Sueños rotos: estudiante indocumentado se suicida

TEXAS – Un estudiante de preparatoria de Mission, Texas, quien tenía la ilusión de ir a la universidad se suicidó debido a que su estatus migratorio no le permitía alcanzar su sueño.
Joaquín Luna, de 18 años de edad, se suicidó el día después de Acción de Gracias, después de que sintió que no tenía opciones para estudiar y ayudar a su familia.
Los familiares dijeron que Luna perdió interés en la escuela después de que el Dream Act no fuera autorizado por el Congreso. Esta acta les hubiera permitido a inmigrantes indocumentados obtener un estatus migratorio si se inscribían en la universidad o se enrolaban en el ejército.
El 25 de noviembre el joven se vistió de traje, se despidió de besos de su familia, se metió en el baño de la vivienda familiar y se disparó en la cabeza. “El no vio otra opción, otro camino” dijo uno de sus hermanos a la filial de CNN en Texas.
De acuerdo a un familiar, Luna dejó una carta en la que revela su miedo de ser un inmigrante indocumentado en este país. La carta también muestra su frustración con el fallo en la aprobación del Dream Act en el Congreso.
Luna tenía seis meses de nacido cuando sus padres y sus cinco hermanos cruzaron la frontera ilegalmente y se establecieron en Mission.
Al crecer, Luna se puso cada vez más ansioso por su falta de un número de seguro social para trabajar. De acuerdo a su familia, estaba muy estresado por la posibilidad de ir a la universidad y después no poder trabajar y ayudar a su familia por ser indocumentado.
Luna estaba cursando el último año de preparatoria en la escuela Juárez-Lincoln de La Joya, donde tenía excelentes calificaciones y soñaba con ser un ingeniero.
“Era uno de los estudiantes más inteligentes de la escuela. Su pasión eran las matemáticas y la ingeniería, y había desarrollado su propio plano para diseñar casas por computadora”, dijo su hermano mayor Carlos Mendoza.
Su familia mencionó que cuando Luna supo que el Dream Act había sido derrotada en el Congreso, le había afectado mucho.
El día de su suicidio Luna llamó a Carlos, quien se preocupó.“Me dijo que tuviera una buena vida, y cuando le pregunté por qué me decía eso, me dijo
‘porque no voy a estar aquí’”. Luna le dijo a su hermano que sentía que no podía lograr sus sueños porque había una barrera enfrente de él.
Mendoza se preocupó y al terminar la llamada corrió hacia la casa de su madre, donde al llegar escuchó un disparo.
Las autoridades han dicho a la familia que la nota que dejó Luna menciona que los motivos principales para suicidarse son su falta de estatus legal y el que el Dream Act no fue aprobada.
Mientas la familia realizaba los preparativos para su funeral, llegó una carta de la Universidad Texas-Pan American, en la que se notificaba a Luna que había sido aceptado para el próximo año en el programa de ingeniería.
Por su parte, Mendoza cree que su hermano murió por una razón. “Todos tienen una misión en la vida y creo que esta era la suya, el comunicar a la gente lo que está sucediendo en América”.
Broken dreams: Undocumented student commits suicide

TEXAS – A high-school student from Mission, Texas who had dreams of going to college committed suicide because his illegal status prevented him from achieving his dream.
Joaquin Luna, 18, committed suicide the day after Thanksgiving, after he ran out of options to study and help his family.
His family said Luna lost interest in school after the Dream Act was not passed by Congress. The Dream Act would have allowed undocumented immigrants to gain legal status if they went to college or enrolled in the army.
On Nov. 25 the young man put on his suit, kissed his family, went to the bathroom in the family home and shot himself in the head.
“He didn’t see another way, another option” one of his brothers told the CNN affiliate in Texas.
According to his relative, Lune left behind a letter in which he reveals his fear of being an undocumented immigrant in this country. The letter also
shows frustration for the lack of votes needed to pass the DREAM Act in Congress.Luna was six months old when his family, including his parents and five siblings,
crossed the border without visas and established themselves in Mission.As he grew older, Luna became more anxious about his lack of a social security
number he would need to get a job. According to his family he was stressed out about the possibility of going to college and then never being able to find work and help his family without a social security number.
Luna was currently on his last year of high-school at Juarez-Lincoln High School in La Joya, where he had excellent grades and had hoped to become an engineer.
“HE was one of the smartest kids at school. His passion was for math and engineering, and he had developed his own blueprint for designing houses by computer,” his elder brother Carlos Mendoza said.
His family said that when Luna found out the Dream Act had failed to pass last year, he took it very hard.
On the day he committed suicide, Luna called Carlos, who became concerned. “He told me to have a good life, and when I asked him why he was saying that to me, he
said: ‘because I’m not going to be here.’” Then he told his brother Carlos that he felt he couldn’t accomplish his dreams because there was a big wall in front of him.
After the call Mendoza ran to his mother’s house, where he heard a gunshot when he arrived.
Authorities have told the family the note Luna left behind says that the main reasons for committing suicide were his lack of legal status and the failure of the Dream Act.
And while the family was planning for Luna’s funeral, a letter arrived notifying him he had been accepted to the University of Texas-Pan American in the engineering program.
Meanwhile, Mendoza believes his brother died for a reason.“Everybody has a mission in life and I think this was his – to communicate to people
what’s going on in America.”
Recording reveals alleged link between Michoacan governor, drug cartel

