Peter Karp “The Arson’s Match (live In NYC With Mick Taylor)”. KarpFoley Music / Rick Lusher 2015. “The Arson’s Match” es un álbum que no había sido publicado hasta ahora. Fue grabado en directo en un concierto en la ciudad de Nueva York con las entradas agotadas. La grabación se realizó para incluirla en un programa de la conocida emisora Sirius Satellite Radio. En este concierto Peter Karp & Roadshow Band interpretaron sus propias canciones acompañados por el legendario ex-guitarrista de los Stones Mick Taylor, siendo ésta la segunda parte del concierto que se recogió en dos diferentes cd’s. Ahora ha visto la luz esta segunda entrega cuyos beneficios van completamente destinados a la investigación sobre el cáncer de ovarios y sobre el que se puede encontrar toda la información visitando la web www.peterkarp.com. De hecho el cantante, compositor, guitarrista y pianista Peter Karp no es un desconocido en este mundo del blues, puesto que además de su colaboración con Mick Taylor también ha tocado con Sue Foley y ha sido uno de los artistas del catálogo de Blind Pig Records. Finalmente podemos decir que las diez canciones que aquí se encuentran no tienen desperdicio alguno y en ellas se manifiesta la influencia de músicos como Freddie King o Elmore James, lo que le ha convertido en un artista muy popular en el panorama del blues, tanto en Estados Unidos como en Canadá y Europa. MUY BUENO. "The Arson's Match" is an album that had not been published till now. It was recorded live during a sold out show in New York. The recording was done to be broadcasted at well known radio station Sirius Satellite Radio. In this show Peter Karp & Roadshow Band performed their own songs with the valuable collaboration of legendary and former Stones guitar player Mick Taylor and the show was recorded in two different cds. Now we have the second one, whose benefits are completely devoted to ovarian cancer research (for more information visit www.peterkarp.com). In fact singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist Peter Karp is not an unknown artist in blues world as, besides his collaboration with Mick Taylor, he has also played with Sue Foley and has been one of the artists of Blind Pig Records catalogue. Finally mention that the ten songs included have not a single bad note on them and let us clearly see the influence he has got of musicians like Freddie King or Elmore James, which has led him to become a very popular artist in blues circles, not only in United States but also in Canada and Europe. Blind Willie Johnson ha sido uno de los cantantes y guitarristas del estilo tejano de preguerra que mas hondo han calado entre los aficionados al blues y al gospel. Entre 1927 y 1930 Johnson grabó más de treinta canciones para el sello Columbia. Sus composiciones han inspirado la música de artistas como Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan o Eric Clapton. Ahora la compañía Alligator ha querido rendir homenaje a este músico recogiendo once canciones interpretadas por otros tantos y diversos artistas como son Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi, Cowboy Junkies, Blind Boys Of Alabama, Sinead O’Connor, Luther Dickinson Featuring The Rising Star Fife & Drum Band, Maria McKee y Rickie Lee Jones. Todos ellos han intervenido de manera magnifica, en una sorprendente colección de canciones en las que capturan todo el espíritu, el alma, la belleza, la intensidad

y, en definitiva, el mensaje misterioso y la auténtica interpretación de este gran maestro que fue Blind Willie Johnson y muy especialmente gracias a la profesionalidad y al entusiasmo que todos los participantes pusieron en el proyecto. MUY BUENO. Blind Willie Johnson has been one of Texas pre-war singers and guitar players who has deeply gone inside the hearts of blues and gospel fans. Between 1927 and 1930 Johnson recorded more than thirty songs for Columbia Records. His compositions have inspired the music of artists like Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan or Eric Clapton. Alligator records has now decided to pay homage to Blind Willie Johnson, publishing a collection of eleven songs performed by a bunch of various artists like Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi, Cowboy Junkies, Blind Boys Of Alabama, Sinead O'Connor, Luther Dickinson featuring The Rising Star Fife & Drum Band, Maria McKee and Rickie Lee Jones. All them have done a magnificent work along an amazing selection of songs that capture the whole spirit, soul, beauty, intensity and, especially the mysterious message and the genuine performing of that great master named Willie Johnson, thanks to the professional and enthusiastic work of all the musician involved in this excellent project. Kaz Hawkins “Get Ready!”. Self Production 2016. Kaz Hawkins es una auténtica luchadora que no se arredra ante las dificultades de la vida. Poco a poco se ha ido consolidando en el mundo de la música. Este disco quiere ser un homenaje a la persistencia, la voluntad y la fuerza que poseen todos los seres humanos, además de un canto a la paz, el amor y la libertad siempre desde su particular punto de vista y de un contexto musical muy personal. Layla Zoe “Breaking Free”- Ruf 2016. Escuchar a Layla Zoe es sufrir una auténtica descarga física y emocional de pura adrenalina, un golpe que

