«La grulla vive cien años, y la tortuga, diez mil.»
Según la simbología tradicional japonesa, la tortuga
representa la longevidad. Su manera de moverse es
un símbolo de la paciencia y la autoridad, y el dibujo
y la forma octogonal de su caparazón son señal de
buena suerte. En este reloj, la tortuga se asocia a la
flor de loto en honor a la pureza.
Como manda la tradición del maki-e, para realzar
el caparazón del animal se ha aplicado la técnica
momidasi, puliendo la superficie con piedras de
aceite a fin de que la luz se refleje en el dibujo y
destaque su precisión geométrica. La incrustación
del ojo se ha realizado mediante la técnica raden, y
la técnica taka maki-e ha permitido dar cierto relieve
a las hojas que flotan en las olas brillantes.

thousand years.”
In the imaginary realm, for Japanese, the turtle embodies
longevity. The way it moves rightly symbolises patience
and authority, and the pattern on its shell is also a sign of
good luck, as is the octagonal shape of its carapace. Here
associated with the lotus flower, it celebrates purity.
In the purest maki-e tradition, the animal’s shell is brought
out by a light momidasi polishing done using oil stones, in
such a way that the light reflects on its patterns, setting
off their geometric precision. Its eye is incrusted with
shell using the raden technique, while the taka maki-e
technique lends a relief effect to the leaves floating on the
shimmering waves.

NASA’s Cassini spacecraft successfully completed its second-
closest encounter with Saturn’s icy moon Helene on June 18,
2011, beaming down raw images of the small moon. At its closest
approach, Cassini flew within 4,330 miles (6,968 kilometers) of
Helene’s surface.
La nave espacial de la NASA, Cassini, completó con éxito su
segundo encuentro más cercano con Helene, la luna helada
de Saturno, el 18 de Junio del 2011 y envió imágenes de esta
pequeña luna. Cassini voló a 6,968 km (4,330 millas) de la
superficie de Helene.

Estimados Amigos / Dear Friends,
En esta edición tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar dos magníficas
obras del arquitecto francés Paul Andreu, que están dedicadas a
la cultura y las artes en la región del llamado dragón dormido en
Asia, donde el Centro Nacional de las Artes Escénicas de China
aterriza en medio de Pekín para romper con todos los estilos
que lo rodean, simulando la forma de medio huevo en posición
horizontal, construido de titanio y cristal, flotando sobre agua
donde se completa su figura perfecta con el reflejo acuoso, una
propuesta totalmente futurista. La entrada principal es por un
pasillo que pasa por debajo del lago. ¡¡Impresionante!!
Posteriormente en el Centro de las Artes Orientales de Shanghai,
encontramos una arquitectura sumamente innovadora con un
diseño único que va cambiando de forma mientras caminas a
su alrededor, las cinco salas se asemejan a una mariposa vista
desde arriba, en su interior las paredes utilizan como material
principal esmalte de cerámica que al verlas a simple vista
parecen cientos de pequeñas piedras colgadas de techo a piso,
en cada sala se observa un color diferente. Los pisos son de
granito oscuro, las paredes de cristal… es una obra espectacular
que no se deben perder en su próxima visita a China.
Igualmente en esta edición les presentamos a una gran firma
de arquitectos mexicanos fundada por Michel Rojkind, la cual
se está convirtiendo en un ícono y una representación de las
tendencias nacionales.
Y por supuesto también queremos invitarlos a conocer, en
la Riviera Nayarit en Nuevo Vallarta, un gran proyecto de
arquitectura contemporánea mexicana, LUMA te ofrece lujo,
calidad y exclusividad.

In this edition we were able to visit two magnificent buildings by
the French architect Paul Andreu, both dedicated to enhancing
the cultural and artistic life in the Asian region known as the
“sleeping dragon”, where the National Center for Performing
Arts of China lands in the center of Beijing to break with the
ancient style that surrounds it, simulating half an egg built
in titanium and glass, floating upon waters that reflect the
perfection of its shape… a totally futuristic proposal. The main
entrance is through an underwater passage under the lake. Its
impressive!!
Later on, we came upon a totally innovative architectural design:
the Center of Oriental Art in Shangai that changes its shape
while you walk around it. The five halls look like a butterfly from
above and, inside the walls use a ceramic enamel that gives the
impression of hundreds of little stones hanging from the ceiling
in different colors for each hall. Dark granite paves the floor, it
has enormous glass walls… it’s a spectacular building that you
should not miss on your next journey to China.
In this edition we also present a great Mexican firm founded by
Michel Rojkind, who is becoming an icon representing the new
national tendencies in architecture.
And of course, we want to invite you to visit Nuevo Vallarta in
the Riviera Nayarit, a great project of contemporary Mexican
architecture , LUMA offers luxury, quality and exclusivity.