MORELIA – A recorded conversation between two alleged members of the La Familia Michoacana cartel apparently links Michoacan governor Leonel Godoy with the drug cartel.
The recordings, made public by Milenio Television, allegedly involve Servando Gomez Martinez “la Tuta” and Dionisio Loya “El Tio”, both members of La Familia Michoacana.
The call allegedly took place in 2009.The recording states the drug cartel was aware of the meetings between Godoy and
federal authorities and “La Tuta” allegedly defends Godoy’s presence in those meetings, even though he is their ally.
“Tio, tio, this is not his doing, it’s the military, and because he is the state governor he has to be present, they also sent the Federal Police from Morelia, the Marines from Lazaro (Cardenas), all the division generals will be there at the annual meeting today and tomorrow. This is beyond his control, Tio, as governor he has to be there, he cannot be absent because he is the state authority,” ‘La Tuta’ told ‘El Tio’ over the phone.
The other man, doesn’t seem convinced that Godoy had to be present in those meetings, given that he had been helping the cartel.
Also, the call highlights the alleged shipment of 150,000 pesos and a luxury car to the governor.
“Well, meanwhile, Tio, I have 150,000 (pesos) handy, to be added. And I would like to borrow a car to bring take it to him,” ‘La Tuta said in the conversation.
Godoy immediately rejected any links to the drug cartels, saying he is the victim of a trial in the media.
However, his family has been linked to this same cartel. His brother Julio Cesar Godoy Toscano, a federal deputy, was linked to La Familia Michoacana and federal authorities issued an arrest warrant against him in December, 2010. He is still at large.

MORELIA – Una grabación de una conversación entre dos supuestos miembros del cártel de La Familia Michoacana aparentemente revela el nexo que existe entre el gobernador de Michoacán Leonel Godoy y esta asociación criminal.
Las grabaciones, hechas públicas por Milenio Televisión, aparentemente involucran a Servando Gómez Martínez “La Tuta” y a Dionisio Loya “El Tío”, ambos miembros de La Familia Michoacana.
La llamada aparentemente se realizó en el año 2009.
En ella se menciona que el cártel estaba al tanto de las reuniones entre Godoy y autoridades federales y “La Tuta” defiende aparentemente a Godoy por participar en esas juntas, a pesar de que es aliado del cártel.
“Tío, tío, no es cosa de él, es cosa de los militares, y como es el gobernador del estado tiene que tener la presencia, también mandaron al de Morelia de la PFP (Policía Federal), al de la Marina de Lázaro (Cárdenas), todos los generales de división (estarán) allí en la
reunión anual hoy y mañana. Eso no depende de él Tío, o sea, él como gobernador del estado pos se tiene que arrimar, ni modo que no se arrime, se supone que es la autoridad estatal", dijo “La Tuta” a “El Tío”.
El otro hombre no parece estar convencido que Godoy tenía que estar presente en esas reuniones, ya que había sido aliado de su grupo.
La llamada también recalca el supuesto envío de 150 mil pesos y un auto de lujo al gobernador.
“Bueno, yo por lo mientras Tío, yo tengo 150 mil (pesos) a la mano, ahí que lo sumen. Ah y quería que se me prestara si hubiera un carrito para podérselo llevar”, dijo “La Tuta”.
Godoy inmediatamente rechazó cualquier nexo con los cárteles de las drogas, diciendo que es la víctima de un duro linchamiento mediático.
Sin embargo, su familia ha estado ligada a esta organización criminal.
Su hermano Julio César Godoy Toscano, diputado federal, estuvo ligado al cártel y las autoridades federales emitieron una orden de arresto en su contra en diciembre de 2010. El se encuentra prófugo de la justicia.

