ANNOUNCEMENTS
Halloween can be very exciting for young children because it includes two things that most children love – dressing up in costumes and sweets! But it can also be a dangerous evening for young kids. So, if trick-or-treating is a part of your family’s traditions, please consider the Santa Monica Police Department suggestions that you try to Trick-or-Treat while there is still sunlight outside. Make sure children wear costumes that make it easy to walk, see and be seen. Use make up instead of a mask. Carry a flashlight with you so you can see and be seen easily and consider adding reflective tape to your child’s costume. Pick well-lighted streets if you are taking your children out and make sure they cross only at corners – never between parked cars or mid-block. And very importantly, make sure children wait to get home to sort, check and eat their treats and make sure you check the candy with them. Since an over-abundance of sugar isn’t in any child’s best interest, Edison is also highlighting two ways to help others at Halloween – and reduce the amount of candy your own child eats at the same time!
We will be again be collecting and delivering candy to OPERATION GRATITUDE to lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of our Active Duty and Veteran communities. So let your child pick a few special treats and donate the rest to help others. We will be collecting candy at School on Monday Nov. 3 and Tuesday Nov. 4. Operation Gratitude annually sends 150,000+ care packages filled with snacks, entertainment, and personal letters of appreciation, to new recruits, veterans, first responders, wounded warriors, care givers and to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed overseas. Thanks to Dr. Diana Marquez for coordinating this on behalf of the Edison PTA.
TRICK OR TREAT FOR UNICEF and instead of only collecting candy for themselves, your children can help raise money for this international organization that helps children around the world by providing them with, drinking water, medicines, educational activities at refugee camps, bed nets to protect families from deadly malaria-carrying mosquitoes, etc. Seven Edison classrooms are participating any child can receive Trick or Treat for UNICEF box by contacting Teacher Anabella Fullerton, who is coordinating this initiative at Edison. Bring the box and donations back to school by November 7
th and help children around the world!
HELP MAKE EDISON’S FALL FESTIVAL EVEN MORE ENOYABLE – on November 8 at the Edison Fall Festival Halloween Costume Parade! There’s no candy involved but it’s so much fun for children when all their school friends get to see their fabulous Halloween Costumes and they can dance to the Monster Mash and other Halloween favorites!
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES – Have you signed up yet for a conference with your child’s teacher? Contact the teacher directly or check the bulletin boards in the Parent Information Center Remember that October 29 is a pupil free day for conferences (NO CLASSES) and minimum days are October 30, 31 and November 3,4, 5. Please make sure you’ve adjusted your pick up plans or child care appropriately. HALLOWEEN – Our schoolwide Costume Parade is on Saturday, November 8 at the Fall Festival so please do not send children to school in costume on Halloween. Check with your child’s teacher to see if there are any special activities, planned for that day and remember that we do not serve sugary or fatty foods to children during school. FAMILY FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES IN SANTA MONICA - This year, the PALloween event at Barker Hanger at Santa Monica Airport will NOT be happening. So you may want to consider these other family friendly activities:
Frightfully “Fintastic” Fishy Fest at Heal the Bay’s Pier Aquarium on 10/25 and 10/26 from 12:30-5:00 p.m. Fun activities and a Sunday spooky parade and trick-or-treating at Pier Businesses.
All You Can Carry Pumpkin Patch – Santa Monica Farmers Market on October 29, 8:30am at Arizona Ave and 2nd Street. Keep as many pumpkins as you can carry.
Montana Merchants Association Halloween Hop on 10/31, 3:00-6:00 p.m. Montana Avenue 6th - 17th Streets Trick-or-treat at numerous Montana merchants.

