A succession of armies stormed across the Indo-Gangetic plain and imprinted their identity onto the vanquished city, before vanishing into rubble and ruin like the conquerors who preceded them. The city’s colourful, chaotic streets ebb and flow with a heady brew of old and new. Careering buses dodge dawdling camels, leisurely cycle-rickshaws, swarms of motorbikes, and everywhere buzzing autorickshaws. In the midst of this mayhem, the splendours of Jaipur’s majestic past are islands of relative calm evoking a different pace and another world.

Day 5 Jaipur – Bikaner By Surface 330 KM/04-05 Hours

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and drive to Bikaner. On arrival check in at hotel Afternoon proceed for Bikaner sightseeing Bikaner: Bikaner is a vibrant, dust-swirling desert town with a fabulous fort and an energising outpost feel. It’s less dominated by tourism than many other Rajasthan cities, though it has plenty of hotels and a busy camel-safari scene, which attracts travellers.

Karni Mata Temple

According to legend, the rat temple near Bikaner dates back to the 1400s, when Karni Mata, an incarnation of the god Durga, asked the death-god Yoma to reincarnate the son of a grieving storyteller. When death refused to help, Karni Mata promised that all male storytellers - members of the Charan caste - would be reincarnated as rats in her temple. When they die as rats, they are once more reincarnated as members of the Depavats family, as Karni Mata's descendants are known.

Camel Breeding Farm

India’s only Camel Breeding Farm is located in Bikaner. Started in 1975, nearly half the camels bred in India come from this farm including those used in the camel regiment of the Indian Army. Formally named the National Research Center on Camel, the center is more popularly referred to as the Government Camel Breeding Farm.

Day 6 Bikaner – Jaisalmer By Surface 330KM/04-05 Hours

After breakfast, visit Junagarh Fort

Junagarh Fort This most impressive fort was constructed between 1589 and 1593 by Raja Rai Singh, ruler of Bikaner and a general in the army of the Mughal emperor Akbar.

After Junagarh Fort proceed for Jaisalmer, On arrival check in at Hotel Jaisalmer: The fort of Jaisalmer is a breathtaking sight: a massive sandcastle rising from the sandy plains like a mirage from a bygone era. No place better evokes exotic camel-train trade routes and desert mystery. Ninety-nine bastions encircle the fort’s still-inhabited twisting lanes. Inside are shops swaddled in bright embroideries, a royal palace. Despite the commercialism it’s hard not to be enchanted by this desert citadel. Beneath the ramparts, particularly to the north, the narrow streets of the old city conceal magnificent havelis, all carved from the same golden-honey sandstone as the fort – hence Jaisalmer’s designation as the Golden City.

In the evening go for Gadi Sagar Lake

Gadi Sagar Lake This stately tank, southeast of the city walls, was Jaisalmer’s vital water supply until 1965, and because of its importance it is surrounded by many small temples and shrines. The tank was built in 1367 by Maharawal Gadsi Singh, taking advantage of a natural declivity that already retained some water.

Day-7 Jaisalmer – Sam Dunes By Surface 40KM/01 Hours

After breakfast , proceed for Jaisalmer sightseeing as below:

Jaisalmer’s unique fort

Jaisalmer’s unique fort is a living urban centre, with about 3000 people residing within its walls. It’s honeycombed with narrow, winding lanes, lined with houses and temples – along with a large number of handicraft shops, guesthouses and restaurants. Founded in 1156 by the Rajput ruler Jaisal and reinforced by subsequent rulers, Jaisalmer Fort was the focus of a number of battles between the Bhatis, the Mughals of Delhi and the Rathores of Jodhpur

Patwa ki Haveli The biggest fish in the haveli pond is Patwa-ki-Haveli, which towers over a narrow lane, its intricate stonework like honey-coloured lace. Divided into five sections, it was built between 1800 and 1860 by five Jain brothers who made their fortunes in brocade and jewellery. It’s most impressive from the outside. The first of the five sections is open as the privately owned Kothari’s Patwa-ki-Haveli Museum , which richly evokes 19th-century life.