DHS issues guidance on prioritizing deportation

El 17 de noviembre de este año el Concilio Americano de Inmigración emitió un comunicado sobre las guías hechas públicas por el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS por sus siglas en inglés) para poner prioridad a las deportaciones.
A continuación reproduzco el comunicado en su totalidad:
“El principal asesor legal de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE por sus siglas en inglés) dio instrucciones a todos los abogados de ICE para comenzar una revisión sistemática de casos de inmigración, para determinad si el buscar la deportación en cada caso es consistente con las prioridades impuestas por la administración.
Esta orden se da después de que el verano pasado el DHS anunciara que planea revisar 300 mil casos de inmigración, para evaluar si caen dentro de las prioridades de cumplimiento y para suspender aquellos casos que no son prioridades. ICE también dio información más detallada a sus abogados con respecto a los criterios a utilizar cuando se determine cuándo pueden usar su discreción para cerrar o retirar un caso.
Estas directivas son pasos importantes hace un cambio en la forma en que se lleva a cabo el cumplimiento de inmigración dentro de la agencia y compagina sus recursos con sus prioridades. Dan el poder a los abogados de ICE para tomar en cuenta las situaciones
individuales de cada caso, cuando deciden si es apropiado continuar con la deportación.
A pesar de que DHS necesita aclarar las amplias definiciones de criminalidad, estas nuevas directrices, si son implementadas en su totalidad, deben significar que el gobierno puede enfocar sus recursos en deportaciones de aquellos que representan una verdadera amenaza a la seguridad pública.

Council issued a statement about guidelines issued by the Department of Homeland Security regarding prioritizing of deportations.
I am reproducing the entire statement below:
“Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Principal Legal Advisor directed all ICE attorneys to begin a systematic review of immigration cases to determine whether pursuing deportation in each case is consistent with the Administration’s enforcement priorities.
This directive follows last summer’s
announcement that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) plans to review 300,000 immigration cases to assess whether they fall within the enforcement priorities and suspend those cases which do not. ICE also provided more detailed guidance to ICE attorneys regarding criteria for determining when it is appropriate to exercise prosecutorial discretion to close or dismiss a case.
These directives are important steps toward reforming the culture of immigration enforcement within the agency and aligning its resources with its enforcement priorities. They empower ICE attorneys to take into account the individual circumstances of each case when deciding whether it is appropriate
to pursue removal. Although DHS needs to refine its overly-
broad definitions of criminality, this new guidance, if fully implemented, should mean that the government can focus its resources on deportations of those who pose a real threat to public safety.
It should result in fewer deportations of low priority immigrants, such as DREAM Act students or individuals with strong family and community ties and more. Importantly, prosecutorial discretion does not mean that a person is granted legal status in the United States; rather, a person whose case is dismissed or closed will remain in the status they were in prior to the initiation of deportation
proceedings.”

AURORA – A fire in a downtown Aurora building caused severe traffic congestion during rush hour and $300,000 worth of damages. No injuries were reported.
The fire started at about 3 p.m. Nov. 28 at the building located at 62 S. Broadway, which for sometime was home to Frantz Gym.
The building is currently on sale and was vacant at the time of the fire.
An employee from a nearby business
smelled smoke and called the Fire Department.
A total of 35 firefighters responded to the call and were at the scene for several hours.
Traffic was detoured through downtown Aurora, as Downer Place and Broadway had to be closed to traffic.
Aurora Deputy Fire Chief John Lehman said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, he said the Illinois fire marshal and a canine unit trained to detect accelerants will be investigating the fire.
“The fire is under investigation,” Lehman
said. “It’s still way too early for us to determine that it is arson.”
The fire caused about $200,000 in damages to the three-story structure and about $100,000 in damages to body-building equipment still inside.
The building was empty at the time of the fire, which is believed to have started in the basement. The first and second floors were heavily damaged by the fire.
Ernie Frantz, 77, is the current building owner. He is considered a legend in the powerlifting world.

