Organized by the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP), the 3rd International Congress on Mining Management will be held from November 14 to 16, 2016. It will bring together renowned speakers, senior executives and of�cials from important companies and institutions in the country and abroad, who will share their knowledge and experiences for the future of Peruvian mining.
The International Congress will offer professionals from multiple disciplines linked to the sector the opportunity to meet and be updated on the most relevant aspects for strategic and ef�cient management of mining companies.
Under the theme “Building the future of mining in Peru”, this third edition will focus on six management tracks, which are the pillars of business and professional leaders: strategic management of the mining industry; �nancial management; human resources management; productivity management; environmental and social management, and management of information technology, communications and automation.
Organizado por el Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas del Perú (IIMP), el III Congreso Internacional de Gestión Minera se desarrollará del 14 al 16 de noviembre de 2016. Reunirá a destacados expositores, altos ejecutivos y funcionarios de importantes empresas e instituciones del país y del extranjero, quienes compartirán sus conocimientos y experiencias a favor del futuro de la minería peruana.
El Congreso Internacional ofrecerá a los profesionales de múltiples disciplinas, vinculados con el sector, la oportunidad de conocer y actualizarse en los aspectos más relevantes para una gestión estratégica y eficiente de las empresas mineras.
Bajo el lema “Construyendo el futuro de la minería en el Perú”, esta tercera edición se centrará en seis bloques de gestión, que son los pilares de las empresas y profesionales líderes: gestión estratégica de la industria minera; gestión financiera; gestión del capital humano; gestión de la productividad; gestión ambiental y social y gestión de tecnología de la información, comunicaciones y automatización.

La planificación de la minería del futuro requiere el desarrollo de capital humano con alta calidad y capacidad para gestionar e implementar eficientemente los recursos de la industria minera; además de involucrar en sus labores a los sectores público y privado y los centros de formación profesional y técnica a favor del progreso de las comunidades aledañas a los centros de operación.
El Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) estimó el crecimiento mundial para el año 2016 en 3,2%, por debajo del 3.4% que se había proyectado en enero de este año. Esta situación financiera internacional ha generado oportunidades y dificultades en los sectores económicos. En el Perú, como algunos países de la región Latinoamericana, las condiciones de desarrollo y crecimiento se han visto reducidas con cifras de crecimiento promedio en el último año alrededor del 2.8%, debido a la débil demanda mundial, la caída en los precios de nuestros productos de exportación y al bajo dinamismo de la inversión. Con el objetivo de analizar este escenario, el Congreso Internacional contará con la presencia de expertos procedentes de las principales potencias mineras mundiales quienes brindarán estrategias, casos empresariales y perspectivas de inversión en línea con los conceptos de sostenibilidad, crecimiento y proyección; promoviendo que nuestras empresas apunten a generar inversiones en respuesta a las necesidades económicas y sociales actuales.
La minería es la industria más importante en el Perú. Representa más del 10% del Producto Bruto Interno (PBI) y genera más del 50% de las exportaciones nacionales. En la actualidad, no existe otro sector productivo que pueda superar estas cifras. Sin embargo, su importancia, paradójicamente, enfrenta muchos obstáculos para seguir creciendo.
Dado el potencial y la relevancia que posee la industria minera, el Congreso Internacional abrirá paso a un análisis del gran impacto que tiene esta actividad en la economía peruana; además de proponer alternativas multisectoriales para construir una visión compartida, en la que se reconozca que el crecimiento de la minería promueve el bienestar de las comunidades
Strategic management of the mining industry
Mining is the most important industry in Peru. It represents more than 10% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generates more than 50% of national exports. At the present, there is no other productive sector that can overcome these �gures. However, its importance, paradoxically, faces many obstacles to further growth.
Given the potential and relevance that the mining industry has, the International Congress will break new ground on an analysis of the great impact of this activity in the Peruvian economy; in addition to propose multisectoral alternatives to build a shared vision, in which it is recognized that the growth of mining promotes the welfare of communities.
Financial Management

The planning of future mining requires the development of human resources with high quality and ability to manage and ef�ciently deploy the resources of the mining industry; in addition to engage the public and private sectors and vocational and technical training centers for the progress of the communities surrounding the operation centers.

In this regard, during the International Congress renowned specialists will discuss on the skills required by the mining industry and the use of tools necessary to reduce the gaps between the current offer, the applicable labor laws and how to perform collective negotiations favoring all stakeholders.

