T oday’s Good News: God is far more generous than we would ever expect. However, this may
not always make you happy. When Isaiah calls to the scoundrel and the wicked to “turn to the Lord for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving,” (55:7) you might react: “Well, okay, but there should be some punishment, an appropriate retribution for past sins. That’s only fair and just.” But Jesus takes God’s generosity even further in the parable of the laborers in the vineyard. The owner pays the same amount to those who have slaved through the morning, under the hot noonday sun, and into early evening as to those who showed up at end of the day. Unfair? Remember, this is a kingdom of heaven parable, proclaiming God’s generous mercy for all. We ourselves are invited not only to know the generosity of God, but to show the generosity of God, just as Saint Paul is willing to do. He is willing to stay with the Philippians, even though he is yearning to be with Christ. How is God asking you to express generosity in your life? —We Celebrate Worship Resource, Vol. 42, No. 2

L as Buenas Noticias de hoy: Dios es mucho más generoso de lo que esperábamos. Sin embargo,
esto no siempre puede hacerte feliz. Cuando Isaías llama a los criminales y a los malvados a “que regresen al Señor, y el tendrá piedad; a nuestro Dios, que es rico en perdón”(55: 7), podrías reaccionar: “Bueno, está bien, pero debería haber algún castigo, una
apropiada retribución por los pecados pasados. Eso es justo.” Pero Jesús toma aún más la generosidad de Dios en la parábola de los obreros de la viña. El propietario le paga la misma cantidad a aquellos que se han esclavizado a través de la mañana, bajo el sol caliente del mediodía, y en la tarde temprana, que a los que aparecieron al final del día. ¿Injusto? At Mass in some parishes, people hold hands while they pray the Lord’s Prayer and raise them while proclaiming “for the kingdom.” The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) is silent on this point, so there is no official universal legislation on the custom. Decisions about this gesture are made locally.
The origins of this custom are not clear. There is little evidence for it prior to Vatican II. It may have developed during the 1960s when we struggled to overcome racism and strengthen unity. The Lord’s Prayer seemed an appropriate time to join hands because it is one of the few texts prayed aloud by everyone at Mass in the first person plural. The Eucharistic prayer is in the first person plural, but the priest recites it alone. “Lord, I am not worthy” is prayed by everyone, but in the first person singular. The Lord’s Prayer, though, goes to God from “us,” not “My Father, give me my daily bread and forgive me my trespasses.” Jesus taught us to pray as a community, not as individuals.
The priest extends his hands for the Lord’s Prayer (GIRM 152) as he does for other prayers at Mass. At a concelebrated Mass, the other priests do the same (237). But there is no instruction for the people. Not everyone joins hands for the Lord’s Prayer. Some people make no gesture. Others fold their hands. The posture with the most historical, liturgical, and theological value is the one the priest takes: standing up with hands extended. In the early church, this was how all Christians prayed. To pray with hands aloft does not join hands, but it does join hearts with generations of Christians past.

En la misa en algunas parroquias, la gente se toma la mano mientras ora el rezo del Señor y las levanta mientras proclama "por el reino". La Instrucción General del Misal Romano (GIRM) no dice nada sobre este punto. la costumbre. Las decisiones sobre este gesto se hacen a nivel local.
Los orígenes de esta costumbre no están claros. Hay poca evidencia antes del Vaticano II. Puede que se haya desarrollado durante la década de 1960 cuando luchamos por superar el racismo y fortalecer la unidad. La oración del Señor parecía un momento apropiado para unir las manos porque es uno de los pocos textos orados en voz alta por todos en la misa en la primera persona del plural.