AURORA – Un incendio registrado en un edificio del centro de la ciudad causó gran congestionamiento vehicular, cierre de calles durante la hora pico y daños por 300 mil pesos. No hubo reporte de lesionados.
El incendio se registró alrededor de las 3 p.m. del 28 de noviembre en el edificio ubicado en el 62 S. Broadway, que en algún tiempo albergó el gimnasio Frantz Gym.
Al momento del incendio el edificio, que se encuentra en venta, estaba vacío.
Un empleado de uno de los negocios cercanos se dio cuenta que olía a humo y llamó a los bomberos.
En total alrededor de 35 bomberos respondieron a apagar el incendio y estuvieron por varias horas en el lugar.
El tráfico se vio interrumpido en la avenida Broadway, y la calle Downer, por lo que el tráfico por el centro de Aurora se vio afectado.
El subjefe de bomberos John Lehman dijo que la causa del incendio no ha sido determinada, sin embargo, mencionó que el jefe de bomberos del estado y una unidad canina entrenada para detectar combustibles van a participar en la investigación.
“El incendio está bajo investigación”, dijo Lehman. “Todavía es muy pronto para que podamos terminar si fue incendio intencional”.

Trial begins for two charged in Aurora murder
Manslaughter charge dropped in death of 14-month-old girl
AURORA – Kane County prosecutors have dropped manslaughter charges against a 39-year-old woman from Aurora Township, who had been charged in the death of her 14-month-old daughter.
Gloria Gomez was charged with manslaughter after an autopsy revealed her daughter had severe internal injuries that caused her death. The girl, named Aleidy Gomez, died on June 23.
Because authorities dropped the charges, and it wasn’t a judge who dismissed the charge, she can be charged in the future for manslaughter or other crime.
The woman is in jail with a $250,000 bond and an immigration detainer.
She has three other children in Aurora who are currently in foster care.

AURORA – Los fiscales del Condado de Kane han retirado la acusación de homicidio en contra de una mujer de 39 años del municipio de Aurora, a quien acusaron después de la muerte de su hija de 14 meses de edad.

ST. CHARLES – Dos jurados comenzaron a escuchar las acusaciones en contra de dos hermanos por un asesinato en el año 2007 en Aurora.
Los hermanos Joshua y Justin Cavazos, de Naperville, están acusados de asesinar a Oscar Rodríguez, de 15 años y estudiante de la escuela secundaria Simmons en Aurora, en el año 2007.
Los hermanos Cavazos están siendo juzgados de forma simultánea, en la misma sala de la corte. Para este caso dos jurados han tomado juramento y cada uno va a decidir el destino de uno de los hermanos.
Durante la presentación de las acusaciones, un jurado escuchó los cargos presentados en contra de Justin Cavazos, de 21 años de edad. Después fueron evacuados de la sala de la corte para que el segundo jurado escuchara los cargos en contra de Joshua Cavazos, de 22 años de edad. Ambos jurados estarán presentes para escuchar el testimonio de los testigos.
Los fiscales dicen que Jamie Barragán, de DeKalb, manejaba un vehículo en el que también viajaban Joshua Cavazos, Justin Cavazos y David Hernández por el territorio de la pandilla rival. Los cuatro, supuestos miembros de una pandilla, se encontraban a bordo de un vehículo robado y estaban buscando a un miembro de una pandilla rival para dispararle.
Al llegar al área de High y Grove Street el 20 de enero de 2007, vieron a Rodríguez caminando con su novia. Alguien en el automóvil hizo una seña de pandillas a Rodríguez, quien respondió con otra seña. De acuerdo a los fiscales, Hernández decidió que no podía dispararle, por lo que le dio la pistola a Joshua, quien hizo los disparos mortales.
Se espera que Hernández, Barragán y otros pandilleros testifiquen en este caso, a cambio de una sentencia menor por parte de las autoridades. Hernández va a declararse culpable de posesión de un auto robado, él nunca ha sido acusado de asesinato. Por su parte, la sentencia de Barragán será reducida drásticamente a cambio de su testimonio.