El fuego actúa de forma diferente en el espacio que en la
Tierra. Sandra Olson, una ingeniera aeroespacial del Centro de
Investigaciones Glenn en la Nasa, demuestra la diferencia a
través de su arte. Estas piezas están compuestas por múltiples
sobre-posiciones de tres imágenes de llamas en micro-gravedad.
Los diferentes colores representan las reacciones químicas
dentro de la llama.
Las áreas azules son provocadas por químico-luminiscencia;
las zonas blancas, amarillas y naranjas se deben a hollín
incandescente dentro de la llama. Esta imagen ganó el primer
lugar en el Concurso de Arte de Combustión 2011 que tuvo lugar
en el Séptimo Enuentro Nacional de Combustión de E.U.
Fire acts differently in space than on Earth. Sandra Olson, an
aerospace engineer at NASA’s Glenn Research Center, demonstrates
just how differently in her art. This artwork is comprised of multiple
overlays of three separate microgravity flame images. The different
colors represent different chemical reactions within the flame.
The blue areas are caused by chem-iluminescence (light produced by
a chemical reaction.) The white, yellow and orange regions are due
to glowing soot within the flame zone. This image won first place in
the 2011 Combustion Art Competition, held at the 7th U.S. National
Combustion Meeting.

LA PAZ,
Uno de los destinos turísticos más importantes de la Baja
California Sur, y preferido por nacionales que vistan la zona, es
su capital: La Paz.
La Paz se ubica en la costa centro-oriente del estado y cuenta
con una gran variedad de atractivos naturales y construidos tales
como: su mar de agua tibia, los tonos rojos del cielo al atardecer,
sus inigualables paisajes desérticos y su arquitectura colonial.
La Paz es un destino visitado principalmente por nacionales y
sus familias, además de lunamieleros, y deportistas. El mayor
flujo de visitantes llega a La Paz principalmente por vía aérea,
o terrestre que también visita la zona de Los Cabos; otra vía
utilizada, es la marítima, por cruceros comerciales que llegan al
Puerto de Pichilingue.
Los visitantes a La Paz pueden disfrutar de: snorkel y buceo
disfrutando de la diversidad de la ecología marina, la llegada
de la ballena gris, pesca deportiva, ecoturismo, campismo tanto
en playa como en montaña, ciclismo de montaña, marinas y
cruceros provenientes de San Diego con visitantes provenientes
de Vancouver.
Como toda ciudad turística que cuenta con todos los elementos
tanto de atractivo natural, infraestructura, equipamiento y
seguridad; La Paz cuenta con un importante mercado de venta
de vivienda ya sea vacacional o casa de retiro, accesible para
diferentes mercados.
En La Paz encontramos casas y departamentos (de vivienda
Residencial Turística) con precios desde los $100,000 dólares
y hasta casi $1,500,000 de dólares. Con áreas habitables
mínimas de 150m2 y hasta poco más de 300m2 habitables. El
precio por m2 oscila entre los $800 dólares y hasta los $6,000,
dependiendo de la ubicación y acceso al mar, así como los
servicios y amenidades. Los principales compradores son
nacionales, pero la compra de algunas de éstas unidades por
americanos crece cada vez más.
One of the most important tourist destinations in Southern
Baja California, and preferred by national visitors to the area,
is the state capital: La Paz.
La Paz is located in the center-east coast of the state, and it has
a wide range of natural, as well as manmade attractions, such
as: its warm water sea, the red sunsets, its unparalleled desert
landscapes, and its colonial architecture. La Paz receives many
national visitors with their families, as well as honeymooners
and people who enjoy sports. The largest visitor flow to La Paz
arrives mainly by air, or otherwise, by land when also visiting
the Los Cabos area. Another form of transport that is also used
is the sea, via commercial cruises that arrive in the Pichilingue
Port.
Visitors to La Paz can practice: snorkeling and diving, enjoying
the diversity of marine ecology, the arrival of the humpback
whales, sports fishing, ecotourism, camping both on the beach
or in the mountains, mountain biking, marinas, and cruises
from San Diego with visitors that come all the way from
Vancouver.
As any tourist city, it has all the elements of natural attractions
and infrastructure, equipment, and security, La Paz also has a
large market for home sales, either for vacation or retirement
housing, at the reach of various markets.
In La Paz, we find houses and apartments (Tourist Residential
segment) priced from USD$100,000 to nearly USD$1,500,000.
Their minimum inhabitable area is 150m2 and the maximum is
slightly above 300m2. The price per m2 ranges from USD$800
to USD$6,000, based on location and access to the sea, as well
as services and amenities. The main buyers are national, but
the purchase of some of these units by North Americans is on
the rise.

