Advantages and Benefits of OER
▪ Availability. Anyone with a computer, tablet, or even smart phone with internet access can use OER.
▪ $Cost$. Material can be found at little to no cost which can help students in paying for their education.
▪ Trendy. Diverse and various content available as OER continues to grow.
▪ Curriculum Development. Help develop quality teaching material by learning from other instructors and professors.
▪ Knowledge. Aids in building knowledge for various types of learners so students can be confident and meet their educational goals.
Disadvantages of OER
▪ Time! It can take quite a bit of time to sort through content.▪ Quality. There is good material out there, but not all of it is
worth sharing.▪ Limited. Even though OER content continues to grow, it can
be lacking in specific subjects.▪ Knowledge Base. Not everyone knows about OER or how
to find it.▪ Internet Dependent. There are times when you don't have
access to the internet, links are broken, or have technical difficulties which can limit access to OER.