When they were in the area of High and Grove Streets in Aurora on Jan. 20, 2007, they saw Rodriguez walking with his girlfriend. Someone in the car flashed gang signals at Rodriguez, who answered with another gang signal. According to prosecutors, Hernandez decided he couldn’t shoot Rodriguez and gave the gun to Joshua, who fired the deadly shots.
Hernandez, Barragan and other gang members are expected to testify in the trial in exchange for leniency.
Hernandez will be pleading guilty to possession of a stolen car, he has never been charged in the murder. Meanwhile, Barragan’s sentence will be greatly reduced in exchange for his testimony.

257 Mexican migrants die trying to reach the American dream

MEXICO CITY – Official numbers indicate that 257 Mexican migrants died attempting to enter the United States illegally.
The information was provided by the Mexican Foreign Ministry, through the General Office of Protection to Mexican Nationals. The data was provided by 12 Mexican consulates located throughout the southern United States.
According to current regulations, Mexican consulates are in charge of providing financial help to families who want to repatriate the bodies of migrants who
died in the United States. The report includes information from Jan. 1 to Oct. 12 and the
consulate that reported the highest number of dead migrants was Tucson with 110, followed by McAllen with 42 and Laredo
with 29.The states that reported the highest number of
dead migrants are Arizona with 130, Texas with 100 and California with 27.
The report indicates that 135 migrants died of dehydration and 35 drowned.
Other causes of death include hypothermia, vehicular
crashes and health complications.

La información fue proporcionada por la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores mediante la Dirección General de Protección a Mexicanos en el Extranjero. Las cifras sobre los migrantes mexicanos fallecidos fueron proporcionadas por 12 consulados mexicanos localizados en el sur de los Estados Unidos.
De acuerdo a las regulaciones vigentes, los consulados mexicanos están a cargo de proporcionar ayuda financiera a familias que quieren repatriar los cuerpos de sus familiares que han muerto en los Estados Unidos.

Sophisticated drug-smuggling tunnel located in Tijuana-San Diego

TIJUANA – A sophisticated tunnel used for smuggling drugs to the United States was discovered by U.S. authorities in the Tijuana-San Diego border, netting over 32 tons of marijuana.
On the Mexican side of the border, the Mexican Army took media outlets on a tour of the tunnel.
The tunnel was discovered by U.S. authorities the morning of Nov. 29, and they alerted Mexican authorities, who found the other end on the Mexican side.
The tunnel entrance was located in a warehouse near the border fence and behind the Tijuana Airport.
Authorities said the entrance to the tunnel on the Mexican side is near the Federal Police facilities and an Air Force Base.
On the U.S. side, the tunnel ends in a warehouse, where drugs were hidden in fruit containers.
The tunnel is about 600 yards long, about 4 feet wide and over 4 feet tall, reinforced with wood and has electric rail cars used to transport drugs to the U.S. side, a hydraulic lift that descends about 26 feet, an air extractor and electricity.
On the Mexican side, the tunnel’s entrance is accessed through a hydraulically-controlled steel door and an elevator concealed beneath the warehouse floor. At the bottom of the tunnel shaft is a large storage room where
agents recovered approximately three tons of marijuana. Another ton of marijuana was piled in bundles near the tunnel’s entrance. Meanwhile, investigators searched the Otay Mesa building that housed the tunnel’s U.S. entrance, where they found another 20 tons of marijuana wrapped in plastic and stacked neatly on pallets. Authorities said the tunnel’s discovery began Nov. 28, when investigators observed a tractor trailer truck leaving the Otay Mesa warehouse. After an overnight stay in the Miramar area, a man picked up the rig and headed to Los Angeles. Canines at the checkpoint in San Clemente alerted the presence of drugs. Agents there, aware of the investigation, waved the truck through the checkpoint and the driver proceeded
to Industry California, where he entered a warehouse.
At that site the driver and three other men started unloading the trailer, which contained close to 11 tons of marijuana. All four were arrested and two other men were also taken into custody in Baldwin Park, California.
The drugs have an estimated street value of nearly $65 million.
“I have never seen a tunnel with these characteristics,” Gen. Gilberto Landeros Briseño said.
Landeros declined to attribute the tunnel to a particular drug cartel.
Two weeks ago U.S. authorities located another tunnel in this same area, where they seized 778 packages of marijuana.