Gernot Reither está utilizando diseño digital y técnicas de
manufactura para reintroducir al plástico como material de
construcción para estructuras de peso ligero y bajo costo. El
proyecto está cambiando nuestro concepto del plástico como
un problema medioambiental y convirtiéndolo en un material
verde, proporcionando una estética innovadora para la
arquitectura medioambientalmente amigable.
Gernot Riether is using digital design and fabrication techniques
to reintroduce plastic as a building material for light-weight and
inexpensive structures. The project is changing our perception
of plastic from an environmentally problematic to a “green”
material, providing a new aesthetic for environmentally friendly
architecture.

El proyecto fue seleccionado por la AIA, “American Institute of
Architects” en un evento anual que pedía una intervención que
diera vida a la ciudad histórica de Nueva Orleans. El proyecto
de Gernot Riether sugiere una serie de espacios para eventos
situados dentro de los patios y pabellones de la ciudad. Por
la noche estos pabellones se transformarían en lugares para
eventos, revirtiendo el material de la ciudad: lo que eran
espacios privados durante el día, por la noche se convierten en
espacios públicos de música entre otros eventos.
El material está hecho de PET de glycol modificado (PETG). Este
producto se puede conseguir de reciclar plásticos, o si se desea
de caña de azúcar: una planta integral de la cultura de Luisiana
durante los últimos 200 años.
El pabellón está construido de 320 células triangulares, con los
contornos doblados, para crear un sistema geodésico complejo.
La superficie dentro de la “celda” se adapta a las diferentes
necesidades como asientos, soportes luminarias, macetas para
plantas con colectores de agua pluvial. La compleja geometría
permite combinar estructura con recubrimiento en un solo
sistema.
The project was selected for realization at an annual AIA call
of entries that asked for an intervention that brings to life the
historic city of New Orleans. Gernot Riether’s project suggested
a series of event spaces sited within usually hidden, often private
courtyards to re-activate the city. At night the pavilions would
transform into event spaces and reverse the cities’ fabric: What
was a private space during the day would become a public space
for music and other events at night.
The material is made from glycol-modified polyethylene
terephthalate (PETG), and can either be produced from recycled
plastic, or more pertinent to this location, from sugar cane: a
plant that has been an integral part of the culture of Louisiana
for over 200 years.
The pavilion is built from 320 different triangular cells. The edges
of each cell are folded. When connected the edges of all cells form
a complex geodesic system.
The surface within the cell is transformed to respond to different
functions such as seating, support for light fixtures, plant holders
of rainwater collectors. The complex geometry of the cells allowed
combining structure and envelope in a single material system.Foto

Establecida en el 2002, esta firma mexicana de arquitectos
fue fundada por Michel Rojkind y se está convirtiendo en
todo un ícono de la arquitectura y una representación de las
tendencias nacionales. No es por nada que esta joven empresa
es tan innovadora, Michel representa toda una generación: fue
baterista de la banda “la gente normal” de Aleks Sintek, además
de tener sus propias bandas de música mientras estudiaba
arquitectura en la Universidad.
Con un estilo fresco y vanguardista, sus edificios son totalmente
innovadores aprovechando al máximo las nuevas tecnologías y
considerando el cuidado del medioambiente.
La casa PR34 en Tecamachalco, Estado de México, es una
remodelación de una casa construida en los años 60´s,
inspirado en los movimientos de una bailarina, la estructura
fue realizada con IPR rolado, la cubierta es de placa de acero
de 5mm cuidadosamente hojalateados como si se tratara de
un barco o una nave espacial, además de estar perfectamente
aislada.
Established in 2002, this Mexican architectural firm was founded
by Michel Rojkind and has become an icon of architecture and
representation of national tendencies. There are plenty of reasons
for this young enterprise to be so innovative, Michel represents an
entire generation: he was the drummer of Aleks Sintek’s band “la
gente normal”, as well as having his own musical bands whilst he
studied architecture in the University.
With a fresh and avant-garde style, his buildings are totally
innovative, using state of the art technologies and taking into
consideration the care of the environment.
House PR34 in Tecamachalco, State of Mexico, is the
refurbishment of a house originally built in the 60’s, inspired
by the movements of a ballerina, the structure was carried out
with rolled IPR, covered by 5mm steel sheets carefully painted
as if it were a boat or even a spaceship, as well as being perfectly
insulated.
La idea del Museo de Chocolate de Nestlé fue una propuesta estridente
de crear una nueva imagen para la fábrica de chocolate con una fachada
roja de 300 metros a lo largo del Paseo Tollocan cerca deToluca, México.
Este edificio parece haber salido del taller de “origami” o pudiera ser un
“alebrije” al mismo tiempo que su estructura liviana le da un aspecto fugaz,
que divierte y anima a los niños antes de adentrarse al mundo mágico de la
experiencia Nestlé, albergando una recepción, un teatro y una tienda.
The idea of the Chocolate Museum for Nestlé was a striking proposal to
create a new image for the chocolate factory with a 300 meter long red
façade along Paseo Tollocan, near Toluca, México. This building seems to
have emerged from an Origami class, or could even be seen as a Mexican
handcraft called “alebrije”. The structure is light and frugal, inviting kids into
a fun building before entering the magical world of the Nestlé experience,
hosting a reception area, a theatre and a shop.