despierta todas las emociones latentes en lo mas interno de nuestro ser. Este es el décimo álbum en su carrera y que confirma a Layla como una de las voces más sobresalientes y con más pegada de la escena del actual blues canadiense. Gracias a la enorme colección de discos de su padre, ya desde muy joven Layla decidió que quería ser cantante. Tasha Taylor “Honey For The Biscuit”. Ruf 2016. Tasha Taylor pertenece a la nueva hornada de jóvenes vocalistas de blues y soul que ha venido para llenar el hueco generacional que dejaron aquellos legendarios nombres tanto del sonido Stax como Motown. De hecho Taylor es hija de uno de aquellos padres del soul de los sesenta, el gran Johnnie Taylor. Su infancia fue completamente atípica de la de las niñas de su edad, ya que se pasaba los días viajando con su padre de aquí para allá en las innumerables giras que éste realizaba por todo el país. Junto a él aprendió todos los secretos y resortes de esta música viviéndola en primera persona tanto en los escenarios como en los duros ensayos. Respaldada por una banda de lujo donde todos los detalles están milimétricamente pensados y concebidos, en este disco Tasha nos presenta trece canciones que encierran lo mejor de los estilos mencionados anteriormente, que nos presenta bajo un envoltorio musical tremendamente actual y efectivo, siempre con el único propósito de poder satisfacer a las mas variadas audiencias, ya que su mayor intención es dar en cada canción lo mejor de si misma, para conseguir así que el público conecte con la emoción que se desprende de su música. Her childhood was totally atypical from other small girls, as she spent days and nights on the road, travelling with her father to the countless tours he used to do all over the country. There she had the opportunity to learn all the secrets of both music and show business, seing all live shows but also participating of the hard rehearsals work. Backed by a deluxe band where all details have been carefully conceived and designed, Tasha has just published a new recording with thirteen songs that gather the best of the previously mentioned styles, displaying them on an actual very effective wrapper, with the only purpose to satisfy the most varied audiences, as her most important aim is to give in each song the best of herself and make people connect with the emotion that comes from her music. Andy Frasco & The U.N. “Happy Bastards”. Ruf 2016. Fundada en el 2007 y liderada por el joven Andy Frasco, quien a los catorce años ya hacia “negocios” en el colegio haciendo de manager para otros grupos de su instituto intentando conseguirles bolos, esta banda viene con el único propósito de proporcionar alegría y diversión de la buena. Lo cierto es que los chicos consiguen embaucar y contagiar al oyente con su mezcla de pop y rock gracias a ese sonido desenfadado y un carisma muy especial que les diferencia de otras muchas bandas de similares características. Su buena labor como instrumentistas y unas composiciones trabajadas y muy comerciales se ajustan perfectamente a lo que el público demanda en estos nuevos tiempos. Actualmente la banda realiza más de doscientos cincuenta conciertos al año tanto en Estados Unidos como en Europa, consiguiendo siempre que la audiencia salga entusiasmada con una sonrisa de oreja a oreja. No es de extrañar pues que el disco se convierta en una auténtica fiesta multicolor gracias a su refrescante pop-rock más algunas gotas y pinceladas de funk, reggae y soul con los que adornan un repertorio bien cuidado y atractivo. Founded in 2007 and led by young man Andy Vial who, only aged fourteen, was already doing "business" at school, working as manager for other school groups trying to find gigs for them, this band comes with the only purpose to give you lots of fun and joy. The true thing is these fellows manage to fool listeners with their mixture of pop and rock thanks to an uninhibited very special charisma which makes them totally different from many other similar bands. Their good work