MEXICO CITY – The Mexican Army arrested Ezequiel Cardenas Rivera ‘El Junior’, 23, son of Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen ‘Tony Tormenta’, one of the Gulf cartel leaders who was killed on Nov. 5, 2010. The Army said that four other men, alleged cartel members, were arrested along with ‘El Junior’.
The arrests took place Nov. 25, but were not made public until Nov. 29. According to authorities, an anonymous tip and intelligence worked led them to a party in Matamoros,
Tamaulipas, where ‘El Junior’ and other alleged cartel members were gathered.When authorities arrived at the scene, three vehicles were speeding to get
out of the parking lot. Army personnel saw armed men inside the vehicles and ordered them to stop. All five men were arrested without a shot
being fired.The men arrested are the alleged head of the group in
Matamoros, the accountant for the cartel; the financial guru for the organization and a man in charge of
smuggling drugs to the United States.Along with the men authorities seized
three rifles, six chargers, 180 bullets and five grenades, as well as three
vehicles.The men and the
weapons were transfered to
Mexico City.

TIJUANA – Un sofisticado túnel utilizado para transportar drogas fue ubicado en la frontera entre Tijuana y San Diego por autoridades estadounidenses, logrando el decomiso de 32 toneladas de marihuana.
Del lado mexicano, la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional llevó a distintos medios de comunicación al túnel para que fuera documentado.
El túnel fue descubierto por autoridades estadounidenses la mañana del 29 de noviembre, por lo que alertaron a las autoridades mexicanas correspondientes, quienes encontraron la salida del lado mexicano.
El túnel estaba ubicado en la entrada a una bodega cercana a la barda fronteriza y justo atrás del Aeropuerto de Tijuana.
Autoridades informaron que la entrada al túnel en el lado mexicano está a aproximadamente 100 metros de la Policía Federal y unos 300 metros de una base de la Fuerza Aérea Mexicana.
En el lado estadounidense, el pasaje termina en una bodega, donde la droga era escondida en grandes contenedores de fruta.
El túnel, de 572 metros de longitud, 1.20 metros de ancho y 1.40 metros de altura, está revestido con madera y cuenta con un riel eléctrico utilizado para transportar la droga al lado americano, además de un elevador
que desciende ocho metros, extractor de aire natural e iluminación eléctrica.
Del lado mexicano la entrada del túnel es por medio de una puerta de acero controlada hidráulicamente y hay un elevador disimulado en el piso de la bodega. En el fondo del pasadizo del túnel hay un salón de almacenaje grande donde agentes recobraron aproximadamente tres toneladas de marihuana. Otra tonelada fue encontrada en varios paquetes cerca de la entrada del túnel.
Mientras tanto, investigadores buscaron en el edificio de la Mesa de Otay, donde está la salida del lado norteamericano, y encontraron otras 20 toneladas de marihuana envueltas en plástico y acomodadas en una esquiva.
Las autoridades dijeron que el descubrimiento del túnel empezó el 28 de noviembre, cuando investigadores se dieron cuenta que un tráiler salía de la bodega en Otay. Después de quedarse en la noche en el área de Miramar, un hombre llegó al camión y lo condujo al área de Los Ángeles. En el punto de revisión de San Clemente la unidad canina detectó drogas, pero los agentes, entrados de la investigación, dejaron que el tráiler pasara y se dirigió a Industry California. Ahí llegó a una bodega, donde tres hombres ayudaron al chofer a descargar cerca de 11 toneladas de marihuana. Se calcula que la droga decomisada tiene un valor en la calle de casi 65 millones de dólares.
Las autoridades arrestaron a los cuatro hombres. Dos más fueron arrestados en Baldwin Park.
“No había visto un túnel con estas características”, dijo el general Gilberto Landeros Briseño, general de la Segunda Zona Militar.
El general Landeros dijo que no se podía atribuir este túnel a algún cártel del narcotráfico.
Hace dos semanas las autoridades estadounidenses habían detectado otro túnel en esta misma zona, donde se incautaron 778 paquetes de marihuana.

