Resumen

En la maana del 22 de junio de 1932 una serie de olas deentre 8 y 10 metros penetraron hasta 1 km tierra adentrodestruyendo la poblacin de Cuyutln, en el estado deColima (Mxico); hasta nuestros das ste es uno de lostsunamis ms intensos que han azotado las costas deloccidente del pas. Tsunamis en Jalisco

tsunami hasta hoy subestimado, y descrito tan slo comouna gran ola que alcanz la parte alta del mdano en Barrade Navidad, y que fue observado en las costas deManzanillo y Cuyutln (Colima) en donde ocasionaraalgunos daos; su manifestacin tanto en Barra de Navidadcomo en San Blas, supuso que tambin se present en elresto de la costa de Jalisco. La lnea de costa intermediaentre estos dos ltimos comprende un litoral de casi 550km de longitud que no recibi mencin alguna. Este territoriohistricamente ha sido escasamente poblado y de difcilacceso, sufri el embate de un tsunami y sus llamadostardaron en ser escuchados, y cuando se hicieron pblicoshubo confusin con los daos generados por el tsunamidel da 22 de junio en Cuyutln, Colima.

Abstract

On the morning of 22, June 1932, a series of eight and tenmeter waves of water penetrated up to a kilometer inlanddestroying the settlement of Cuyutln, in the Mexican stateof Colima. good portion of the states of Jalisco, Colima and Nayarit.This quake also generated a tsunami that to this day is under-estimated and described only as a great wave thatdestroyed the high part of the dunes in Barra de Navidad,and that was observed on the coasts of Manzanillo andCuyutln (Colima) where it caused damage. It must alsohave affected San Blas (Nayarit) since it affected all the coastof Jalisco. The coastline between these two places extendsfor some 500 kilometers of which no mention was noted.Historically this area that has had sparse population and isdifficult to access, suffered the strike of the tsunami late,and calls for help were late in being heard; when they weremade public in part they were confused with the damagecaused by the tsunami of 22 June in Cuyutln, Colima.