as instrumentalists together with a good worked very commercial compositions, perfectly suit to the actual tastes that people demands on these new times. Nowadays the band performs more than two hundred and fifty concerts per year, both in United States and Europe, and they always get audiences go out of their shows with a big smile in their lips. It is not surprising the album becomes a truly festive and colourful party, thanks to cool pop-rock music with some drops of funk, reggae and soul along a careful well selected and attractive repertoire. Lino Muoio “Mandolin Blues – The Piano Sessions”. . Starass Prod 2016Blues, blues, blues… Un trío perfectamente ensamblado con las ideas muy claras y un sonido que en cada momento consigue captar todo el ambiente y el espíritu de los viejos blues y boogie-woogie de preguerra, junto al más urbano de los años veinte y, en especial, el de los años treinta y cuarenta. El trío se desenvuelve con fidelidad y gran soltura en la tradición más fiel de los barrelhouses, impregnado de frescura y buen sabor todo el álbum desde la

primera a la última canción. Son doce canciones originales interpretadas con soltura, desparpajo y un amor sin límites por el género, canciones que suenan espontáneas derrochando swing, credibilidad y buen gusto. Este trío italiano está compuesto por Lino Muoio mandolina, Mario Donatone piano y voz y Francesco ‘Sleepy’ Miele al contrabajo. Con una carrera a sus espaldas de más de veintisiete años y nueve álbumes, Angel Forrest nos presenta su nuevo trabajo, un disco interesante, rocoso, original y ambicioso. Ganadora de tres premios Maple Blues Awards, los más importantes que se conceden en el campo del blues en su pais, los años 2013, 2014 y 2015 en la categoría de Mejor Vocalista, estos premios han repercutido notablemente en que ésta increíble y volcánica cantante canadiense sea reconocida internacionalmente, lo que le ha procurado una serie de contratos que la han llevado a actuar y girar por diferentes festivales y escenarios a los que no había accedido hasta el momento. The James Hunter Six “Hold On!”. Daptone 2016. Hace solamente una década que James Hunter irrumpió con fuerza en el panorama del soul y del rhythm and blues internacional con su primer álbum “People Gonna Talk” que alcanzó los primeros lugares de las listas de éxito americanas. Con aquel disco James fue también nominado a los premios Grammy y por último recibió grandes elogios, tanto por parte del público, como de otros músicos como Van Morrison, Sharon Jones o Allen Toussaint. Ahora Hunter vuelve nuevamente para deleitarnos con su cuarto álbum, una grabación llena de baladas, retro-soul, rhythm and blues e incluso algo de rumba, donde James despliega todo su talento ofreciendo al oyente un trabajo digno y solvente. Hunter posee también una voz que destaca, no solo por su belleza natural y buen timbre, sino también por la honestidad con la que aborda todas y cada una de las canciones que se incluyen en este soberbio disco que nos retrotrae a los años cincuenta y principios de los sesenta con unas canciones llenas de un calido sonido y unos arreglos elegantes interpretados con muy buen gusto. Big Al Jano’s Blues Mafia Show “NuBlues, A Bit Of Rock & Safe Sex Hip Hop”. Hottrax 2015. El cantante, bajista y ocasional armonicista Big Al Jano lleva ya más de cuarenta y cinco años en el mundo del blues, por lo que conoce sobradamente el negocio. El blues es un estilo que no se le escapa y que aborda con naturalidad y sin complejos, interpretándolo con excelente gusto. Además Jano sabe rodearse siempre y en todo momento de los músicos adecuados para poder desarrollar sus ideas y llevar a cabo sus proyectos tal como los ha concebido en su mente y conseguir que suenen tal como él quiere. Como siempre Jano da un nuevo paso adelante en su búsqueda de un lenguaje del blues que suene universal, bien hecho y sin fisuras. Además de

cantar y tocar el bajo. Big Al Jano está acompañado por Butch “Trooper” Cooper a la batería y voces, Rick “Crazy Fingers” Ware a la guitarra, voces y percusión, Danny Vinson a la guitarra y voces y Keith “Foots” Andersen al piano, órgano y voces. Wax And Boogie “Come With Me”. Self Production 2016. Ster Wax y David Giorcelli han sabido captar como pocos el verdadero espíritu de la música negra americana de los años cincuenta para transformarla en su propio medio de expresión. En este nuevo álbum encontraréis shuffles, boogie woogie, rock ‘n’ roll, swing, jump… Todo ello forma parte de su repertorio habitual y es así como podemos apreciar la fuerza y el feeling que tanto David al piano como Ster a la voz o el resto de los músicos que les acompañan imprimen