SERGIO VALDS BERNAL, Observaciones en torno al origen asignado a determinados vocablos de procedencia indoamericana en la ltima edicin del DRAE (2001)
Los estudios de arquelogos e historiadores de los pueblos precolombinos junto con testimonios de cronistas europeos y otros documentos conforman el soporte terico de este artculo. Segn su autor, la presencia y expansin en el Caribe del aruaco fue mayor de lo que hasta ahora se haba pensado, ya que muchas de las lenguas de los indios antillanos (tanos, lucayos, ciboneyes, coguayos) hay que incluirlas en la variante insular del aruaco, el llamado aruaco insular. - 279 -
Se propone una revisin de las marcas etimolgicas atribuidas a un buen nmero de palabras registradas en la ltima edicin del Diccionario de la Lengua Espaola de la Real Academia Espaola (DRAE). Habra que situar la marca etimolgica aruaco insular en palabras que hasta ahora o no llevan marca o llevan marcas tales como origen incierto, origen desconocido, o bien se califican como voz tana, voz caribe, etc., e incluso se atribuyen a lenguas como el rabe.

The studies of historical archaeologists of the pre-Columbian societies, as well as the testimonies of the European chronicles and other documents constitute the theoretical support of this article. According to its author, the presence and expansion of Arwak in the Caribbean region was greater than it had been thought so far, since many West Indies languages (Tano, Lucayo, Ciboney, Coguayo) must be included in the island variant of the linguistic group arwak, the so called insel arwak or island arwak.
A revision of the etymological marks attributed to a good number of words registered in the last edition of the Dictionary of the Spanish Language by theSpanish Royal Academy (DRAE) is proposed. It would be necessary from the authors view to locate the mark island arwak for the etymology in words that, so far, either do not take mark or take marks such as uncertain origin,unknown origin, or are described as Tano word, Caribbean word, etc., orthey are even attributed to languages like Arab.

influjo de la lengua rabe del original en el romance castellano de la traduccin son: 1) influjos sintcticos y estilsticos, 2) prstamos lxicos: de la lengua comn, tecnicismos astrolgicos. Se aade un glosario con todas las citas, en las que aparecen los prstamos rabes.
DOLORES OLIVER: The Arabisms of the Libro Conplido and other Arabian traces
The aim of this article is to present the rich linguistic material that provides the Libro Conplido en los Iudizios de las Estrellas, a romance translation of an Arab essay written in 1040 about Astrology. The domains of influence of the original in Arab language on the Castilian romance translation are: 1) syntactic and stylistic influences, 2) lexical loans: from the common language andastrological tecnicisms. A glossary with all the quotations, in which the Arabic borrowings appear, is added.
ROSARIO NAVARRO GALA: Hacia una explicacin pragmtica de la alternancia pretrito indefinido / presente histrico en la Relacin de Pachacuti Yanqui
La Relacin de Pachacuti Yanqui, texto peruano del siglo XVII, es un texto narrativo y utiliza un buen nmero de formas verbales del pasado. Este artculo tiene por objeto el estudio del uso y la distribucin de dos de estas formas: el indefinido y el presente usado para indicar lo que sucede en el pasado (presente histrico). El recuento de apariciones hace ver que en la primera parte de la Relacin el porcentaje de aparicin es favorable al llamado presente histrico, mientras que en la segunda parte el porcentaje de aparicin del indefinido es mayor.
La pragmtica de estos tiempos verbales se relaciona con los valores semnticos de los verbos: verbos que poseen el rasgo [+agentividad] hacen aumentar la presencia del presente histrico; en cambio verbos que poseen el rasgo [-agentividad] favorecen el uso del tiempo indefinido.
ROSARIO NAVARRO GALA: Towards a pragmatic explanation of the Past Tense / Historical Present Tense alternance in Pachacuti Yanquis Relacin
Pachacuti Yanquis Relacin is a Peruvian narrative text of the 17thcentury, so it uses a good number of verbal forms of the past. This article aims at the study of the use and the distribution of two of these forms: the Past Tenseand the Present Tense, in order to show what happens in the past (presente histrico). The count of occurrences allows to see that, in the first part of the Relacin, the percentage of occurrences is favorable to the so called Historical

