to be truly formed missionary disciples who reveal Him to others through the work of our Church. Pope Francis states, “Evangelizing presupposes a desire in the church to come out of herself and go to the peripheries.” This means travelling beyond our pews to bring the Gospel message and the knowledge of Jesus everyone everywhere. His continued command of “baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” blesses us to go forth and witness to His Real Presence in our midst! For more about growing together in the life of faith and discipleship in the Diocese of Columbus, visit www.RealPresenceRealFuture. org.
