YOUNG ADULTS / JOVENES ADULTOS
Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. Vincent de Paul,
From (Oct.3-28) a synod for Young People, the Faith,
and Vocational Discernment is concluding where
different representatives worldwide gathered with
Pope Francis to reflect and respond to the call of
caring for, promoting and sustaining youth and
young adult ministry. Thankfully we have in our
parish youth ministry and Life Teen but have we
thought about our young adults? “Young adults are
persons in their late teens, 20’s, and 30’s who
represent diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, educational,
vocational, social, political and spiritual
backgrounds. They are college students, workers,
and professionals; they are persons in military
service; they are single, married, divorced or
widowed; they are with or without children; they are
newcomers in search of a better life.” (USCCB) It is
our hope that our parish may be a space where
young adults may develop and thrive in their faith
and where we can provide opportunities for their
discernment processes. With the recent visit of MSpS
Leadership, our Archdiocesan goals for youth and
young adults we are strongly encouraged to have
youth and young adult ministry as a priority in our
parish. On behalf of our parish I want to thank all the
youth who help from altar serving to those who do
outreach and help in our different events. You are
awesome! Thank you for you faith, your ideas, you
tireless generosity and creativity. Know of my
prayers for you and your needs.
Fr. Hugo, MSpS
Pastor
e tnicos, educativos, vocacionales, sociales, polí ticos y
espirituales.
P. Hugo, MSpS, Pa rroco

THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: The LORD has delivered his people, the remnant of Israel. (Jer 31:7b)
Psalm: The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. (Ps 126)
Second Reading: Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. (Heb 5:1)
Gospel: The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." (Mk 10:51b-52a)
Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass ©2001, 1998, 1970 CCD. The English translation of Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.
GOSPEL MEDITATION "Son of David, have pity on me!" Has the cry of Bartimaeus ever escaped your lips? Today's Gospel tells the story of a blind man with a difficult lot in life. He made a living by begging coins off passing travelers. When word reaches him that Jesus will be passing by, this is when he begins is shouts for mercy. Jesus hears Bartimaeus' cry and beckons him forward. "What do you want me to do for you?" Last week, Jesus asked a similar question to James and John. Their response was a clutch for fame. Bartimaeus' response is much humbler. "Lord, I want to see." How strange this interaction must have seemed to the onlookers. The man is blind! Of course he wants to see! But Jesus is always teaching us. By asking us what we want, Jesus reveals the dispositions of our hearts. God already knows them, but do we? By asking James and John to name their ambition, their selfishness is exposed to them and to the other disciples. By asking Bartimaeus to name his longing, his faith is exposed to the entire crowd. Jesus invites participation in our own redemption. He doesn't save us without us!
Take some time in silent prayer today. Place yourself in this story of Bartimaeus. Imagine yourself there on the dusty, crowded roadside. Jesus is calling you! When you stand before him, his focus is on you and you alone. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asks. Search your heart. How would you respond? What part of your heart is Jesus asking you to expose? He has come to heal and to restore. May we, too, be sent! "Go ... your faith has saved you."

Enseguida, comenzo a gritar. "¡Jesu s, Hijo de David, ten compasio n de mí !" (Marcos 10:47).
¡Sen or, ayu danos a ver ma s alla de nuestra miopí a!

A PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
"The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus." ~St. Jean Vianney
Jesus Christ, Great High Priest, You are able to sympathize with our human weakness Strengthen your priests for the work of ministry. You healed, proclaimed, and taught. Renew your priests in their concern for the poor, zeal for the Gospel, and personal witness to virtue. You instituted the sacraments as signs of heavenly grace. Make holy your priests for this sacred service. You bore our sufferings and sins upon yourself. May your priests remain close to the broken-hearted. Jesus Christ, Great High Priest, bring your priests ever closer to your Sacred Heart. Amen.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP
It was many years ago, but I remember it as if it was yesterday. Before most good basketball players left college early for the NBA draft, the Duke Blue Devils won back-to-back championships in men's basketball. The morning after the second championship, I drove to the campus bookstore in order to be one of the first to purchase commemorative T-shirts: one for me and several more for my parents and wife. A crowd was at the door of the store when I arrived, long before it was open for business. When I finally walked inside, I looked around and saw one shirt in particular I liked. I walked over to it, and as I got close to reaching out to pick it up, a little old lady literally ran into me, spun me around, grabbed the shirt, and shrieked, "It's mine!" As if there was only one shirt in the entire store! Neither of us were entitled to that shirt. In fact, we aren't entitled to much in this life. Rather than searching to get what we think we deserve or trying to beat out others for a better position in this world, our God calls us to focus on helping others to experience the many gifts available to them in this life. We are called to serve instead of be served. Our mission is to sacrifice ourselves and what we desire on this earth for the Kingdom of God. If we are willing to essentially assault someone to get to a T-shirt, what will we do when the stakes are higher? After my initial shock, I wasn't really angry with that lady at Duke. After all, I would like to think that if she simply asked me for it I would have given it to her. At least, I hope I would have. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

WHAT IS MEDITATION?
"“Meditation is above all quest.”
Meditation is a Christian practice of prayer dating back to the early Church. As the Catechism states: "Meditation is above all a quest. The mind seeks to understand the why and how of the Christian life, in order to adhere and respond to what the Lord is asking." By meditating on the Gospels, holy icons, liturgical texts, spiritual writings, or "the great book of creation," we come to make our own that which is God's. "To the extent that we are humble and faithful, we discover in meditation the movements that stir the heart and we are able to discern them. It is a question of acting truthfully in order to come into the light: "Lord, what do you want me to do?" (CCC 2705-2706).
Meditation is an essential form of Christian prayer, especially for those who are seeking to answer the vocational question, "Lord, what do you want me to do?"

BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENT NO. 4
Some frequently asked questions about the On the Way - ¡Ándale! Capital Campaign:
Why do we need both the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal and the On the Way - ¡Ándale! Capital Campaign?
The Church’s mission is advanced in important ways through both the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal and the
On the Way - ¡Ándale! Capital Campaign. In general, the annual appeal supports the daily operations of
critical ministries throughout the archdiocese whereas the campaign funds more strategic, comprehensive,
and larger scale initiatives to continue to build and grow our parishes, vocations, lay educational/formation
programs and Catholic schools well into the future.
How much will I be expected to give to the campaign?
You will be invited to consider prayerfully a specific sacrificial pledge to the campaign. How much you end up
pledging is, of course, your own faith-guided decision. According to the U.S. Bishops’ 1992 Pastoral Letter,
Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response, all we have is a gift from God. We give out of gratitude for our blessings and
are asked to return to God in proportion to the blessings we have received. In this way our gift takes on
spiritual significance and contributes to our sanctification.
ANUNCIO DE BOLETÍN NO. 4
Algunas preguntas frecuentes sobre la Campaña de Capital On the Way - ¡Ándale!:
significado espiritual y contribuye a nuestra santificacio n.