Descubren sofisticado túnel para transportar drogas en Tijuana-San Diego

La Armada informó que junto
con ‘El Junior’ fueron detenidos otros cuatro delincuentes, supuestos miembros del Cártel del Golfo.
La detención se realizó el 25 de noviembre, cuando mediante una denuncia anónima y trabajo de inteligencia, se supo que ‘El Junior’ estaba en una fiesta en la ciudad de Matamoros, Tamaulipas, donde había un grupo de probables miembros del cártel del Golfo. La
detención se hizo pública el 29 de noviembre.
Al arribar al lugar señalado estaban saliendo del estacionamiento tres vehículos en forma apresurada. El personal militar observó que dentro había personas armadas, por lo que les marcaron el alto y los capturaron sin que se haya efectuado ningún disparo.
Los otros detenidos son José de
Jesús García Hernández ‘El Chuy’, quien es el supuesto jefe de la plaza de Matamoros; René Alberto Munguía Elizondo, contador del Cártel del Golfo en Matamoros y quien dijo estar bajo las órdenes directas de ‘El Chuy’; Javier Enrique Farías García ‘El Contador’, supuesto operador financiero del cártel; y Erasmo García Galván,’ El Checo’, quien aparentemente se
encargaba del trasiego de drogas a Estados Unidos.
Además de los detenidos, se aseguraron tres armas largas, seis cargadores de armas de fuego, 180 cartuchos útiles y cinco granadas de fragmentación, además de tres vehículos.
Los detenidos y las armas fueron trasladados a la Ciudad de México.

New Mexico authorities have said Mexican drug cartels are settling in their state and the violence that comes with them has started to cross the border.
A New Mexico newspaper, the Farmington Daily Times, reported that the Region II Narcotics Task Force Director Neil Haws had said that the Juarez cartel had been in operation in San Juan County for the last two years, but that now the Sinaloa and La Familia Michoacana cartels were moving in as well.
In a presentation before the Bloomfield city council, Haws said that cartel members live in the area, but recruit gang members as drug sellers to avoid detection.
“Drugs and Mexican cartel activities are a real issue in Bloomfield,” Haws said. “The cells are already here, and all of the problems that U.S. cities bordering Mexico are now dealing with are going to come this way. It’s only a matter of time.”
Bloomfield is located in San Juan County, on the northwest corner of the state.
Haws said that the cartels operate in a particular way in Bloomfield: they send a group of four to five males to live in the city with their families and blend in the community. They don’t deal directly with the drug addicts, and this makes them harder to identify.
“These cartel members recruit local gang members to sell drugs to lower-level dealers, who then sell the drugs to the addicts”, Haws said.
Authorities said that lately the Sinaloa cartel has made of Albuquerque a stepping stone for drug distribution throughout the state, and as a result that city has seen an increase in the number of cartel members who have used violence and kidnapping as tools to keep their activities on track in the state.
Haws said the state has become a distribution hub because of its wide open roads and reservation lands, as well as placed where to hide the shipments.
The agent also said that crimes like homicide, kidnapping and money laundering have increased in the county as a result of cartel activities.
He mentioned the case of a local family whose father, cousin and uncle were kidnapped and taken to Mexico. Relatives assume they were killed because they haven’t heard from their relatives or the kidnappers.
“Crimes like these are usually perpetrated by the cartels against undocumented Mexican nationals, so it makes it hard to positively identify a lot of the victims,” Haws said.
The agent made his presentation before the city council to try to get their support to request a federal magistrate for the area, someone that would be in charge of drug trafficking cases.
“Without a federal hammer to help us with our efforts, we don’t have the manpower or resources to keep going after the cartel once some are taken down. They just keep springing up and replacing each other.”

LOS ANGELES – Conrad Murray, the doctor who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of pop singer Michael Jackson, has been sentenced to 4 years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed.
Murray was found guilty of administering a fatal dose of Propofol, a powerful sedative, to the singer on June 25, 2009.
Besides the jail time, the judge also ordered Murray to pay Jackson’s children a restitution which could reach $100 million.
However, Murray’s sentence could be sharply reduced. He will be kept in a county jail instead of a federal prison due to overcrowding in the California penal system. Under new laws, ‘low risk’ convicts charged with a lesser felony only have to serve half of their sentence behind bars and the other half on probation.