Present Tense, whereas the percentage of the Past Tense is greater in the second part.
The pragmatic use of these verbal tenses is related to the semantic values of the verbs: verbs that have the feature [+agentivity] make increase the presence of the Historical Present Tense; however, verbs that have the feature[-agentivity] favor the use of the Past Tense.
ANA E. VIRKEL: Contacto de lenguas en la etapa inicial de la colonizacin del Chubut (Patagonia)
Este artculo trata sobre la situacin lingstica desde el inicio de la instalacin europea en la Patagonia. La instalacin de colonias de galeses e ingleses en Chubut se produce en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, en concreto, en el ao 1865. Los europeos cohabitaban con pueblos indgenas como los huelches y araucanos. La introduccin de la lengua espaola en la regin de la Patagonia es fruto de la accin del gobierno nacional argentino desde 1878 en adelante. Tras una etapa de bilingismo gals/espaol, la lengua espaola termina por asumir todas las funciones de lengua oficial, aunque el gals sigui usndose durante generaciones como lengua familiar.
ANA E. VIRKEL: Language contact in the beginning of the colonization of Chubut (Patagonia)
This article deals with the linguistic situation of the first European settlers arrived in the Patagonia. The installation of Welsh and English colonies in Chubut takes place in the second half of the 19th century, exactly in 1865. The European cohabited with indigenous peoples like huelches and araucanos. The introduction of the Spanish language in the region of the Patagonia is a result of the action of the Argentine national government since 1878. After a Welsh/Spanish bilingualism stage, the Spanish language has all the functions as an official language, although Welsh went on being used during generations as a family language.
MARA IRENE MOYNA y MARA EUGENIA MARTN: Un alma atravesada: ingls y espaol en la correspondencia de Mara Amparo Ruiz de Burton
En este trabajo se analiza el contacto ingls-espaol en la California de mediados del siglo XIX. La principal aportacin de este trabajo radica en el hecho de que para estudiar el contacto se utiliza un corpus escrito histrico. Lasautoras toman en consideracin para su anlisis 180 cartas con alternancia de cdigos, escritas entre 1859 y 1890 por Mara Amparo Ruiz de Burton, una novelista californiana.

La metodologa que se sigue es la identificacin de todos los casos de alternancia o mezcla de cdigos, entendida como cualquier uso combinado de dos cdigos en un mismo acto de habla. La clasificacin de los ejemplos, cuantificados en porcentajes de frecuencia de uso, se hace siguiendo las categoras de Poplack (1980): alternancias extraoracionales, interoracionales e intraoracionales. Se fijan tambin las funciones o propsitos existentes en los cambios de cdigo: 1) necesidades lingsticas del prstamo, 2) necesidades sociolgicas, 3) motivaciones pragmticas. Todos ellos contribuyen a crear una identidad performativa (activa, cambiante) de la autora de los textos epistolares.
MARA IRENE MOYNA y MARA EUGENIA MARTN: A crossed soul: English and Spanish in the correspondence of Maria Amparo Ruiz de Burton
In this article the English-Spanish language contact in the California of the second half of the 19th century is analyzed. The main contribution of this paperis in the fact that a written historical corpus is used in order to study language contact. The authors take in consideration for their analysis 180 letters written between 1859 and 1890 by Maria Amparo Ruiz de Burton, a Californian novelist.
The methodology they follow is the identification of all the cases of codeswitching, understood as any combined use of two codes in a same speech act. The classification of the examples, quantified in percentage of use frequency, follows the categories of Poplack (1980): extra-, inter- and intrasentences switches. The existing functions or intentions also pay attention to the code changes: 1) linguistic necessities of the loanword, 2) sociological necessities and 3) pragmatic motivations. All of them contribute to create a performativeidentity (i.e. activ, dinamic) of the writer.
ROSA MARA LUCAS FORTEA y JUAN CARLOS TORDERA YLLESCAS, El infinitivo y su sujeto?
En este artculo se trata una vez ms sobre la naturaleza de las construcciones de infinitivo en espaol. Se analizan las contribuciones que intentan resolver la relacin del infinitivo con la oracin de la que depende hechas tanto desde la teora gramatical funcionalista como desde el generativismo. Los autores hacen la propuesta de un nexo , que sera el transpositor desde el punto de vista funcionalista y el ncleo de la proyeccin del complementante desde el punto de vista del generativismo.