Vyas Chhatri This atmospheric assemblage of golden sandstone chhatris, in an old Brahmin cemetery on a rise on the northwestern edge of town, forms a popular sunset point from which to view the fort.

After sightseeing proceed for Sam Dunes enroute visit Kuldara Village

Kuldara Village This abandoned village is 19km west of Jaisalmer, 6km south of the Sam road. It was abandoned by its Paliwal Brahmin inhabitants – just like the area’s 83 other Paliwal Brahmin villages – about 200 years ago. They were heavily taxed, their property was looted and the daughter of one family had been kidnapped, but there was no response to their complaints, so the entire community upped and left. Legend has it they buried the gold and silver they couldn’t carry in Kuldara, which has attracted treasure hunters to the area. Some of the houses are in remarkable condition as they have been restored for use as film sets – this is a popular Bollywood location!

On arrival Sam Dunes, Overnight on Desert camp in Swiss Tents.

Day-8 Sam Dunes – Jodhpur By Surface 285KM/04-05 Hours

After breakfast , proceed for Jodhpur Jodhpur: Mighty Mehrangarh, the muscular fort that towers over the Blue City of Jodhpur, is a magnificent spectacle and an architectural masterpiece. Around Mehrangarh’s base, the old city, a jumble of Brahmin-blue cubes, stretches out to the 10km-long, 16th-century city wall. The Blue City really is blue! Inside is a tangle of winding, glittering, medieval streets, which never seem to lead where you expect them to, scented by incense, roses and sewers, with shops and bazaars selling everything from trumpets and temple decorations to snuff and saris.

On arrival Jodhpur ,proceed for Jodhpur sightseeing ,

Mehrangarh Fort Rising perpendicular and impregnable from a rocky hill that itself stands 120m above Jodhpur’s skyline, Mehrangarh is one of the most magnificent forts in India. The battlements are 6m to 36m high, and as the building materials were chiselled from the rock on which the fort stands, the structure merges with its base. Still run by the Jodhpur royal family, Mehrangarh is packed with history and legend. Mehrangarh’s main entrance is at the northeast gate, Jai Pol.

Jaswant Thada This milky-white marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, sitting above a small lake 1km northeast of Mehrangarh, is an array of whimsical domes. It’s a welcome, peaceful spot after the hubbub

of the city, and the views across to the fort and over the city are superb. Built in 1899, the cenotaph has some beautiful jalis (carved marble lattice screens) and is hung with portraits of Rathore rulers going back to the 13th century.

Mandore Gardens Situated 9km north of the centre of Jodhpur, Mandore was the capital of Marwar prior to the founding of Jodhpur. Its gardens, complete with rock terraces and home to playful grey langurs, contain a variety of dark-red cenotaphs of Jodhpur’s rulers. These include the soaring but unkempt Chhatri of Maharaja Dhiraj Ajit Singh (1793), which combines Buddhist and Jain elements in its architecture.

City Market & Clock Tower

The century-old clock tower is an old city landmark surrounded by the vibrant sounds, sights and smells of Sardar Market, which is marked by triple gateways at its northern and southern ends. The narrow, winding lanes of the old city spread out in all directions from here.

It’s 75km northwest of Udaipur, and 12km west of Kumbhalgarh as the crow flies (but 50km by road, via Saira). The main temple, the Chaumukha Mandir (Four-Faced Temple), is dedicated to Adinath, the first Jain tirthankar (depicted in the many Buddha-like images in the temple), and was built in the 15th century in milk-white marble.

Day 10 Udaipur

After breakfast, proceed for Udaipur sightseeing as below:

City Palace Surmounted by balconies, towers and cupolas towering over the lake, the imposing City Palace is Rajasthan’s largest palace, with a facade 244m long and 30.4m high. built and extended by various maharanas, though it still manages to retain a surprising uniformity of design.

