ANOTHER GREAT CARNIVAL! - Our Carnival last weekend was a tremendous success! Our ninth year of a 3-day carnival went very well. We had a minor setback due to the unexpected rain on Friday but it seems that we made up for it on Saturday and Sunday with excellent attendance. It was wonderful to be able to see so many of our parishioners and their friends enjoying the music, food, rides and friendship. The carnival raffle was also very good and the winners are announced elsewhere in this bulletin. Cur-rently all the bills from carnival expenses are being paid but we should soon know how much of a profit was made. This year’s revenue will be used for the new sound system in our church. I want to thank the owners of the Prairie property as well as St. Mary’s Academy for their kindness in allowing us to use their parking for free. A special word of gratitude also goes out to the Knights of Columbus and other men who did a great job arranging parking for everybody. Thank you especially to Jesus Baron for his help in coordinating all of this. On behalf of the parish priests, Deacon, School Staff, and the entire parish, I want to express my sincere gratitude to ALL who gave of their time, talent and treasure to make it happen. Thank you to all the members of the various par-ish organizations, parish school and religious education parents and students, volunteers of all kinds who did every-thing from setting up to taking down, cooking and serving food to sweeping up and removing trash, counting mon-ey to staffing booths. It was a tremendous effort and you all did it with joy and love! For many of them this was their first time working at the Carnival and they were great! Thanks also to all the donors who were very generous. I especially want to express my appreciation to the mem-bers of the Carnival Committee who worked numerous hours in planning and ensuring that everything ran well. And, in particular our sincere gratitude goes out to a few individuals who went “far and above” the minimum re-quired. These include Mrs. Diana Maria who ran her sixth Carnival this year and did a great job! She was assisted by all the other members of the Carnival Committee: Evelyn Jimenez, Brenda Hernandez, Livier Cueto, Blanca Cabrera, Silvana Beckett, Rafael Velasco, Jose Segura, Kathy Roberts and Amy Kim. Also assisting: Yanet Velas-quez, Samuel Razo, Jose Portugal, Jae Kim, Isabelle Serrano, Noemi Baron, Yvette Ruiz, Maria Herrera, Arcelia Flores & Amelia and Jessie Valenzo. There were also numerous other wonderful volunteers who are too numerous to mention but without whom this event would not have been possible. I am simply amazed at their level of energy and generosity. May God bless and reward all of you! WORLD MISSION SUNDAY – Today in our parish we celebrate World Mission Sunday. On this day we pray es-pecially for all missionaries who spread the truth of Christ’s gospel to the farthest corners of the earth. We will also support our missionaries through our second collection. Thank you for your generosity! ALL SOULS DAY – In just a couple of weeks we will have the annual Commemoration of All Souls, which takes place this year on Friday, November 2nd, and is a powerful celebration of the doctrine of Purgatory. We affirm our belief in the reality of sin as an offense against the awesome majesty of Almighty God, and in His just punishments. We affirm as well our belief that prayer is a powerful instrument before God's throne, that by it we are able to inter-cede for our deceased brothers and sisters. As is our custom, we will pray especially for all those who died in our parish this past year. If you had a family member who passed away this year and the funeral was held here, then that person will be automatically on the list. If the funeral was held elsewhere and you’d like to have their names read during the Requiem Mass, please contact the rectory. Our special annual Requiem Mass with the beautiful music of Fauré will take place at 7:00 p.m. and all those who had a death in their family this last year will receive a special invitation. ¡OTRO GRAN CARNAVAL! - ¡El Carnaval del fin de semana pasado fue un gran éxito! Este fue el noveno año que tuvimos el carnaval de 3 días y nos fue muy bien. Tuvimos un pequeño contratiempo debido a la lluvia inesperada el viernes, pero parece que lo compensamos el sábado y el domingo con una asistencia excelente. Fue maravilloso poder ver a tantos de nuestros feligreses y sus amigos disfrutando de la música, la comida, los juegos y la amistad. La rifa del carnaval también fue muy bien y los ganadores están anunciados en este boletín. En estos mo-mentos se están pagando todas las facturas de los gastos de carnaval, pero pronto deberemos saber cuánto se obtuvo. Los ingresos de este año se usarán para el nuevo sistema de sonido en nuestra iglesia. Quiero agradecer a los propietarios de la propiedad Prairie así como los de la Academia Saint Mary por su amabilidad al permitirnos usar su estacionamiento de forma gratuita. También quisiera agradecerles a los Caballeros de Colón y a otros hombres que hicieron un gran trabajo ayudando a dirigir a todos con el estacionamiento. Gracias especialmente al Sr. Jesus Baron por su ayuda en la coordinación de todo esto. En nombre de los sacerdotes de la parroquia, el Diácono, el personal de la escuela y toda la parroquia, quiero expre-sar mi sincero agradecimiento a TODOS los que dieron su tiempo, talento y tesoro para que este carnaval fuera un éxito. Gracias a todos los miembros de diversas organizaciones de la parroquia, padres y estudiantes de la escuela parroquial y de educación religiosa, voluntarios de todo tipo que hicieron todo tipo de actividades, desde preparar comida, cocinar y servir comida hasta barrer y sacar basura, contar dinero. ¡Fue un tremendo esfuerzo y todo lo hicie-ron con alegría y amor! DOMINGO MUNDIAL DE LAS MISIÓNES - Hoy, celebramos el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones. En este día reza-mos especialmente por todos los misioneros que difunden la verdad del evangelio de Cristo hasta los ultimos rincones de la tierra. También vamos a apoyar a nuestros misioneros a través de nuestra segunda colecta. ¡Gracias por tu gene-rosidad! DIA DE LOS FIELES DIFUNTOS : En un par de semanas tendremos la Conmemoración anual de los fieles Difuntos, que se llevará a cabo este año el viernes 2 de noviembre, y es una poderosa celebración de la doctrina del Purgatorio. Afirmamos nuestra creencia en la realidad del pecado como una ofensa contra la majestad del Dios Todopoderoso, y en sus justos castigos. Afirmamos también nuestra convicción de que la oración es un poderoso instrumento ante el trono de Dios, que por ella seamos capaces de interceder por nuestros hermanos y hermanas difuntos. Como es nues-tra costumbre, oraremos especialmente por los que han muerto en nuestra parroquia el año pasado. Si usted tuvo un miembro de la familia que falleció este año y el funeral se llevó a cabo aquí, esa persona automáticamente estará en la lista. Si el funeral se llevó a cabo en otro lugar y le gustaría que le lean su nombre durante la Misa de Réquiem, co-muníquese con la rectoría. Parents are in a unique position to know about not only their own children, but their children’s friends. If you are a trusted parent, your child’s friend may come to you with secrets. What do you do if a child tells you about abuse? As an adult, it’s critical that you remain calm, and don’t

overreact. Child victims are often frightened and confused, and your confusion and anger does not help their situa-tion.Your concern and support, however, will affirm the child in important ways and can help begin the healing

process for a child victim who has suffered at the hands of a predator. To learn more about steps to take if a child
