WEEKLY LENTEN REFLECTION

Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Lively Virtues (by Fr. Robert Barron) Join us for four evenings of reflection on Fr. Robert Barron’s “Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Lively Virtues” Monday evenings after the 7pm mass, starting tomorrow, February 18, in the church. The reflections will be lead by Margaret Pinas of Mayslake Ministries. Margaret facilitated our program last Lent. Sin separates us from the love of God, but the cultivation of virtue can restore a right relationship with Him. This Lent, begin the journey from sin to sanctity with Fr. Barron's “Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Lively Virtues.” Based on Dante's writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven stories of Dante's Mt. Purgatory. Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness. Fr. Barron explains the nature of these sins and offers a corresponding virtue for each one, giving practical advice on how to instill this virtue in your own life. Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Lively Virtues can help you make progress on the journey from sin to sanctity this Lent.

St. Leonard Seniors (55+) Reporting BackSt. Leonard Seniors (55+) Reporting Back

A fun time was had by all at our St. Leonard Seniors Valentine Gathering, held February 6 in the Rectory basement.

Participants wrote cards for parishioners at the Courtyard Nursing Home, shared conversation and refreshments, and viewed the Woody Allen romantic comedy “Midnight in Paris”. Fr. Alex and Fr. Roger stopped by to greet the seniors. Mark your calendars for our next gathering: Wednesday, March 13, to celebrate Sts. Patrick and Joseph Days.

Parish Lenten Project

Proyecto Cuaresmal de la Parroquia

First Week of Lent

Growing Food in Burkina Faso In the small West African nation of Burkina Faso, 80% of the population are farmers. Frequent droughts make it

difficult to produce enough food for the entire year. Often, farmers can only grow enough to feed their families for seven months. The rest of the year is called “the hungry season.” This week, we pray for families in Burkina Faso and give to CRS Rice Bowl to help small-scale farmers.

Please pick up a Rice Bowl on your way out of church and participate in this parish Lenten project.

Tom Nieter began his Boy Scout experience in 1998 as a 5 year old Tiger scout. He then progressed through rank of Wolf, Bear, and Webelos. He then crossed over to Boy Scout Troop 32. Tom has fond memories of scouting, including the awards he earned in First Aid, Archery, Cooking, and Life Guard. Tom's proudest achievement is the of Eagle Scout rank . His Eagle Scout project involved providing an alert message to children walking to school. He created a 5' x 4' wooden template and spray painted the message "LOOK B4 U CROSS" on the crosswalks of

local grammar schools in Berwyn. The scouts program has provided him with a full package of life's values. Tom's integrity, kindness, and helpfulness is attributed to the camaraderie and leadership he learned from his Troop 32 experience. Tom was recently awarded the Eagle Scout award, the highest rank in scouting. He was honored during an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony on November 24, 2012 at St. Leonard.