City Palace Museum

The main part of the palace is open as the City Palace Museum, with rooms extravagantly decorated with mirrors, tiles and paintings, and housing a large, varied collection of artefacts. Durbar Hall: The restored Durbar Hall in the City Palace complex is one of India’s most impressive, vast and lavish, with some of the country’s biggest chandeliers. The walls display royal weapons and striking portraits of former maharanas of Mewar.

Royal Vintage Car Collection

The maharanas’ car collection makes a fascinating diversion, for what it tells about their elite lifestyle and for the vintage vehicles themselves. Housed within the former state garage are 22 splendid vehicles, including a seven-seat 1938 Cadillac complete with purdah system, the beautiful 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom used in the Bond film Octopussy, and the Cadillac convertible that whisked Queen Elizabeth II to the airport in 1961.

Bagore-ki-Haveli This gracious 18th-century haveli, set on the water’s edge in the Gangaur Ghat area, was built by a Mewar prime minister and has since been carefully restored. There are 138 rooms set around courtyards, some arranged to evoke the period during which the house was inhabited, while others house cultural displays, including – intriguingly enough – the world’s biggest turban.

Crystal Gallery The Crystal Gallery houses rare crystal that Maharana Sajjan Singh ordered from F&C Osler & Co in England in 1877. The maharana died before it arrived, and all the items stayed forgotten and packed up in boxes for 110 years. The extraordinary, extravagant collection includes crystal chairs, sofas, tables and even beds.

Jagdish Temple While walking in the bustling city visit, Jagdish Temple: Reached by a steep, elephant-flanked flight of steps, 150m north of the City Palace’s Badi Pol entrance, this busy Indo-Aryan temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651. The wonderfully carved main structure enshrines a black stone image of Vishnu as Jagannath, Lord of the Universe. There’s also a brass image of the Garuda (Vishnu’s man-bird vehicle) in a shrine facing the main structure.

Saheliyon-ki-Bari In the north of the city, about 3km from Lal Ghat, the Saheliyon-ki-Bari was built by Sangram Singh II in 1710. This small, quaint ornamental garden was laid out for the enjoyment of 48 women attendants who came as part of a princess’s dowry and has beautiful, well-maintained fountains (water shortages permitting), kiosks, marble elephants and a delightful lotus pool.

Lake Pichola (Boat Ride during Sunset)

Last but not the least, sunset boat ride in Lake Pichola: Limpid and large, Lake Pichola reflects the cool grey-blue mountains on its rippling mirror-like surface. It was enlarged by Maharana Udai Singh II, following his foundation of the city, by flooding Picholi village, which gave the lake its name.

The walls of the temple are studded with silver coins. The coins are put by the devotees to mark the births or deaths of the loved ones of the devotees who came here to offer prayers.

Pushkar Lake Another major attraction of Pushkar is the picturesque lake that is of immense significance for the follower of Hinduism because of its legendary origins. According to legends, a lotus fell from the hand of Lord Brahma and dropped into this valley. A lake sprang up on the spot, which was subsequently dedicated to him. The entire lake is supposed to be surrounded by 500 temples, 52 palaces, and 52 ghats.

After breakfast, drive to Ranthambhore On Arrival Ranthambore Check in at Hotel

Ranthambore This famous national park is the best place to spot wild tigers in Rajasthan. Comprising 1334 sq km of wild jungle scrub hemmed in by rocky ridges, at its centre is the 10th-century Ranthambhore Fort. Scattered around the fort are ancient temples and mosques, hunting pavilions, crocodile-filled lakes and vine-covered chhatris (burial tombs). The park was a maharajas’ hunting ground until 1970, a curious 15 years after it had become a sanctuary. Seeing a tiger (around 48 when surveyed in 2014) is partly a matter of luck; But remember there’s plenty of other wildlife to see including more than 300 species of birds.
