Introduction

To begin with, the meaning of taboo is “forbidden, not talked about” it is

something that is not mentioned, generally it makes people uncomfortable

when they talk about it.

Death is a taboo. A conversation about death is not comfortable, and it’s worse

when it is necessary to talk about with a child. Even more taboo is to talk about

one’s preparation for death, for something that is imminent.

Death is the end of the party, the end of the life.

In occident, we associate death with skulls, because that’s the part of the body

that remain longer. Normally, the skin and other tissues decay before the bones,

leaving the skeleton exposed. The bones has become a symbol of death.

Nobody is sure of what happens after dying, so people have to confront

something mysterious and unknown, and that’s why some persons are afraid of

death.

Cremation

Cremation is the combustion, vaporization and oxidation of dead bodies to basic

chemical compounds, such as gases, ashes and mineral fragments retaining the

appearance of dry bone.

In the north of India, people burn and throw their deads in the Ganges river.

Even though the water is way too polluted, Hindus believe that the river is

sacred, and it can clean the sins of the soul, and, when dying, it frees of the cycle

of reincarnation.