Después del éxito del Museo de Chocolate, es natural que Rojkind Arquitectos fueran los encargados de diseñar el de edificio para el
Grupo de Aplicación Nestlé (Nestlé Lab) en Querétaro. Este edificio sigue la misma idea de formas livianas y alegres que el Museo de
Chocolate e incluye laboratorios, oficinas, un auditorio y sala de cata. Al estar ubicado en una zona considerada como Patrimonio
de la Humanidad, se añadieron arcos con lo que Rojkind juega un divertido y elegante juego entrecortando los arcos de la estructura
cuadrada.
After the success of the Chocolate Museum, it’s only natural that Rojkind Architects were put in charge of the design of the
building for Nestlé Application Group (Nestlé Lab) in Querétaro. This building follows the same fun and merry idea of the
Chocolate Museum and includes laboratories, offices an auditorium and a tasting room. Since it is located in an area of the city
declared World Heritage by UNESCO, arcades had to be added, and Rojkind manages to play an amusing game of colors and
shades, by cutting the arcades out of the square structures.

Without a doubt, Zaha Hadid has become the Queen of
Architecture with this monument: The Guangzhou Opera
House. A spectacular building that’s perched in the middle
of Guangzhou, China, as a cultural center where privileged
students will be able to learn to dance and act; where citizens
and tourists will be able to enjoy the marvels of ballet, theater
and scenic arts surrounded by the exquisite shapes and colors
that only Zaha can achieve and make real.
No cabe duda, Zaha Hadid se ha convertido en la Reina de
la Arquitectura con esta pieza monumental: La Opera de
Guangzhou. Realmente espectacular, se aposenta en el centro
de la ciudad de Guangzhou, China, como un centro cultural
donde estudiantes privilegiados podrán aprender a bailar y
actuar; donde los ciudadanos y visitantes podrán gozar de las
maravillas del ballet, el teatro y las artes escénicas rodeados
de la exquisitez de las formas y colores que tan solo Zaha sabe
lograr y convertir en realidad.

El Corporativo Falco está dedicado a instrumentos musicales y
médicos, creando una nueva imagen para su sede de ventas.
En un terreno ubicado en la zona San Angel en México D.F.
Se construyó un edificio contundente y memorable como una
cápsula de vidrio amarillo surgiendo del centro del jardín. El
interior y el exterior del edificio se interconectan a través de un
entramado de marcos cuadrados transparentes y translúcidos
que dejan entrar una luz cálida y confortante.
También como parte del trayecto de Rojkind encontramos el
restaurante japonés Tori Tori y el edificio de la calle Reforma
432, un rasca cielo imponente de 52 pisos también en la Ciudad
de México; entre otros muchos proyectos.
Uno de las propuestas más recientes, es el edificio High Park
en San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo león. Un edificio de 10
pisos, donde los dos primeros estarán dedicados a comercios
y oficinas y los ocho restantes serán departamentos de lujo.
Un diseño que ha tenido en consideración el uso de materiales
locales y todo un esquema para aislar el edificio de los calores
extremos de esta ciudad.
Falco Corporation is dedicated to musical and medical instruments,
creating a new image for their sales department. On a piece of land
located in San Angel, Mexico City, a memorable and astounding
building was created in the shape of a yellow glass capsule
emerging from the beautiful green garden. The interior and the
exterior of the building are interconnected through a framework of
transparent, semi-transparent and opaque windows that let in a
lovely warm and comforting light.
Also, as part of Rojkind’s trajectory we can find the Japanese
restaurant Tori Tori, and an imposing 52 storey sky-scraper on Calle
Reforma 432, both in Mexico City, among many other projects.
One of their most recent projects is the High Park building in San
Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León. A ten floor building, where the
first two will be dedicated to commerce and offices, and the other
eight will be luxury apartments. The design has been intelligently
created, using local materials and a very clever system for
insulating the extreme heat of this city.

Este gran edificio de titanio y vidrio se encuentra muy cerca de la Plaza Tiananmen y de la Ciudad Prohibida en Pekín, China. Diseñado
por el arquitecto francés Paul Andreu, muy reconocido ya por sus diseños innovadores de numerosos aeropuertos alrededor del mundo,
entre ellos el Charles de Gaulle, el Aeropuerto Internacional de Dubai y Abu Dhabi; el Guangzou Gimnasium, el museo marítimo de
Osaka, el Oriental Art Center en Shangai y el Chengdu Administrative Center.
This fantastic building made of titanium and glass is located only 500 meters from the Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City of
Beijing China. Designed by the French architect Paul Andreu, already well known for his innovative designs for airports around the
world, among them the Charles de Gaulle in Paris, Abu-Dhabi International Airport and Dubai International Airport. He has also been
in charge of designing the Guangzhou Gymnasium, the Osaka Maritime Museum, the Oriental Art Center in Shangai and the Chengdu
Administrative Center.

