    SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS

    ST-AC 100

ALL WORK SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY QUALIFIED PERSONS.

WORKING ON THE UNIT WHILE IT IS CONNECTED TO A MAINS SUPPLY SHOULDBE AVOIDED.

    Test equipment required:

    - Isolated Mains A.C. power supply.

    - Portable Appliance Tester.

    - Digital Multimeter.

    - Tools, Standard Electronic Servicing.

    1. PLEASE REFER TO THE CIRCUIT DIAGRAM. The ST-AC 100 spark tester can be

    divided into three sections:

    A. - Filter PCB including mains Transformer (TRN1) and On/Off Switch (SW1)

    B. - Main Control PCB including Output Control (VR2)C. - Test Probe Handle lead, Handle PCB and Nose Cone.

    2. Complete a visual inspection of the ST-AC 100 checking for signs of damage, paying

particular attention to the Mains lead, Handle lead and Nose Cone.

    3. Remove the front and rear grey plastic case bezels, undo the top 2 case screws from the front

and rear panels. Using a large flat bladed screwdriver gently prise the lid from the case and

check for internal damage. Ensuring that there are no loose wires, or damaged components.

    4. Check continuity of the Mains lead, Filter PCB (including fuses F1 & F2) and the internal

wiring. Check the control PCB looking for any damaged, broken or burnt components.

Component values can be checked using a standard digital multimeter.

    5. Remove the Nose Cone by first loosening the 2 grub screws in the Nose Cone Locking

Ring and then un-screw the Locking Ring itself. Check for signs of excessive oil around the

3 brass pins in the Nose Cone base.

    6. Locate and remove the 4 retaining screws from the Nose Cone socket (in the Test Probe

Handle), loosen the cable gland at the rear of the Test Probe Handle and carefully push theHandle cable/PCB assembly out from inside the Handle.

    7. Check continuity of the 4 Handle wires and the condition of the Handle PCB.

NEVER OPERATE THE ST-AC 100 WITH ITS NOSE CONE DISCONNECTED.

    8. The most common faults that have shown over a period of time are-

TR1 - Handle PCB, Short Circuit.

R4 - Control PCB, Open Circuit. Usually due to TR1 (Handle PCB) being short.

Open Circuit Handle Lead, normally at the cable gland entry points.

    Nose Cone, Open Circuit.

    9. Should it be necessary to take voltage readings, the ST-AC 100 MUSTbe connected to amains Isolated A.C Supply to ensure safety. Replace any faulty/damaged components with

    components of identical specification.

    10. Following repair, but before re-commissioning of the ST-AC 100, it is important to carry

out an electrical safety check on the ST-AC 100 using a suitable Portable Appliance Tester.

This is to ensure that it is safe for the operator(s) to use. A record of the repair work and test

    results should be provided.