¡Halloween puede ser muy emocionante para los niños jóvenes porque incluye dos cosas que les encantan a la mayoría de niños – vestirse en disfraces y dulces! Pero también puede ser una noche muy peligrosa para los niños jóvenes. Así es que si pedir dulces es parte de las tradiciones de su familia, por favor consideren las sugerencias del Departamento de Policía de Santa Mónica que traten de pedir dulces mientras todavía hay luz del sol afuera. Asegúrense de que los niños se pongan disfraces en los cuales puedan caminar fácilmente, puedan ver y ser vistos. Usen maquillaje en lugar de máscara. Carguen una linterna con ustedes para que puedan ser vistos fácilmente y consideren agregar cinta reflectora al disfraz de su hijo/a. Escojan calles muy bien alumbradas si van a salir con sus hijos y asegúrense de que crucen solamente en esquinas – nunca entre carros estacionados ni a media cuadra. Y muy importante, asegúrense de que los niños se esperen a que lleguen a su hogar para buscar, revisar y comer sus golosinas y asegúrense de revisar los dulces con ellos.
¡Porque la abundancia de azúcar no está en el mejor interés de cualquier niño, Edison también se está enfocando en dos maneras de ayudar a otros en
Halloween – y reducir la cantidad de dulces que su propio hijo/a coma a la misma
vez!
De nuevo estaremos colectando y entregando dulces a OPEREACION GRATITUD para levantar los ánimos y cumplir con las necesidades evolucionando de nuestras comunidades de Servicio Activo y Veteranos. Así es que deje que su hijo/a escoja algunos dulces especiales y done el resto para ayudar a otros. Estaremos colectando dulces en la Escuela el lunes 3 de noviembre y el martes 4 de noviembre. Operación Gratitud anualmente manda más de 150,000 paquetes de cuidado llenos de botanas, entretenimiento, y cartas personales de agradecimiento, a reclutas nuevos, veteranos, primeros en asistir, guerreros heridos, proveedores de cuidado y a individuales nombrados cómo miembros de Servicio de los Estados Unidos desplegados en el extranjero. Gracias a Dra. Diana Marquez por coordinar esto a nombre de la PTA de Edison.
“Trick or Treat” (Truco o Golocina) Para UNICEF y en lugar de colectar dulces para ellos mismos, sus hijos pueden recaudar dinero para esta organización internacional que ayuda a niños alrededor del mundo proporcionándoles agua para tomar, medicinas, actividades educacionales en campos de refugio, redes para camas para proteger familias de mosquitos quienes cargan malaria mortal, etc. Siete salones de Edison están participando y cualquier niño puede recibir una caja de “Trick or Treat” al comunicarse con Maestra Anabella Fullerton, quien está coordinando la iniciativa en Edison. ¡Traigan las cajas y las donaciones de regreso a la escuela a más tardar el 7 de noviembre y ayuden a niños alrededor del mundo!

Conferencias de Padres y Maestros– ¿Ya se apuntaron para una conferencia con el maestro/a de su hijo/a? Comuníquense con el maestro/a directamente o revisen los tableros de boletines en el Centro de Información de Padres. Acuérdense que el 29 de octubre es un día libre de estudiantes para conferencias (NO HAY CLASESE) Y los días mínimos son el 30 y 31de octubre, y el 3, 4 y 5 de noviembre. Por favor asegúrense de ajustar su planes para recoger a sus hijos o tener cuidado de niños apropiadamente.
Halloween– es el 20 de octubre. Las formas están en la oficina principal si se perdieron el primer día de fotos o si necesitan re-tomar fotos.
Taller Para Padres Sobre Enfoque y Atención, Parte II –22 de octubre a las 8:30 am, estrategias para usar en casa con los niños quienes tienen retos de enfoque y atención en el salón 208.
¡“Run Fest” Festival de Carrera (anteriormente conocido cómo Santa Mónica 5000) – regresa el domingo, 19 de octubre, 2014! Regístrense en www.santamonicarunfest.com.

Halloween – Nuestro Desfile de Disfraces Escolar se llevará a cabo el sábado, 8 de noviembre en el Festival de Otoño así es que por favor no manden a los niños a la escuela con disfraz en Halloween. Revisen con el maestro/a de su hijo/a para ver si hay algunas actividades especiales planeadas para ese día y acuérdense que no servimos comidas con azúcar ni grasa a los niños durante el día escolar.
Halloween Amigable a Familias – Actividades en Santa Mónica Este año el evento PALloween en Barker Hanger en Santa Mónica NO se llevará a cabo. Podrán considerar estas actividades amigables para familias:
Tenebrosamente “Fintastic” Festival de Peces en el Acuario Heal the Bay el 10/25 y el 10/26 de 12:30 – 5:00 p.m. Actividades divertidas y un desfile espantoso el domingo y pedir dulces en los negocios del muelle.
Todo lo que Puedan Cargar Huerto de Calabazas – El Farmers Market de Santa Mónica el 29 de octubre, 8:30 a.m. en la Arizona Avenue y la 2nd Street. Quédense con todas las calabazas que puedan cargar.

It will be an opportunity for parents to receive a report of their child’s progress in school. It is also an opportunity for you and your child’s teacher to get to know each other better and discuss mutual concerns regarding his/her progress.

Last Edison Volunteer Training of the Year!
If you did your volunteer training over four years ago or you are a new parent that wants to be a volunteer, please join us at our ELAC meeting on November 12th at 8:30 a.m. This will be the THIRD and last volunteer training of the 2014-2015 school year. Join the other 200+ parent volunteers who have already completed the training and are ready to serve. The training will be presented bilingually. There will be NO individual volunteer trainings this year. Any parent that wants to volunteer in our school or wants to go on a field trip needs to complete the volunteer form, do the volunteer training and have a current TB test. If any of these are not complete, parents will not be able to volunteer.

Broadway Gymnastic School is a private establishment and is not affiliated with Edison. Gymnastics classes are
offered to all Edison students as an afterschool enrichment program. Enrollment includes: a registration form,