a esta música fuente de inspiración de todo cuanto vendría más tarde. Un total de catorce canciones completan este nuevo y estupendo trabajo que todos ellos han llevado a cabo con composiciones la mayoría del propio David Giorcelli más algún que otro oscuro ‘cover’. El resultado es un disco intenso, lleno de swing y muy apetecible. Si te gustan los combos de rhythm & blues de los años cincuenta con piano y vientos sobresaliendo por encima de otros instrumentos, junto a la voz genuina de una de las más interesantes y competentes vocalistas de nuestro país, entonces este es un disco que indudablemente no puedes dejar pasar por alto. MUY BUENO. Ster Wax and David Giorcelli really know how to capture the true spirit of fifties American black music and then turn it into their own particular way to express themeselves. In this new album you will find shuffles, boogie woogie, rock 'n' roll, swing, jump… All these musical styles are always present in their usual repertoire so, in this way, we are able to realize the real strength and feeling that both David on piano and Ster on vocals, as well as the rest of musicians who back them, give to the kind of music they play, which was the source of inspiration for the music that came later on. Fourteen songs give shape to this new and wonderful work, most of them Giorcelli’s own compositions plus some quite dark covers. The result is an intense, swinging and very appetizing recording. If you like fifties rhythm & blues combos, where piano and horns outstand over other instruments, plus the genuine voice of one of the most

Emili Baleriola “Contemporary Blues”. Picap 2016. A quien le guste el blues de diseño, el blues fusión, el blues contemporáneo, al tiempo que eterno, o en definitiva, el blues elegante, entonces no debe dejar pasar esta estupenda obra que el maestro Baleriola ha publicado recientemente y donde, después de muchos años, ha vuelto a sus raíces, el blues, un estilo que, aunque nunca había dejado del todo, sí se había apartado de él en cuanto a su forma y estructura armónica. Ahora Emili Baleriola nos presenta un disco donde, además de tocar la guitarra, también canta y lo hace bien respaldado por Xavier Monfort al bajo, Ramón Iniesta a la batería y Jordi Soley a los teclados mas algunos invitados bien escogidos. Un total de doce temas componen el álbum, diez de ellos propios, más el clásico “Born Under A Bad Sign” de Booker T. Jones y el “Crossroads Blues” de Robert Johnson cantado por Jessica Denueda, una de sus invitadas. Aquí no vais a encontrar ningún tipo de dispersión sonora, no, lo que vais a encontrar son unas canciones perfectamente construidas sobre unos patrones de blues ensamblados con rigor y profesionalidad. Todos los músicos que intervienen se han avenido a completar un proyecto de calidad con un discurso bien hilvanado y perfectamente dispuesto. MUY BUENO. Those of you who like design blues, fusion blues, contemporary but at the same time eternal blues, in short words, elegant blues, you should not miss the work that great master Baleriola has recently published where, after many years, he comes back to his roots, blues, a kind of music that, although he had never forgotten it, was far away of his music, especially in formal and harmonic structure terms. You will not find any sound dispersion, no, you will find some songs perfectly built over the blues patterns with a very professional and rigorous work. Steve Hill “Solo Recordings Volume 3”. Self Production / Sarah French 2016. Siempre se ha identificado a los hombres orquesta con el down-home blues. Este no es el caso de Steve Hill quien en todos sus shows toca la guitarra eléctrica, sopla la armónica en el soporte de cuello y con sus pies se acompaña de bombo, caja y platos, además de tocar otros artilugios de percusión que están incorporados en el mástil de su guitarra. Escuchando este álbum uno podría imaginar que se encuentra frente a un cuarteto o quinteto cuando de hecho lo que está oyendo corre todo a cargo de un solo hombre y este se llama Steve Hill. Es por ello que su talento no tiene precio y ha sido encumbrado por el público de la escena canadiense, quien lo ha reconocido como uno de los músicos más emblemáticos de la escena del blues de ese país, especialmente después de la publicación de sus dos primeros discos. En esta su tercera entrega discográfica Steve incluye doce

