SOIL EROSION
• Soil erosion is one form of soil degradation• Soil erosion is a naturally occurring process
that affect all land forms• It may be slow process that continues
relatively unnoticed or can occurring at an alarming rate causing serious loss of topsoil
TYPES OF EROSION
SHEET EROSION
GULLY EROSION
CHANNEL EROSION
RILL EROSION
SHEET EROSION
The removal of a uniform layer of soil from the surface by runoff
GULLY EROSION
The accumulation of water in narrow cuts which removes the soil to considerable deapth. These cuts can be several feet deep.
CHANNEL EROSION
The scouring of stream banks by increased water flows
DRILL EROSION
The process where numerous small cuts are formed
CAUSESNatural processWindWater flowing down
Human activitiesOver croppingDeforestationOver stocking overgraing
PROBLEMS
Loss of valuable topsoil
Damage to fields
Dicrease in plan productivity
desertification
REMEDIESAvoid overgrazing
Conserve wetlands
Terracing can also be affective
Large steps cut in to a hillside
Encourage water infiltrationdicrease in plant productivity
THANK YOU