En cada uno de sus diseños, Paul Andreu demuestra un profundo
conocimiento de la forma y la estructura, aventurándose a crear
ilusiones ópticas, jugando con reflejos, la iluminación natural
y artificial, creando efectos mágicos de día y de noche de una
forma elegante y espectacular, otorgando una imagen de mucha
clase allí donde se ubican sus edificios.
El National Center for Performing Arts en Pekín, coloquialmente
conocido como “el huevo” (The Egg - en inglés), es el edificio
más representativo de esta tendencia. Construido para las
Olimpiadas en la ciudad, en una superficie de 219.000 m2, se
aposenta el edificio elíptico en el centro de un lago artificial, por
debajo del cual se debe atravesar para llegar al edificio en sí.
No tiene más entradas o salidas que esta, creando un espacio
encapsulado donde la cultura y las artes se despliegan en tres
grandes auditorios, además de varias salas de exposiciones.
El caparazón de placas de titanio, está dividido por lo que parece
una cortina de vidrio central, de 100 metros de ancho en su
base, que permite ver todo lo que ocurre adentro, integrándose
de esta manera con la ciudad.
Y aunque pareciera que un edificio tan contrastante no
combinaría con su entorno, dependiendo de la perspectiva
desde donde se ve edificio, se insinúa el símbolo del ying-yang,
mostrando que no es necesario perder el simbolismo y nuestra
historia; y que llegamos al siglo 21 con todo lo necesario para
poder seguir avanzando tecnológicamente, donde las ideas más
innovadoras se pueden hacer realidad sin perder la clase, la
talla y la calidad.
En each of his designs, Paul Andreu demonstrates a deep
knowledge of shape and structure, adventuring to create
optical illusions, playing with reflections, natural and artificial
lighting, creating elegant magical effects between night and
day, and offering a spectacular image of his building wherever
they are.
The National Center for Performing Arts in Beijing, informally
known as “The Egg”, is precisely that kind of building. Built
for the Olympic Games in the city, on an area of 219,000 m2
the oval building seems to rise from the center of an artificial
shimmering lake, under which is the only entrance to the
building, through a transparent passageway. This makes the
building an encapsulated space where the arts and cultural
activities unwrap into the three main auditoriums, as well as
the various exhibition spaces in the area.
The shell is mainly made of titanium sheets, that are divided
in the center by what could seen as a glass curtain that
unfolds into the center ending with a 100 meter base, allowing
everything that happens in the interior to be seen from the
outside, integrating it with the city life.
And even though it would seem that such a contrasting building
would not integrate with the surroundings, depending on where
you view it from the shape of the national symbol of the ying-
yang can be appreciated; showing us that it is not necessary
to lose symbolism and history in modern designs, and that
we have made it into the 21st century with all that is needed
to continue advancing technologically, and that even the most
innovative ideas can be carried out without losing out in class,
status and quality.

Between the exposed beams of the skeleton of the building
and the auditorium, are the foyers, where its hard to see single
straight line, since these seem to whirl and twirl in a strange
dance around the auditorium. Majestic white staircases take you
from the black granite of the foyer up to the balconies with views
out to the rumbling city.
As if this were not enough, the auditorium is a show in itself, quite
apart from the one you probably came to see on stage. Being
completely asymmetric, it looks like a cave illuminated by fireflies,
or even fairies, and the fact that its asymmetric might even
surprise you more when you hear the perfect acoustics. “There
are very, very few asymmetrical auditoriums,” says Marshall.
“But asymmetry can be used to play with sound in very satisfying
ways; it’s more of a challenge tuning it, but the possibilities are
greater, and this one has a beautifully balanced sound.”

El Oriental Art Center de Shangai no se queda atrás, parece

edificios. Realizado con un recubrimiento de vidrio, cambia de
forma mientras te mueves a su alrededor.
Otra vez la innovación y el diseño no están peleados con el
entorno ni la cultura. Este edificio también alberga tres grandes
salas de teatro y varias salas de exposiciones.
The Oriental Art Center of Shangai is not left behind. It seems to
be inspired by a great flower, which resurges from the depths of
the city amid busy streets and tall buildings.
Its shape seems to change shape as you move around it, and
again: innovation and design do not fight with the surroundings