temas de los cuales nueve son originales y tres covers, un par de ‘medleys’ de Muddy Waters como son “Still A Fool & Rollin’ Stone” y “Rollin’ & Tumblin” mas una canción firmada como tradicional llamada “Going Down That Road Feeling Bad”. Blues descarnado en estado puro a cargo de Steve Hill quien se siente a sus anchas como hombre orquesta e invita al oyente a participar de un viaje de locura y arrebato. MUY BUENO. The one man band music has always been identified with down-home blues. This is not the case of Steve Hill who, in all his shows, plays electric guitar, blows harmonica on a neck holder and, with his feet, backs himself on bass drum, snare drum and hi-hats, besides playing other percussion devices fused to the head of his guitar. Listening to this album one could easily imagine to be in front of a four or five musician band when, in fact, he is only a one man band called Steve Hill. This is why he has a priceless talent which has been praised by Canadian audiences, who have recognized him as one of the most emblematic musicians of that county blues scene, especially after the publication of his previous two recordings. In its third album Steve has included twelve songs, nine original ones and three covers, a couple of Muddy Waters’ medleys like "Still A Fool & Rollin' Stone" and "Rollin' & Tumblin" plus a song qualified as a traditional one called "Going Down That Road Feeling Bad". This is pure raw wild blues by Steve Hill who feels really comfortable as one man band and invites listeners to participate on a mad journey. VERY GOOD.

Janiva Magness “Love Wins Again”. Blueland / Frank Roszak 2016. Con este nuevo trabajo Janiva Magness da un paso al frente en su evolución como artista, compositora y cantante. La Magness se adentra por unos caminos bastante comerciales, buscando de este modo acceder a un público más amplio y variado, no solamente en cuanto a gustos musicales se refiere, sino también a nivel generacional. Hoy en día Janiva se ha convertido en una de las figuras más admiradas y emblemáticas de la escena del blues contemporáneo y de la música americana, maravillando a todas aquellas audiencias que acuden a ver sus conciertos, así como a quienes escuchan sus discos. Para este álbum ha contado con la colaboración del excelente productor Dave Darling quien ha sabido sacar de ella todo el partido y provecho de sus cualidades vocales, ya que para Janiva la voz es el instrumento mas importante y principal, capaz de unir cerebro, corazón, espíritu y alma. Joe Rusi “Who I Am”. Big H Records 2015. Con solamente seis años Joe Rusi aprendió a tocar el violín, pasando enseguida a la guitarra. A los quince empezó a dedicarse profesionalmente a la música por toda la zona de la costa occidental de Noruega y, hoy día, goza de un reconocido y merecido prestigio, lo que le ha llevado a participar en multitud de festivales tanto en su país como en gran parte de Europa. En el año 2012 Joe viajó a los Estados Unidos para formarse en el escenario y acrecentar sus conocimientos bebiendo directamente de las fuentes musicales de las que se ha impregnado hasta la médula. Ahora Rusi ha vuelto a New Orleans para grabar allí este disco. Nueve canciones originales mas dos versiones de clásicos de Earl King y Allen Tousaint que recogen con fidelidad todo el espíritu del soul, el rhythm and blues y el blues de la Louisiana. Para estas grabaciones se ha acompañado por algunos de los mejores músicos de la zona como Johnny Vidacovich, John Papa Gros, James Singleton, Doug Belote o George Porter Jr., quienes ayudan a realzar unos temas ya de por si bien escritos y de una belleza singular. La voz y la guitarra de Joe Rusi brillan con luz propia sobre unas composiciones sobriamente interpretadas y unos arreglos elegantes que se hacen irresistibles a los oídos. MUY BUENO. Only aged six, Joe Rusi learned to play violin and soon he started with guitar. At fifteen he began to play music professionally around Norway west coast. Today he has gained a well deserved recognition, which has led him to be included in most festivals both in his country and in the rest of Europe. In year 2012 Joe travelled to the United States to get a wide experience on stage and increase his knowledge directly from the musical sources that have absolutely influenced him. Now Rusi has travelled back to New Orleans to record this album with nine original songs plus two versions of Earl King’s and Allen Toussaint’s classic tunes, which faithfully gather all the spirit of Louisiana soul, blues and rhythm and blues. For these recordings he has been surrounded by some of the best musicians of that particular area like Johnny Vidacovich, John Papa Gros, James Singleton, Doug Belote or George Porter Jr., who enhance the already well written and beautiful songs. Joe Rusi’s singing and guitar playing shine at a very high level over a bunch of restrained compositions and elegant arrangements that make them totally seductive to the ears. GREAT.

