On January 22, 2016 the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his scheme of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.

After the accomplishment of women in Rio, this scheme is upgraded to Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Beti Khilao

This scheme aims at SAVING GIRL CHILD, EDUCATING THEM and LET THEM PLAY.

What Does It Mean?

Sex Ratio In India Sex ratio is defined as the number of females

per thousand males. In India the sex ratio is not in favour of

females. The disturbing factor in the sex- ratio is its

declining trend. Sex ratio in India, 2011 is 940 females per

1000 of males. Some states have certainly low sex ratio. Eg.

Sex ratio in Haryana is 833 females per 1000 of males.

Female Infanticide: The murder of a female infant. It occurs often as a deliberate murder or abandonment of a young girl or infant.

Peoples’ Perception: People in India consider girls as burden.

Selective Abortion: Also called gender-selective abortion, sex-selective abortion, or female feticide-selective abortion. It involves the abortion of a fetus because it is a girl.

India’s present literacy rate is 74.04% which is below than the world’s average literacy rate i.e. 84%.

At present, India is the largest ill-literate populated country in the world.

In India, there is a gender inequality among the literacy rates. Literacy rate among Men is 82.14%, whereas among Women

its 65.46%.

Reasons For Poor Literacy Rates

Discrimination: Girls are discriminated by not being allow to study.

Household: Girls are only consider to do household activites so, they are denied

from getting education.

Lack Of Facilities: There are not proper facilities such as lack of sanitation and infrastructure, transport facilities, etc.

Sports for girls is ever increasing in India. No. of participating girls and their achievements has

shown improvement and they are bringing name and fame to the country.

In Rio Olympics 2016, total participants in Rio were 117 out of which 63 were men and 54 were women.

At Rio, India won 2 medals which were only won by women like Silver by P.V. Sandhu and Bronze by Sakshi Malik.

Gender Inequality is strongly evident in the fields of sports.

Less Opportunities in comparison to their male counterparts.

Social Environment inhibits women from Sports participation.

Lack Of Proper Facilities And Faculties are posing a big challenge.

Other Programs Launched By Government Sukanya Samridhi Yojana (Girl Child Prosperity Scheme)

The scheme primarily ensures equitable share to agirl child in resources and savings of a family in which she is generally discriminated as against a male child

Sabla or Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls

Skill Development Empowering adolescent girls (Age) of 11–18 years with focus on out-of-school girls by improvement in their nutritional and health status.

Priyadarshini Priyadarshini, initiated in April 2011, is a programme that offers

women in seven districts access to self-help groups.

Educate yourself about the rights of the Girl Child. • Keep in touch with the new Govt. programmes and

policies.

Contact local, state, and national politicians.• Write letters asking for their opinion on the rights of the Girl

Child.

Talk to your parents about the CRC.• Educate the adults in your life!

Advocate for awareness of the CRC.• Begin a social awareness/ human rights club.