Finalmente, en un vistazo rápido a los aeropuertos diseñados
por el arquitecto, podemos apreciar la misma fascinación de las
formas curvas en los Aeropuertos Internacionales de Abu Dhabi,
Dubai y Charles de Gaulle. Las estructuras metálicas sirven de
base a grandes recubrimientos de vidrio, metal y concreto,
creando edificios funcionales y elegantes a través de los cuales
viajar de un lugar a otro se convierte también en un viaje
arquitectónico, además de servir su función a la perfección.
No es de extrañar que sigamos viendo “brotar” edificios de este
gran arquitecto en diferentes países del mundo entero. Con un
historial como el de Paul Andreu, su legado al mundo es también
un sello estampado en nuestras memorias, y el principio de un
mundo moderno que todos habíamos visualizado alguna vez.
Finally, one quick look at the airports designed by Paul Andreu
and you can appreciate the same fascination for curves in the
International Airports of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The great metal
structures are the base of enveloping glass, metal and concrete,
that create functional, elegant and esthetic buildings perfect
for travelling through, thus making each stop an architectural
surprise and joy, as well as serving their purpose well.
It will not surprise us to see more of Paul Andreu’s building
“sprouting” up in different countries around the entire globe.
With a background like this, his legacy to the world is not only
engrained in our memories, but is also the beginning of a modern
world that we have all envisioned at some point in time.

O2 es el resultado de la transformación de un espacio en el
sótano, debajo de la segunda torre de 40 niveles en el desarrollo
Arcos Bosques en la Ciudad de México, el espacio se encuentra
adjunto al estacionamiento y no contaba con propuesta ni
vegetación alguna.
El diseño se basa en una propuesta sustentable y de convivencia
con el arte contemporáneo. Un restaurante que además integra
terrazas, fuentes, chimeneas, salas, tienda gourmet, joyería,
panadería y florería que se desarrollan en 930 m2.
La labor de Garduño Arquitectos fue crear un diseño completo,
donde además del espacio, todo el mobiliario fuera diseñado
por el despacho y fabricado en México, las lámparas, saleros
azucareros, manteles, gráficos y accesorios fueron hechos
dentro del diseño arquitectónico y creados en el país.
Ambas terrazas son un espacio inmerso en un microclima
vegetal “Un jardín de autor.” Desarrollado alrededor de una
chimenea central, una fuente y regados por medio de micro
nebulización.
La propuesta en cuanto al consumo de agua embotellada
fue eliminar el gasto ecológico que genera el pet, para este
propósito ubicaron la planta purificadora a la vista en la terraza,
diseñaron también una botella de agua de vidrio reciclada y el
restaurante vende únicamente su propia agua reutilizando la
botella. Asimismo todo producto desechable es biodegradable,
incluyendo papel de menús, bolsas y popotes.
O2 resulted from transforming a basement underneath a 40-story
building in the Arcos Bosques project in Mexico City. The area is
located next to a parking lot and had no vegetation at all.
The proposal revolved around sustainability and a connection
with contemporary art. It includes a restaurant with terraces,
fountains, chimneys and sitting areas, a gourmet store, jewelry
shop, bakery and flower shop all in 930 square meters.
The challenge for Garduño Architects was creating a
comprehensive scheme where, aside from making the most
from the existing space, all the furniture would be designed by
the same team and made in Mexico. Light fixtures, salt shakers,
sugar bowls, tablecloths, graphic designs and accessories were
all inspired on a single design vision and all made locally.
Both terraces are immersed in a microclimate of diverse plant life:
a “designer garden”. They were built around a central chimney, a
fountain and watered through micro-nebulization.
An additional proposal was to eliminate bottled water so as not
to contribute to the ecological costs of PET. For this purpose, they
built a water purifying plant, which is visible on the terrace, and
they also designed a water bottle made of recycled wine bottles.
The restaurant only sells its own water and reuses its bottles.
Whereas every disposable product used is biodegradable,
including the paper used for printing menus, bags and straws.

Se efectúo una curaduría para la intervención del espacio a
través de diversos artistas jóvenes, mismos que crearon sus
propuestas en escultura, video, gráfica y fotografía. Lo que hace
del lugar un espacio intervenido más que decorado. La curaduría
será renovada cada 6 meses y así jóvenes artistas podrán
acercarse para mostrar su trabajo de una manera cotidiana.
El resultado fue un entorno cálido, sofisticado, con personalidad
y luz.
Existe una conciencia humana además de arquitectónica en
todo el trabajo que se hizo en este lugar y una intención de que
la gente reciba un beneficio al trabajar y consumir en el lugar.
A curatorship was set up to be in charge of the artistic side
of this space and to collaborate with several young artists
who created their proposals in sculpture, video, graphics
and photography. The result is more of an intervened space
than a decorated one. The curatorship is to be renewed every
six months so young artists can use the space as a way of
showing their work in an everyday background.
The end result is a warm, sophisticated and luminous place
with its own personality.
The architectural vision reflected in all the work done in this
place reveals a human consciousness intent on having people
benefit, both as staff and as costumers.