Various Artists “Oslo Bluesklubb 20 Ar”. Big H Records 2015. Una representación de algunos de los músicos mas prestigiosos que suelen actuar habitualmente en el Oslo Bluesklubb se recogen en este fantástico álbum editado por Big H Records, que se convierte en un estupendo muestrario del blues que hoy en día se realiza en este frío país del norte de Europa llamado Noruega. Músicos bien conocidos allí, pero no tan populares en el resto de Europa como Knut Nordhagen, Erik Harstad, Joakim Tinderholt, JT Lauritsen, Sven Zetterberg, Vidar Busk o Kristin Berglund se encuentran aquí representados. También se incluyen algunos músicos norteamericanos como Barrelhouse Chuck, Mighty Sam McClain o Kid Andersen entre otros. Este es un álbum más que recomendable donde se expone con gusto y distinción un estupendo y bien trazado recorrido por el blues contemporáneo enraizado en la mas pura tradición de Texas, Louisiana, Chicago y California. Por supuesto

la temática literaria de las composiciones están muy alejadas de aquellas viejas historias que los bluesmen contaban a mediados del siglo pasado, pero… la música… ¡ah!, la música, no puede ser mejor. MUY BUENO. Some representatives of the most prestigious musicians who usually play at the Oslo Bluesklubb, have been selected to complete this fantastic album published by Big H Records, which becomes a great showcase of the kind of blues that is now played along this cold northern European country called Norway. Well-known musicians there, but not so popular in the rest of Europe, like Knut Nordhagen, Erik Harstad, Joakim Tinderholt, JT Lauritsen, Sven Zetterberg, Vidar Busk or Kristin Berglund become a good example of Norwegian musicians. The album also includes some American musicians like Barrelhouse Chuck, Mighty Sam McClain or Kid Andersen among others. This is a more than recommendable recording, where you will find a tasteful elegant display on an attractive tour around actual blues deeply rooted into the most genuine Texas, Louisiana, Chicago and California styles. Also the literary compositions frame is far away from those old stories bluesmen used to sing in the middle of last century, but… the music… ah!, the music, it can’t be better. GREAT.

Artur Cabanas “Soundtracks”. Self Production 2016. Un álbum instrumental para paladares exigentes es lo que nos propone el guitarrista y compositor Artur Cabanas, quien también se encarga de tocar el bajo y los teclados apoyado por Toni Mateos a la batería y José Gallardo al órgano C3. A lo largo de los nueve cortes del disco se aprecian diversas y variopintas influencias, pues se puede escuchar desde surf hasta blues o rock ‘n’ roll, así como un estilo de groove elegante, popero y bien vestido. En la actualidad Artur Cabanas es profesor de guitarra en el Taller de Musics de Barcelona y está cursando estudios para obtener la titulación superior de jazz y música moderna, además de trabajar con diferentes grupos y formaciones de la ciudad de Barcelona. En este primer trabajo en solitario titulado “Soundtracks”, Cabanas se presenta con unas inmejorables expectativas y dispuesto a llegar a un público que, aunque a priori minoritario, puede verse ampliado gracias a la versatilidad y el virtuosismo con el que despunta, que refleja buenos modos e interesantes maneras, por la calidad con la que se asoma al mercado con éste su primer álbum. An Instrumental album especially devoted to the most demanding palates is the proposal of guitar player and composer Artur Cabanas, who also plays bass and keyboards, well supported by Toni Mateos on drums and Jose Gallardo on organ C3. Along the nine cuts included in the cd you will find various and varied influences that range from surf to blues or rock 'n' roll, as well as a well dressed elegant groovy pop style. Now Artur Cabanas is a guitar teacher at Taller de Musics in Barcelona and he is also preparing his high degree in jazz and popular music, besides working with different Barcelona groups and combos. In this first solo work entitled "Soundtracks", Cabanas introduces himself with great expectations, ready to reach an audience which, although it may seem rather minority, it might increase, thanks to his emerging versatility and virtuosity that reflect good musical ways and very interesting forms, by the quality he has