Background• A side project of Warp Records, it was set up in

1999 with funding from NESTA.• Warp Films is an independent film and television

production company based in Sheffield & London, UK, with a further affiliated company Warp Films Australia, based in Melbourne, Australia.

• After the death of Rob Mitchell in 2001, Beckett decided to continue with Warp Films and enlisted the expertise of Sheffield friend Mark Herbert (who had just produced the critically acclaimed first series of Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights for Channel 4) to run the company.

Funding • Each year, the British Film Institute (BFI) invest

over £26m of lottery funds to support film development, production and distribution activity in the UK and the budget is set to rise o £30m by 2017.

• Between 2001 and 2002, the council had £57m at their disposal, with £20.8m from the government and £36.2m from the lottery.

• Film companies can claim back money if they meet a certain criteria:

CriteriaAccessing film tax relief• Film tax relief is available for British qualifying films. Films

must either pass the Cultural Test or qualify as an official co-production;

• Films must be intended for theatrical release;• Films, including those made under official co-production

treaties, must have a minimum UK core spend requirement of 10%;

• Tax relief is available on qualifying UK production expenditure on the lower of either: 80% of total core expenditure; or the actual UK core expenditure incurred.

• There is no cap on the amount which can be claimed.• The film production company (FPC) responsible for the film

needs to be within the UK corporation tax net.

Actors and Actresses• The actors used in Warp Films are not very well

known, you may have seen them a few times but not in anything major. This is because they don’t have the budget to get well known actors to play in their films.

This is England.• This Is England is a 2006 British drama film

written and directed by Shane Meadows.• Turgoose was 13 at the time of filming. Turgoose

had never acted before, had been banned from his school play for bad behaviour, and demanded £5 to turn up for the film's auditions. The film was dedicated to Turgoose's mother, Sharon, who died of cancer on 29 December 2005; while she never saw the film, she saw a short preview. The cast attended her funeral.

Four Lions.• Four Lions is a 2010 British black comedy film. It

is the feature film debut of director Chris Morris, written by Morris, Sam Bain, and Jesse Armstrong.

The film is a jihad satire following a group of home-grown terrorist jihadis from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.

• Morris spent three years researching the project, speaking to terrorism experts, police, the secret service, and imams, as well as ordinary Muslims, and writing the script in 2007.

Future/ Upcoming Films from Warp Films• "The Last Panthers" (2015)Independent claims specialist Naomi (Samantha Morton) is given the job by her boss, Tom (John Hurt), of recovering stolen diamonds... no matter what it takes. Also on the trail of the diamonds, from a different direction, is police officer Khalil (Tahar Rahim). The investigation takes them across Europe and into a world where shadowy figures control events.
