THE GREATEST AMONG US Whom do you admire? Is it the President of the United States or a movie star or a billionaire? These are people whom the world exalts as great. Like the Pharisees in today’s Gospel, they have places of honor wherever they go. Would you like to follow in their footsteps? The scriptures for today offer different examples for us to follow. Jesus tells us that the greatest among us are the servants. These are the people we are to honor and imitate. We are called to be like Paul, who worked hard to serve the needs of his communities, and Jesus, who gave his life in service to the world.

EL MÁS GRANDE ENTRE NOSOTROS ¿A quién admiras? ¿Al presidente de Estados Unidos, a una celebridad del cine o a un excéntrico millonario? Estas son las personas que el mundo presenta como famosas. Como los fariseos del Evangelio de hoy, ellos tienen lugares de honor a donde quiera que van. ¿Te gustaría seguir su ejemplo? Las Escrituras de hoy nos ofrecen

diferentes ejemplos de a quien seguir. Jesús nos dice que el más grande en medio de nosotros son las personas que sirven. Ellas son las personas que debemos honrar e imitar su ejemplo. Se nos llama a ser como Pablo, quien trabajó duro para atender las necesidades de sus comunidades y Jesús quien dio su vida al servicio del mundo.

Second Reading — You have received not a human word but the word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:7b-9, 13). Gospel — Call no one your father on earth; you have but one Father, the one in heaven (Matthew 23:1-12).

National Needs Collection November 11-12, 2017

This collection combines three national collections into one: Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Catholic Communication Campaign and Catholic University of America. More than nearly 46 million Americans live in Poverty USA. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), PovertyUSA seeks to educate and promote understanding about poverty and its root causes. Casi 46 millones de estadounidenses viven en situación de pobreza. La campaña Católica para el Desarrollo Humano (CCHD, en ingles), un programa de los obispos católicos de EE.UU. PovertyUSA busca educar y fomentar el entendimiento acerca de la pobreza y sus causas raíz.

Dear Friends in Christ, The Spirit of St. Anthony Claret was truly alive as we honored and celebrated the Feast Day of St. Anthony Claret. Our weeklong Novena invited all in our parish to learn more about the life and mission of our patron saint. His legacy continues because we all choose to make his mission our own. From the Heavens, he inspires us to live in love for the Lord, and walk in mission in spreading the good news. I truly enjoyed witnessing the prayerful devotion of our community each night, especially with the visit of the international statue of Our Lady of Fatima to commemorate the centennial of her apparition in 1917. The Filipino sponsored “cowboy” dinner dance and the Latino sponsored cena baile were a smashing hit! I was truly struck and mesmerized by the Chinelos dancers who led the procession of some 1,200 parishioners through the streets of La Palma and the Anna Drive community. All processed with the three floats carrying the statue of St. Anthony, his relics, and the image of the Sacred Heart of Mary whom he venerated. The beautifully decorated streets, the jubilant songs and the spirit of the people were truly contagious. I strongly believe that by showing our spirit and pride of St. Anthony, we were also making a lasting impact on our neighbors of our beloved city of Anaheim. I am truly grateful to all of our Ministers and Volunteers who made our Feast Day such a great success! I am also thankful to all of our parishioners and city officials who also prayed and participated in the festivities. May the Lord bless all of you for your generosity and kindness. And may we usher forth living the motto of St. Anthony Claret: “the charity of Christ urges us on!”

Queridos Amigos en Cristo, El Espíritu de San Antonio Claret estaba realmente vivo al honrar y celebrar su Día. Nuestra Novena de una semana, invitó a todos los feligreses de la parroquia a aprender más sobre la vida y la misión de nuestro santo patrón. Su legado continúa porque todos elegimos hacer su misión nuestra. Desde los Cielos, nos inspira a vivir en amor por el Señor y caminar en misión para difundir las buenas nuevas. Verdaderamente disfruté haber presenciando la devoción de nuestra comunidad cada noche, especialmente con la visita de la estatua internacional de Nuestra Señora de Fátima para conmemorar el centenario de su aparición en 1917. La cena patrocinada por los filipinos "cowboy" y el latino patrocinado cena baile fue un gran éxito! Los bailarines de Chinelos me sorprendieron e hipnotizaron y lideraron la procesión de unos 1,200 feligreses por las calles de La Palma y la comunidad de Anna Drive. Todos en procesión con las tres carrozas que llevaban la estatua de San Antonio, sus reliquias y la imagen del Sagrado Corazón de María a quien veneraban. Las calles bellamente decoradas y las canciones jubilosas y el espíritu de la gente fueron realmente contagiosos. Creo firmemente que al mostrar nuestro espíritu y orgullo de San Antonio, también estábamos teniendo un impacto duradero en nuestros vecinos de nuestra querida ciudad de Anaheim. ¡Estoy verdaderamente agradecido a todos nuestros Ministerios y Voluntarios que hicieron de nuestras Fiestas un gran éxito! También estoy agradecido a todos nuestros feligreses y funcionarios de la ciudad que también oraron y participaron en las festividades. Que el Señor los bendiga a todos por su generosidad y amabilidad. Y que podamos seguir viviendo el lema de San Antonio Claret: "¡la caridad de Cristo nos urge!"
