LÍMITES Y CONTINUIDADTEMAS DE CÁLCULO VECTORIAL
LÍMITE DE UNA FUNCIÓN DE DOS VARIABLES
Sea 𝑓 una función de dos variables definida en un disco abierto centrado en 𝑥0, 𝑦0 , exceptoposiblemente en 𝑥0, 𝑦0 , y sea 𝐿 un número real.
Entonces:
lim𝑥,𝑦 → 𝑥0,𝑦0
𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 = 𝐿
Si para cada 휀 > 0 existe un 𝛿 > 0 tal que:
𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 − 𝐿 < 휀 siempre que 0 < 𝑥 − 𝑥02 + 𝑦 − 𝑦0
2 < 𝛿
EJEMPLO APLICADO A LA DEFINCIÓN DEL LÍMITE
Ejemplo: Verificar un límite a partir de la definición.
lim𝑥,𝑦 → 𝑎,𝑏
𝑥 = 𝑎
Solución:
𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 = 𝑥 y 𝐿 = 𝑎
𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 − 𝐿 < 휀
𝑥 − 𝑎 < 휀
𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 − 𝐿 = 𝑥 − 𝑎 = 𝑥 − 𝑎 2 ≤ 𝑥 − 𝑎 2 + 𝑦 − 𝑏 2 < 𝛿 = 휀
𝑥 − 𝑎 2 ≤ 𝑥 − 𝑎 2 + 𝑦 − 𝑏 2 < 휀
Ejemplo: Calcular el siguiente límite
lim𝑥,𝑦 → 1,2
5𝑥2𝑦
𝑥2 + 𝑦2=
lim𝑥,𝑦 → 1,2
5𝑥2𝑦
lim𝑥,𝑦 → 1,2
𝑥2 + 𝑦2=5 1 2 2
12 + 22=10
5= 2
∴ lim𝑥,𝑦 → 1,2
5𝑥2𝑦
𝑥2 + 𝑦2= 2
Ejemplo: Verificar el siguiente límite:
lim𝑥,𝑦 → 0,0
5𝑥2𝑦
𝑥2 + 𝑦2
𝑦 ≤ 𝑥2 + 𝑦2 y 𝑥2
𝑥2+𝑦2≤ 1
0 < 𝑥2 + 𝑦2 < 휀 ; 𝐿 = 0
𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 − 𝐿 = 𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 =5𝑥2𝑦
𝑥2 + 𝑦2= 5 𝑦
𝑥2
𝑥2 + 𝑦2≤ 5 𝑦 ≤ 5 𝑥2 + 𝑦2 < 5𝛿 = 휀
5 𝑦𝑥2
𝑥2 + 𝑦2≤ 5 𝑦 ≤ 𝑥2 + 𝑦2 < 휀
CONTINUIDAD DE UNA FUNCIÓN DE DOS VARIABLES
Una función 𝑓 de dos variables es continua en un punto 𝑥0, 𝑦0 de una regiónabierta ℝ si 𝑓 𝑥0, 𝑦0 es igual al límite de 𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 cuando 𝑥, 𝑦 → 𝑥0, 𝑦0 .Es decir,
lim𝑥,𝑦 → 𝑥0,𝑦0
𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 = 𝑓 𝑥0, 𝑦0
FUNCIONES CONTINUAS DE DOS VARIABLES
Si 𝑘 es un número real y 𝑓 y 𝑔 son funciones continuas en 𝑥0, 𝑦0 , entonces lasfunciones siguientes son continuas en 𝑥0, 𝑦0 .
1.- Múltiplo escalar: 𝑘𝑓
2.- Suma y diferencia: 𝑓 ± 𝑔
3.- Producto: 𝑓𝑔
4.- Cociente:𝑓
𝑔
CONTINUIDAD DE UNA FUNCIÓN COMPUESTA
Si ℎ es continua en 𝑥0, 𝑦0 y 𝑔 es continua en ℎ 𝑥0, 𝑦0 , entonces la función
compuesta 𝑔 ∘ 𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦 = 𝑔 ℎ 𝑥, 𝑦 es continua en 𝑥0, 𝑦0 . Es decir:
lim𝑥,𝑦 → 𝑥0,𝑦0
𝑔 ℎ 𝑥, 𝑦 = 𝑔 ℎ 𝑥0, 𝑦0
CONTINUIDAD DE UNA FUNCIÓN DE TRES VARIABLES
Una función 𝑓 de tres variables es continua en un punto 𝑥0, 𝑦0, 𝑧0 de unaregión abierta 𝑅 si 𝑓 𝑥0, 𝑦0, 𝑧0 está definida y es igual al límite de 𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧cuando 𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧 se aproxima a 𝑥0, 𝑦0, 𝑧0 . Es decir:
lim𝑥,𝑦 ,𝑧 → 𝑥0,𝑦0,𝑧0
𝑓 𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧 = 𝑓 𝑥0, 𝑦0, 𝑧0