Autoridades de Nuevo México han indicado que los cárteles mexicanos de las drogas se han asentado en su estado y la violencia que se ve en México ha comenzado a cruzar la frontera.
Un diario de Nuevo México, el Farmington Daily Times, reportó que el director de la Región II de la Fuerza de Tarea Antinarcóticos de Nuevo México, Neil Haws, dijo que el cártel de Juárez había estado operando por dos años en el Condado San Juan, pero que tanto el cártel de Sinaloa como el de la Familia Michoacana estaban ganando terreno.
En un reporte frente al concilio de la ciudad de Bloomfield, Haws informó que los miembros de los cárteles viven en el área con sus familias y reclutan a miembros de pandillas locales para que vendan las drogas y así evitan ser detectados.
Las drogas y las actividades de los cárteles mexicanos de las drogas son un verdadero problema en Bloomfield”, dijo Haws. “Las células ya están aquí y todos los problemas a los que las ciudades estadounidenses fronterizas con México se están enfrentando ahora van a llegar acá. Solo es cuestión de tiempo”.
Bloomfield se localiza en el Condado San Juan, en el extremo noroeste del estado.
Haws dijo que en Bloomfield la forma en que operan los cárteles es la siguiente: envían un grupo de cuatro o cinco hombres para que vivan ahí con sus familias y se integren a la comunidad. Ellos no lidian directamente con los adictos, por lo que son difíciles de detectar.
“Estos miembros de los cárteles reclutan a pandilleros locales para que ellos hagan las ventas a distribuidores de
menor categoría, quienes la hacen llegar a los adictos”, dijo Haws.
Autoridades informaron que recientemente el cártel de Sinaloa ha convertido a Albuquerque en un centro para distribución de drogas en Nuevo México, por lo que esa ciudad ha visto un aumento en el número de narcotraficantes que han recurrido a la violencia y al secuestro para mantener sus actividades bajo control en el estado.
Haws dijo que el estado se ha convertido en un centro de distribución para otras áreas del país por sus carreteras y las áreas de reservaciones indígenas, además de la facilidad para encontrar lugares de almacenaje.
El agente también dijo que los crímenes como el homicidio, el secuestro y el lavado de dinero se han incrementado en el condado, a raíz de la presencia de cárteles de las drogas.

Jenni Rivera to reveal her secrets in a new autobiography

MEXICO – Singer Jenni Rivera has said she is going to reveal her secrets and her mistakes in a new autobiography, tentatively called “A Crazy Life.”
“It will be very intense, because I will reveal all I have suffered and my successes, people are going to read about my failures and how I got up to keep on fighting.
I am writing it because only I know what I have felt, with my own words without being interpreted I will describe the artist and the human being, because Jenni knows a lot about Jenni,” Rivera said.
While the book is still in the works, she already has offers from three editorial companies and two have even offered to turn her book into a novel.
However, Rivera is very clear about what she wants. “I won’t accept the best financial offer, but the one that will edit the book in quantity and that will promote the book the way I want it,” she said.
Besides her book, she is also working on a line of jeans designed with the Latina woman in mind.
The jeans were designed by Rivera and her oldest daughter and are created for “women with hips and buttocks,” she said. The line will be launched Dec. 6 in Los Angeles.
Rivera also talked about future music projects, saying she would like to pay tribute to singers like Vicente Fernandez, Pedro Infante, Ramon Ayala, Intocable and Espinoza Paz, among others.

MÉXICO – La cantante Jenni Rivera dijo que va a revelar sus secretos, así como sus errores, en una nueva autobiografía tentativamente llamada “La Vida Loca”.
“Será muy intense, pues contaré todo lo que he sufrido y mis aciertos, la gente va a leer mis tropiezos y cómo me levantar para seguir luchando.
“Yo misma la escribo porque solo yo sé lo que he sentido, con mis propias palabras sin que las interpreten, describiré a la artista, al ser humano, porque Jenni sabe mucho de Jenni”, dijo Rivera.
Mientras que el libro todavía no está terminado, Rivera haya ha recibido ofertas de tres casas editoriales
para editar su autobiografía, incluyendo dos compañas que han ofrecido convertir el libro en novela.
Sin embargo, Rivera tiene claro lo que quiere.
“No aceptaré la mejor oferta económica sino aquella que me asegure que se editará en cantidad y que se le promocionará como yo quiero”, dijo.
Además del libro, Rivera se encuentra trabajando en una línea de jeans para la mujer latina.
Los pantalones de mezclilla fueron diseñados por Rivera y su hija mayor, y han sido creados para “las pomponas y caderonas”. La línea será presentada el 6 de diciembre en Los Ángeles.
Rivera también habló sobre sus proyectos musicales a futuro, diciendo que le gustaría rendir homenaje a cantantes de la talla de Vicente Fernández, Pedro Infante, Ramón Ayala, Intocable y Espinoza Paz entre otros.
