My reflections

Page 16: Presentació curset

• The timing was perfect, but the activity order has a little change. The start was good, remembering what they do in the last lesson of the book, talking about London and remembering the story of the characters.

• After that, I mixed the power point with the web resource. Children saw some parts of the power point,

after that we work with the web resource, and finally we continued with the power point, but the time was respected, I only change the order.

• I was very surprised; children accept the activity a lot, and also, their knowledge, motivation and learning was very good! I expected that countries next to UK were going to be quite difficult, but children get them very quick! Using this direction http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/European_Geography.htm I choose only “Western countries”, because those nations include UK, Ireland, and some countries that are quite near (France, Netherlands…). Previously, they saw a map in the power point. After that, we work with tutorial Level and Level 1. They work as a team (six tables in the English class, six teams). I try to give opportunities to all the students, and using extra material (the web only gives you the opportunity to say where is the country. When they finished, I point them a country and they have to say what was the name).

• Finally, after the web resource and the Power Point, I give them an assessment exercice: paint in a map UK

and Ireland in different colours, paint UK, England, Wales (without the dragon if it was too difficult for them), Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland flags and finally identify five monuments/tipycal English things they saw in the Power Point (Bus, telephone, Big Ben, London Eye and Tower Bridge).

• Not all the tables follow the same way of work: some of them shared work (two started to draw the flags because they remember, another one has the London names and typical things on his head and the other starts with the map) and finally they share everything. Other groups do all the activities together. The two ways of work were interesting. All the groups work a lot during the session.

They really enjoy it, and me too! I’m sure I will do it again in the future!