Siguiendo el notable crecimiento de la gastronomía
Brasileña, la ruta de São Paulo tiene un restaurante muy
expresivo, siendo una parada obligatoria para los turistas de
la ciudad.
Kaá, abrió sus puertas en diciembre del 2008, es un verdadero
oasis en el centro del caos de la ciudad. El restaurante tiene
un techo corredizo y una pared exhuberante de vegetación,
especialmente diseñado por Gica Mesiara, que cubre la pared
con siete mil especies de plantas típicas de Mata Atlântica,
como son los helechos, begonias y las orquídeas.
La arquitectura del espacio, proyectado por Arthur Casas fue
galardonado por el American Institute of Architects en 2009
como uno de los mejores proyectos arquitectónicos. En el
2010, fue seleccionada como el Mejor Restaurante del nuevo
mundo por la revista Wallpaper.
Los Chefs y la cocina
La gastronomía italiano-francesa del restaurante está
encabezada por los chefs Paulo Barros y el francés Pascal
Valero. Las pastas se preparan ahí mismo y ofrecen opciones

Following the remarkable growth of the Brazilian gastronomy,
the route of São Paulo has a greatly expressive restaurant, known
especially for its outstanding project and that is an obligatory
stop for tourists in the city.
Kaá, which had its doors opened on December 2008, is a true
oasis in the middle of the São Paulo caos. The restaurant, has a
retractile roof that opens when you least expect and an exuberant
vertical garden, especially designed by Gica Mesiara. Seven
thousand different species of plants typical of, such as maidenhair
ferns, begonias, orchids and polypodies ferns, completely cover
one of the restaurant’s wall.
The place’s architecture, projected by Arthur Casas, was also
awarded by the American Institute of Architects in 2009 as one
of the best architectural projects. In 2010, it was elected the best
New World restaurant by the Wallpaper magazine.
The Chefs and the Cuisine
The French-Italian gastronomy of the restaurant is headed by
the chef Paulo Barros and by the French chef Pascal Valero. The
pastas are prepared indoors and there are options such as brie
cheese ravióli with apricot, on sage and nuts butter and Tagliolini
in lemon sauce with shrimp and mini vegetables
Among the French-Italian inspired main courses currently served,
you can taste starters such as Squid stuffed with crayfish, black
risotto, and Piperade sauce and Roasted duck with souari nut,
sauté potato in orange sauce.

ocasión les estamos presentando el modelo de un yate hidro-
aero dinámico que posiblemente comencemos a ver en el
mercado en años venideros.
Su diseñador Jan Gielens ha trabajado durante años
desarrollando nuevas tecnologías en diseño naval para
alcanzar la perfección aerodinámica y es este súper yate Xi
que reúne toda la sabiduría que ha adquirido, utilizando su
propio principio llamado “The Dynamic Stability” (Estabilidad
Dinámica) Registrado bajo la ley de la propiedad intelectual

Con la entrada deslizante debajo del ala, el puente de mando
de vidrio se convierte en un agradable solárium y una terraza
parcialmente cubierta. Al mismo tiempo cada recámara
cuenta con vistas panorámicas y terrazas para asolearse en
la superficie. El interior consiste en espacios automatizados
y transformables con muebles de diseño contemporáneo

The designer Jan Gielens has worked for years developing new

With a sliding entrance in the lower part of the wing; the glass

furniture absorbed and convertible at different levels, luxury

Sus cuadros demuestran también un profundo conocimiento
de las tendencias actuales, utilizando imágenes y colores
modernos, que captan la atención del espectador. Este artista
utiliza sus propias fotografías para conseguir colores y texturas
únicos. Como un diseñador de modas, las figuras que se forman,
se adaptan a la realidad diaria que todos vivimos, pudiendo
captar perfectamente personajes que a todos nos son familiares,
como “bicicleteros y skaters” en el fondo, pasando a través del
cuadro para recordarnos la era en la que vivimos. La naturaleza
con la que desarrolla sus escenarios, son también un reflejo
de cómo apreciamos nosotros mismos la naturaleza, como un
reflejo de la Tierra en pleno movimiento, con el viento que nos
recuerda que los árboles están destellando luz para que no lo
olvidemos.
Estos cuadros parecen estar en movimiento constante, y con
cada vistazo algo más puede surgir de él; creando un baile
con la vista y los sentidos, iluminando el espacio en el cual se
encuentra el cuadro en sí.
His paintings also demonstrate that he has a deep knowledge of
avant-garde tendencies, using the very modern, and daring for
that matter, images and colors that immediately captivate the
attention of the spectator. This artist sees his own photographs
to achieve unique colors and textures. Like a fashion designer,
the human figures that appear in the painting seem to adapt to
a reality we all live in, where familiar characters like cyclers or
skaters “pass through” the background to remind us of the era
we are in. Nature is used in his sceneries, also as a reflection of
how we ourselves might perceive nature, as a reflex of Earth in a
constant movement, with the wind blowing at the trees to send
out shimmers of light so we don’t forget them.
These paintings really are in constant movement, and with each
glimpse we get, something else sprouts from it; creating an
interesting dance with the sight and other senses, illuminating
the spaces in which it is placed at the same time.

