El espacio urbano es, más que ningún otro, aquel lugar en el cual la humanidad ha des-plegado su deseo en común. Ahí ha cons-truido, planificado, elevado y excavado para moldear un espacio de convivencia bajo ciertas normas de grupo. Si entendemos la ciudad como un paraje en el cual aquellas relaciones comunes se entrelazan con otros elementos – arquitecturas, materiales, vehí-culos, maquinaria; además de los diferentes ciclos naturales y sus actores (climatología, animales, plantas…)- no es difícil imaginar-las como organismos vivos. Más allá de los planes urbanísticos oficiales, el espacio ur-bano se genera a veces desbordando aque-llos, siguiendo procesos de transformación más allá de la ley, que siguen lo intuitivo y en los cuales la improvisación es protagonista.

The urban space is, more than any other, the place in which mankind has displayed its common wish. It is there where it has built, planned, elevated and excavated in order to mould a living environment under certain group norms. If we see the city as a setting in which those common relations are inter-twined with other elements – architectures, materials, vehicles, machinery; in addition to the diverse natural cycles and their actors (climate, animals, plants…) – it is not dif-ficult to think of them as living organisms. Urban space is generated by sometimes overriding the official city plans through transformation processes that go beyond the law, that are guided by intuition and in which improvisation is key.

2. En la práctica artística de Ion Macareno, el taller es el escenario principal en el cual los procesos de trabajo cristalizan. Ahí es donde la praxis emerge como el elemento central, el núcleo sobre el que orbitan el resto de com-ponentes. En el taller las ideas se enredan con los materiales, dando lugar a una serie de reacciones en cadena en la cual una ac-ción lleva a la otra, entendiendo ese proceso como el ejercicio vertebrador de los trabajos. La constante práctica y la ejercitación técni-ca son no sólo herramientas con las cuales dar forma a las ideas, sino al mismo tiempo generadoras de éstas. La propia práctica se convierte en investigación y pensamiento, dando lugar a espacios de trabajo que sacan al artista de su propia zona confortable, para experimentar e investigar lo desconocido como modo de avanzar.

In the artistic practice of Ion Macareno, the studio is the fundamental scenario in which the work process is crystallised. It is there where the praxis emerges as the core ele-ment, the heart around which all the other components orbit. In the studio the ideas are entangled in the materials, giving way to a series of chain reactions in which one action leads to another, viewing this process as the cornerstone exercise of the works.The constant practice and technical reaffir-mation are not only tools, by which ideas are shaped, but at the same time the very generator of these ideas. The practice itself becomes research and thought, giving way to workspaces that make the artist leave his comfort zone in order to experiment and investigate the unknown as a way to move forward.

PESO toma el contexto urbano como punto de partida para reflexionar, precisamente, sobre aquellos momentos en los cuales la intuición y lo inesperado se hacen fuertes frente a lo establecido como actores trans-formadores. Macareno incide en las acciones cuyo campo de acción es la calle, los gestos y materiales que tratan de adaptarse a ella y viceversa. Tomando ciertas formas, dinámi-cas, materiales y herramientas que provie-nen de ese mundo, y tras hacerlos transitar por la praxis del taller, el espacio expositivo se convierte en un nuevo escenario en trans-formación alejado de las habituales referen-cias directas a lo urbano, pero que nos tras-lada fácilmente a aquellos entornos. 3. PESO uses the urban context as a starting point for a reflection on those moments at which intuition and the unexpected are made strong in the face of the establishment as transforming agents. Macareno relates to actions whose field of action is the streets, the gestures and materials that try to adapt to them and vice versa. When taking cer-tain forms, dynamics, materials and tools that come from that world, and after having them moving through the studio praxis, the exhibition space becomes a new changing scenario far from the common and direct references to the urban, but that easily take us to those environments. las que fueron pensadas. Y lo hace sobre la marcha, mientras se desliza por el cemen-to, a base de caer de espaldas. Del mismo modo, la imaginería urbana que entra en el taller de Macareno acaba convirtiéndose en una serie de formas abstractas tras pasar por su proceso artístico. Aquellos elementos acaban siendo transformados en una sínte-sis espacial de formas, líneas y movimientos que, en su relación mutua y con el especta-dor, intentan capturar el momento crucial en el cual el cambio ocurre.

escultura como elemento central y estructu-rador, el vídeo, la instalación o el póster dan forma a obras que, de un modo sutil pero contundente, nos remiten a distintos as-pectos del espacio público: desde formas o texturas que recuerdan a ciertos deportes y culturas urbanas, a materiales utilizados en construcción o formas típicas de mobiliario o arquitectura urbana.

4. Intuición. Adaptación. Hacer y luego pen-sar. No detener el impulso. Aprender ha-ciendo. No es extraño que Macareno se haya fijado en esos espacios de transformación urbana donde el hacer (la praxis) es el motor sobre el que orbitan el resto de elementos. 4. Intuition. Adaptation. Taking action and thinking later. Not restraining the im-pulse. Learning by doing. Not surprisingly, Macareno pays attention to those changing urban spaces where the ‘doing’ (praxis) is the engine around which the other elements orbit. When the skater is riding and conceiv-ing the architecture to use it in a different way, he is reshaping the city and giving its el-ements functions other than those for which

they were intended. And he does this as he goes along, while gliding along the streets and learning from his mistakes. In the same way, when the urban imagery enters Macare-no’s workshop it becomes a series of abstract forms once it has gone through the artistic process. Those elements are transformed into a spatial synthesis of forms, lines and movements, which, in their mutual relation and to the spectator, try to capture that cru-cial moment at which change happens.
