Baptism: First Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM. Parents

must come to the Rectory with the with child’s original birth

certificate at least one or two months in advance. Instruction is

held on the Monday before the Baptism at 7:00 PM. For more

information please contact the Rectory.

Sunday XXVIII in Ordinary Time To be grateful is a gift. Our mentality tends to claim that everything should be granted to us from this life, that we own rights on every-thing and that we should get everything we de-sire. In today’s Gospel there is only one man out of ten who shows true gratitude. It is the sto-ry of the ten lepers: all of them were cured but only one – a stranger – comes back showing Je-sus a sincere gratitude towards God. To be grateful is to recognize that life is a gift. This is very important: in order to live a life with free-dom we need to recognize that life is a gift. We cannot call ourselves Christians if we are not willing to share this gift with the others. The Lord calls us to conversion, which is a change of mentality. We grow up with a pretty strong self-centered mentality: “I am the center of my life and anybody else has to please me and do my will.” We do not realize how many times, during the day, we show with our actions this “motto.” In our family, in the place where we work, we fail many times to live as creatures: we see ourselves as the focus of our lives – as “gods” of our life. For this reason, the nine lep-ers went away: they thought that the healing was due to them. They did not recognized God`s love in their healing. They were healed physi-cally, but still blind and sick spiritually. They failed to recognize that life is a gift that which calls us into a relationship with God. There can-not be happiness in the heart of the one who is not grateful. The Samaritan leper, the only one who comes back, on the contrary recognizes that he does not own anything in this world, and he is so happy that wants to give his life to the Lord. May the Lord allow us to see that happi-ness is to spend our life meaningfully for the Will of God, knowing that through faith we do possess already the most important gift: eternal life.

been transferred to another church. We will

have a farewell gathering on October 30,

2016. He will be celebrating the 9am mass

12:30pm in the school auditorium.

Reflexión del Domingo XXVIII del Tiempo Ordinario

El Evangelio de hoy tiene unos marcados

contrastes: -Contraste entre el agradecimiento del

extranjero, que da gloria a Dios y expresa su grati-

tud a Jesús, y los nueve judíos desagradecidos. Los

agradecidos, incluso para con Dios Creador y Pa-

dre nuestro Nadie puede exigir para sí, en exclusi-

va, la salvación de Dios. Pero nueve de aquellos

diez leprosos sí creían que Dios les debía aquel

favor. Por eso son incapaces de volver agradecidos.

Uno sólo, el extranjero el samaritano, el rechazado

de los judíos, el de inferior categoría, el indeseable,

es capaz de descubrir que el Señor ha obrado en él,

le ha salvado. Por eso retorna agradecido hasta

Jesús. Volver a Jesús y darle las gracias no es sim-

ple gesto de buena educación. Volver agradecido a

Jesús es reconocer que la propia vida, en su totali-

dad, ha dado un giro porque en ella se ha produci-

do un encuentro con Jesús y ese encuentro siempre

transforma radicalmente a la persona. Volver agra-

decido a Jesús es, haber reconocido a Jesús como

el Señor, como el Salvador, ya no puede construir

su vida sin contar con Él. Más aún: no puede cons-

truir su vida sin darle a Él el papel principal, el pa-

pel protagonista. No puede construir su vida sin

contar con Él como la clave de interpretación de

toda la existencia. Pero está claro que, para ser ca-

paces de volver agradecidos a Jesús, hace falta re-

conocer, en primer lugar, que Él no nos debe nada,

que su acción para con nosotros es totalmente gra-

tuita. Y sólo quien es capaz de descubrir este amor

generoso y gratuito de Dios, puede volver a Él

agradecido, puede convertirse en discípulo suyo,

puede posponerlo todo, absolutamente todo, fami-

lia, amigos, bienes, incluso a sí mismo, para seguir-

le. De éstos es realmente de quienes Jesús dice «tu

fe te ha salvado» Vivir la experiencia del leproso o

del pecador, o del angustiado, o del falto de espe-

ranza, o del pobre...: vivir la experiencia de nuestro

ser incompleto, deficiente y necesitado de plenitud

es entrar por el camino de la salvación. Reconocer-

nos tal cual somos, en nuestra real y pobre reali-

dad, saber que necesitamos de un salvador y descu-

brirlo en Jesús es vivir la experiencia más profunda

de que el hombre es capaz. Y es, por lo mismo, las

experiencias más auténticamente humanas que

pueda tener el hombre.
