Report speech

El Reported speech o Estilo indirecto es una estructura que usamos cuando reportamos o hacemos mención

sobre algo que alguien ha dicho previamente.

Ciertos verbos son muy frecuentes a la hora de reportar: say, tell, ask, admit, agree, answer, invite, complain.

Example:

Tell She says, i like him

Ask They ask, wath we are going to do?

El 'present participle' es una forma verbal acabada en -ing que es más utilizada como adjetivo o como verbo, a diferencia del

'gerund' que se emplea como sustantivo.

Hay que tener en cuenta que, aunque se denomine 'present participle' puede referirse a un tiempo pasado, presente o futuro.

1. Como adjetivo

Cuando el 'present participle' funciona como adjetivo puede ir delante de un sustantivo o detrás del verbo 'to be' u otros verbos

copulativos.

I read an interesting novel.

Leí una novela interesante.

This novel is interesting.

Esta novela es interesante.

Además puede funcionar como una oración de relativo y en este sentido pueden ir detrás del sustantivo.

There´s a boy dancing with your sister.

Hay un chico bailando con tu hermana.

2 . Como verbo

Sirve para formar los tiempos continuos o progresivos, lo que denominamos gerundio en español.

En este sentido hay que tener en cuenta que, aunque se denominen 'present participle', pueden referirse a un tiempo presente, pasado o

futuro.

Example:

I am watching tv.

Estoy viendo la tv (presente continuo).

I´m coming back next Sunday.

Vuelvo la semana que viene (presente continuo con valor de futuro).

I was having a bath when the telephone rang.

Estaba tomando un baño cuando sonó el teléfono (pasado continuo).

She left London where she had been studying English.

Dejó Londres donde había estado estudiando inglés (pasado perfecto continuo).

Past participle

El Pasado Participio es una conjugación verbal que entre otros usos, se emplea para formar los tiempos perfectos.

En el siguiente cuadro veremos algunos de los verbos irregulares del idioma inglés utilizados con más frecuencia.

Como ya hemos visto, reciben el nombre de irregulares porque no siguen una regla determinada para construir su pasado ni su participio.

Es conocido también como 'ed form' ya que se construye añadiendo dicho sufijo a los verbos regulares. Su

formación y pronunciación es la misma que la del pasado simple.

Infinitivo sin "to" + terminación -ed.

Should" es un auxiliar modal. Tiene varios usos (condicional, dar consejos, deber u obligación débil.)

El verbo se conjuga igual para todas las personas.

Personal Pronouns

Los pronombres personales cumplen la función de sujeto de la oración y son:

Se debe tener en cuenta que:

• I (yo) siempre se escribe con mayúscula.

• En inglés no existe en la actualidad el equivalente a la forma de cortesía "usted" y siempre se usa

"you".

Los pronombres indefinidos no se refieren a ninguna persona, cosa, lugar, ni cantidad específica. Por eso,

se llaman "indefinidos".
