VISUAL POLLUTION•When we talk about the impact of buildings on the landsape we can refer to visual pollution, too.•Visual pollution means the presence of man-made implants which are in disharmony with the landscape.•Color disharmony refers to the stark contrast of colors of the implants and artificial ambient colors. In urban areas there is color disharmony in residential areas where bright colors of advertising posters, designed to attract the eye, are in contrast with pale colors of the buildings.•New buildings meet the new requirements of urban life, but do not meet the aesthetic and chromatic requirements of the areas where they are built.

THE PALACE OF THE PARLIAMENTThe Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest is the world’s largest civilian building (according to the World Records Academy) and it can be seen from the moon. An old and important district was demolished in order to build it. Some of the old buildings can still be seen behind the new ones. Nicolae Ceausescu named it the House of the Republic but it is also known as the People’s House.