Nunca hubiéramos pensado que se podría pintar cuadros tan
impactantes con fotografías. Claro que existen muchos artistas
que experimentan con ambos medios -fotógrafos que utilizan
la pintura, pintores que utilizan la fotografía- llegando a crear
piezas únicas que cautivan la imaginación. Marco Eychenne
es uno de estos artistas, y su técnica demuestra un profundo
conocimiento de la forma y el color, incluyendo obviamente, la
fotografía como eje central.
We would never have thought that such impressive paintings
can be made with photographs. Of course many artists have
experimented with both techniques –photographers using
painting, painters using photographs- creating unique pieces
that captivate our imagination. Marco Eychenne is more
than just one of these artists, and his technique shows a
deep understanding of shape and color, including obviously
photography as the main axe.

Acero inoxidable forjado con ondulaciones que podrían no ser terrenales. Así se pueden percibir las esculturas de esta gran artista mexicano. El acero es un material muy terrenal con el que David logra dialogar muy bien, combinando texturas, materiales, formas y colores, siempre en franca desnudez, obteniendo un resultado extremadamente elegante que roza la sencillez (aunque en realidad sea complejo). Formas que parecieran no poder existir, que cambian con cada perspectiva como si fuesen elementos vivos, que se enrollan, se enlazan y entrelazan como la unión entre dos mundos. En una entrevista con crónica.mx esta unión sale a la luz, como algo místico en las palabras de Guzmán “Es como hacer posible lo poco probable y de cambiarle al material la naturaleza, de uno totalmente inorgánico a uno orgánico, como lo es el acero. Con el encuentro de materiales en la naturaleza se cumple además la necesidad que tienen los humanos de domar las cosas”. Como un baile de los ángeles… al son de la música que se crea con el aire ¿Será el paso de los ángeles por el espacio lo que ofrece Guzmán? Se puede seguir el contorno de cada pieza buscando un principio y un fin sin encontrarlos, continuidad… pura continuidad, las posibilidades encarnadas en la potencia humana son infinitas.
Wrought iron that curls through space as though it weren’t even from Earth… That is how one could perceive this great Mexican artist. Iron is an earthly material that David manages to work very well, combining textures, materials, shapes and colors, always with an honest nakedness, obtaining extremely elegant pieces that caress simplicity (though they are quite complex). Shapes that seem not to even exist, which change form depending on the angle they´re observed from… rolling, tangling, and coiling around each other like the fusion of two different worlds. In fact, this mystical approach comes up in an interview with Crónica.mx, where Guzmán says: “It’s like making possible the less probable and changing the nature of this material: one that is totally inorganic into an organic one, like steel. With fusion of materials from nature, we can also find the need that humans have to dominate things”. Like a dance of the angels… to the sound of the music of a light breeze ¿could it be that Guzmán picks-up the passing of angels through the space that he creates? You can follow the contour of each piece trying to find a beginning and an end without luck: continuity, pure continuity… the infinite possibilities of incarnating the human potential.

quitando la permanencia, con mobiliario que se adapta a esta flexibilidad. Como regla, también cada piso tiene una parte que da al
exterior: una fachada de vidrio semi-transparente, con sombreados tipo persiana de vidrio de colores que se pueden abrir y cerrar
según la posición del sol, aportando a su vez destellos de color que realzan la luminosidad del interior del edificio.

open or close to protect from the sun, while adding dashes of color

Cuando con la edad comienzan a aparecer pequeñas líneas
debajo de los ojos… nos empezamos a preocupar porque nuestra
piel ya no está tan tersa y le empieza a faltar la tonalidad que
la hace verse más vital. Habremos probado varias cremas y
algunas nos ayudan mucho, pero ¿Sabes que hay alimentos que
te ayudan a mantener la piel sana y tersa? Recuerda: la belleza
viene desde adentro.
Aguacate
El aguacate contiene grasas… claro, de las buenas. La piel
necesita estas grasas para mantenerse terso, así que si te
preocupa aumentar de peso concéntrate en consumir sólo las
grasas buenas del aguacate y el aceite de oliva, no engordan y
te benefician mucho.
Frutas y verduras basadas en agua
La sandía, el melón, el pepino y los cítricos. Ayudarán a mantener
tu piel hidratada, brindándote el nivel de humedad óptimo. No
olvides también tomar mucha agua.
Guayaba
La guayaba contiene cuatro veces más vitamina C que cualquier
otra fruta… y la vitamina C actúa como un bótox natural.
Ostras/Ostiones
Con cada 100 gramos de ostión, dependiendo de la variedad,
consumes el 100% de la cantidad recomendada de Zinc. El Zinc
repara los daños realizados a las células de la piel, por ejemplo
si tomaste mucho sol de joven y la piel se resiente ahora.
Camote
El camote es una fuente excelente de beta-carotenos, que