Convertir el vínculo de las organizaciones con su entorno en una relación armoniosa y positiva y de beneficio mutuo es fundamental para el éxito y viabilidad de los proyectos mineros. Temas como los Estándares de Calidad Ambiental (ECA) y su aplicación; las canchas de relaves en entornos sísmicos: y casos como el de la refinería de La Oroya y la minería aurífera de Placeres en Madre de Dios, entre otros, son desafíos que requieren de una adecuada gestión ambiental.
Asimismo, en el aspecto social; las relaciones con las comunidades locales, los conceptos de valor compartido, empresa comunal y los desafíos que enfrentan los proyectos mineros de pequeña, mediana y gran envergadura, la aceptación social de la minería informal vs. los desafíos en el desarrollo de los megaproyectos, serán discutidos por destacados especialistas durante el Congreso Internacional, a fin de obtener las conclusiones y recomendaciones más relevantes y realistas para ser implementadas en la industria minera peruana.
La actividad minera está compuesta por varios procesos complejos conectados entre sí segundo a segundo. La cantidad de información es de grandes proporciones, la misma que debe mantenerse disponible para, posteriormente, utilizarla en el diseño de estrategias y planes para el negocio a corto, mediano y largo plazo.
Estas son algunas de las variables que abordará el Congreso Internacional, con la finalidad de potenciar el desarrollo de tecnología de la información, comunicaciones y sistemas de automatización, a través de hardware, software, sistemas de reporte, seguimientos e indicadores, entre otros; a fin de que brinden a las empresas oportunidades para mejorar su productividad, predecir escenarios y proveer data de valor a la persona correcta, en el momento correcto.
En la actualidad, el mayor reto del sector minero peruano es recuperar la productividad perdida en los últimos años y el de optimizar de forma conjunta e integrada todos los factores que determinan sus niveles de sostenibilidad.
Por ello, durante el Congreso Internacional se debatirá el impacto que tiene en la industria minera la incorporación de nuevos conceptos empresariales, el desarrollo de una cultura corporativa que permita involucrar a cada una de las áreas, sectores, procesos y actores sociales como un sistema integral altamente productivo, la aplicación de nuevas tecnologías y el manejo óptimo de la información y las bases de datos, junto con otros aspectos que marcarán el futuro de la minería peruana.
En tal sentido, reconocidos especialistas debatirán durante el Congreso Internacional acerca de las competencias que requiere la mano de obra en la industria minera y promover el uso de herramientas necesarias para disminuir las brechas entre la oferta actual, la legislación laboral aplicable y cómo llevar a cabo negociaciones colectivas que favorezcan a todos los actores involucrados.
Productivity management
At present, the biggest challenge of the Peruvian mining sector is to recover lost productivity in recent years and to optimize, in a joint and integrated way, all the factors determining its levels of sustainability.
Therefore, during the International Congress there will be discussed the impact on the mining industry due to the incorporation of new business concepts, development of a corporate culture allowing engaging each of the areas, sectors, processes and stakeholders as an highly productive integral system, the application of new technologies and the optimal management of information and databases, along with other aspects that will mark the future of Peruvian mining.
Environmental and social management
To convert the link between organizations and their environment in a harmonious and positive and mutually bene�cial relationship is critical to the success and viability of mining projects. Topics such as the Environmental Quality Standards (EQS) and its implementation; tailings ponds in seismic environments; and cases such as La Oroya re�nery and placer gold mining in Madre de Dios, among others, are challenges requiring a proper environmental management.
Likewise, in the social aspect, relationships with local communities, the concepts of shared value, community enterprise and the challenges facing mining projects of small, medium and large signi�cance, the social acceptance of informal mining vs. the challenges in the development of mega-projects, will be discussed by leading experts during the International Congress in order to obtain the most relevant and realistic conclusions and recommendations to be implemented in the Peruvian mining industry.
Management of information technology, communications and automation
Mining activity is composed of several complex processes connected with each other every second. The amount of information is of great proportions, which should be kept available for later use for the design of strategies and plans for the short, medium and long term business.
These are some of the variables that the International Congress will address, in order to promote the development of information technology, communications and automation systems, through hardware, software, systems, reporting systems, monitoring and indicators, among others; and to give businesses the opportunities to improve their productivity, to predict scenarios and to provide valuable data to the right person at the right time.
