    Glycyrrhetinic acid

    Glycyrrhetinic acid is obtained from the hydrolysis ofglycyrrhizic acid.

    Its use has been restricted by short lasting actionwith anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

    Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC)

    HPC (cellulose, 2-hydroxypropyl ether) is a derivative

    of cellulose with both water solubility and organic

    solubility.

    Water (or Aqua)

    Structural formula: HO

    Water is the number one ingredient used in cosmetic

    formulations.

    Water must be prepared by going through filtering,

    distilling, deionizing, and sterilizing before it is usedin cosmetics.

    Water is both a vehicle and an active agent.

    Had four functions: Solvent, transportant, lubricant and

    coolant

    Benzoic Acid (C7H6O2)

    Structural formula:

    Physical form: Solid

    Molecular weight: 122.13 g/mol

    Benzoic acid is a natural ingredient occurring in many

    foodstuffs and in plant extracts.

    Benzoic acid, its salts and esters are used as preservatives in

    cosmetic products, with a maximum concentration of 0.5 %,

    (calculated as acid).

    Calcium Chloride

    Structural formula: CaCl

    It is used in cosmetics as an emulsifier and texturizer.

    Alcohol

    When the word alcohol is used alone, it refers to ethanol.

    Alcohol is used as a fast drying solvent & also preservatives.

    When used in products not licensed for drinking, ethanol

    is usually denatured.

    Fragrance

    Fragrance formulas are considered trade secrets,

    manufacturers only state fragrance on the label and

    do not need to identify the chemical makeup.

    Any natural or synthetic substance or substances used

    solely to give an odor to a cosmetic product.

    The phosphate use in cosmetics:Mono- and Di- sodium phosphates

    Functions : Buffers

    Salicyclic acid Has multifunctional properties to help with a variety

    of skin problems, including acne, pimples and

    blemishes. Is the key additive in many skin-care products for the

    treatment of acne.

    It is used in cosmetics as an exfoliant, and is the only

    source of beta hydroxy acid (BHA).

    BHA also has the ability to penetrate into the pore

    (AHAs do not), and can exfoliate inside the pore as

    well; it is thus considered effective for reducing

    clogged pores and breakouts.

    It treats acne by causing skin cells to slough off morereadily, preventing pores from clogging up.

    Conclusion

    Although this product is useful to reduce blemish

    on our face, but what are the sides effect that this

    product will produce either to human or to

    environment?

    And what are precautionary steps should take

    when using this product?

    Example of sides effect:

    a) EDTA i) Attempts to scavenge the tracemetals used and required by body.

    ii)Potent eye irritants.

    Continueb) Hydroxypropyl cellulose - is quite soluble, and

    can be fermented in the large intestine. Large

    concentrations can cause intestinal problems,such as bloating, constipation and diarrhea.

    a) Check with your doctor If you have skin allergiessuch as calcium chloride is an irritant, particularlyon moist skin.
