RULES

Article 1: The city of Antony (France) is organising, on the occasion of the " Rencontres de la Guitare ",the Fifth International Guitar Competition from Wednesday the 24 th of March to Saturday the 27 th of March2004.

Article 2: This competition is organised with the help of the " Conseil Général des Hauts-de-Seine ".

Article 3: PRIZESThe winning prizes are:- 1st Prize: euros 3 050- 2nd Prize: euros 1 525- 3rd Prize: euros 610- Audience’s Prize: euros 305In case candidates are equally placed, the prize will be shared between winners.The 1st prize winner will be invited to play in Antony in the " Rencontres de la Guitare " 2005.A special distinction will be awarded to the best performer of the mandatory piece.

Article 4: The competition is open to solo guitarists from any nationality without any age limit.

Article 5: Registration fee, non-refundable, is euros 60.

Article 6: Applications should be returned by the 8 th of March 2004.

Article 7: APPLICATION PROCEDURESThe application forms must include:a) The completed application formb) Your chosen workc) A photod) Copy of your ID or passporte) The euros 60 registration fee by check payable to " Trésor Public " to send from the 1 st of January2004.

Article 8: Prizes will be payed by order on the winners’ bank account. Winners would be required toprovide the competition office with their bank details.

Article 9: TRAVEL AND ACCOMODATIONa) Travel is at the contestant own expense.b) Accomodation, 3 possibilities:1*) Housing in families which will include accomodation fees only during the competition time. This way isnot suitable for contestants who are accompanied.2*) Housing in Youth hotel (because the number of rooms is limitated, the order of applications will beconsiderated).

3) In hotels, at the contestant own expense (a list of the hotels is available from the competition office onrequest).* The contestant is required to advise the competition office imperatively 2 weeks before arrival.

Article 10: DRAWING LOTA drawing lot will be taking place on Wednesday the 24th of March 2004 at 12 am in the Town Hall (Placede l’Hôtel de Ville - Antony), to allocate the order of appearance of all the contestants. The contestantsmust attend the drawing lot. If they cannot, they are required to advise the competition office. The order ofappearance of contestants cannot be modified.

Article 11: COMPETITION PLANNINGThe competition includes 3 rounds which will take place at the " Conservatoire d'Antony ", 140 avenue dela Division-Leclerc.• 1st round (qualifying): Wednesday the 24 th of March and Thursday the 25 th of March 2004• 2nd round (semifinal): Friday the 26 th of March 2004• 3rd round (final): Saturday the 27 th of March 2004 at 8:30 pm

Article 12: COMPETITION PROGRAM• Qualifying ( maximum 15 minutes )a) Free choice of a piece from the sixteenth century ( L. Milan, F. da Milano, J. Dowland, A. Leroy,D. Bachelard, A. Mudarra, L. de Narvaez… )b) Free choice of a Baroque piece ( S. L. Weiss, J. S. Bach, J. A. Logy, R. de Visée, A. Brescianello, E. G.Baron… )The jury reserves the right to stop the contestant during his/her performance.8 semi-finalists maximum will be announced at the end of the qualifying.• Semifinal ( maximum 20 minutes )a) The piece written by Diogenes Rivas for the competition.This unknown piece obligatory (5’) is available on asking only from october.b) A piece or extracts of a piece written for Andrès Segovia ( J. Turina, F. M. Torroba, M. C. Tedesco,F. Monpou, M. Ponce, J. Rodrigo… )3 finalists will be announced at the end of the semifinal.• Final ( maximum 35 minutes )a) The piece written by Diogenes Rivas for the competition.b) Free program ( the pieces presented during the qualifying and the semifinal cannot be taken back )

Article 13: The contestants must play all of their program from memory and provide the jury with 3 copiesof their free program for the final.

Article 14: THE JURYThe jury will include international musicians. The decisions of the jury is final and cannot be changed. Thejury also reserves the right not to award all the prizes. The jury cannot vote for a contestant whom he/sheis or was the professor.

Article 15: The " Rencontres de la Guitare " reserve the right to cancel the competition if the number ofregistrations is too low. In this case, the registration fee will be refunded.

Article 16: The contestants must agree to abide by the rules of the competition.

Article 17: If any doubt about an article only the French formular has to be considered.