just shown with this first album in the market. Debra Power “Even Redheads Get The Blues”. Self Production 2016. La cantante, pianista y compositora Debra Power es bien conocida, tanto en Canadá como en los Estados Unidos, por la fuerza con la que aborda las canciones, junto a su brillante manera de atacar el piano. Su padre lideraba una orquesta de baile en la época dorada del swing allá por los años cuarenta y Debra aprendió muy pronto a tocar las ochenta y ocho teclas, montando su primera banda cuando todavía estaba en la escuela. A pesar de gozar de una gran popularidad en la escena del blues de Calgary, no ha sido hasta el presente año en el que Debra Power ha publicado éste su primer álbum. Un muy buen trabajo que nos muestra a una mujer pletórica y a la vez brillante, única e irrepetible, y lo hace a lo largo de las diez canciones que ha incluido en el disco, donde abarca desde el blues, al funk, el gospel y el rhythm and blues con solidez, prestancia y profesionalidad. La voz y el piano de Debra están respaldados por Mike Little al Hamond B-3, Russell Broom a la guitarra, Chris Byrne al bajo, Kelly Kruse a la batería y Mike Clark al saxo tenor. Entre todos han conseguido crear una atmósfera cálida al tiempo que desenfadada con unas canciones llenas de ritmo, groove y buenos momentos. MUY BUENO. Singer, piano player and composer Debra Power is well known both in Canada and United States, thanks to her energy to approach songs, as well as her bright piano attack. Her father led a dance orchestra during the golden age of swing back in the forties, so Debra learned very soon to play the eighty-eight keys, founding her first band when he was still in high school. Despite she has got a great popularity in Calgary blues scene, it has not been up to now that Debra Power has released her first album. This is a very good work that shows a woman in high spirits but, at the same time, bright, unique and incomparable, showing it along the ten album songs, covering from blues to funk, gospel and rhythm and blues with good reliability and professionalism. Debra’s voice and piano are backed by Mike Little on Hamond B-3, Russell Broom on guitar, Chris Byrne on bass, Kelly Kruse on drums and Mike Clark on tenor sax. All together succeed to create a warm casual atmosphere with songs full of rhythm, groove and delightful moments. GREAT.

Daniele Tenca “Love Is The Only Law”. Route 61 Music 2016. Un álbum con música, a veces cercana, otras intimista, pero siempre sobria y de una belleza lírica entrañable al estilo de aquellos ‘folksongsters’ en la línea de Donovan y demás trovadores de los años sesenta, aunque también hay canciones mágicas e hipnóticas como salidas de los pantanos de la Louisiana en un ejercicio de swamp-pop a lo Tony Joe White. Las influencias de Daniele Tenca son amplias ya que en su música se encuentran elementos que van desde Lou Reed hasta JJ Cale o los mencionados mas arriba. Desde el año 2010 este cantante, guitarrista y compositor italiano ha ido atesorando una amplia experiencia taloneando y compartiendo escenario junto a Roland Tchakounté, Ana Popovic, Otis Taylor, Johnny Rogers, Johnny Winter, Robben Ford o Andy J. Forest, además de realizar una extensa gira por Italia, su país de origen, junto a Guy Davis. Para este álbum Tenca se ampara bajo un colchón de músicos que le acompañan y arropan con eficacia. Los ingredientes de este sabroso plato que es “Love Is The Only Law” ayudan a ir perfilando la personalidad artística de un músico misterioso y oscuro pero de un singular atractivo. MUY BUENO. An album with music that sometimes becomes very close, other times intimate, but always restrained and full of a lovely lyrical

beauty in the path of those folk-songsters like Donovan and other sixties troubadours but, at the same time, with magical hypnotic songs that remind us Louisiana swamps that follow the path of Tony Joe White’s swamp-pop. Daniele Tenca’s influences are wide and varied, as you will find in his music traces of Lou Reed, JJ Cale or the previously mentioned musicians. Since 2010 this Italian singer, guitar player and composer has gathered a wide experience opening or sharing stage with artists like Roland Tchakounté, Ana Popovic, Otis Taylor, Johnny Rogers, Johnny Winter, Robben Ford or Andy J. Hablar de Big Walter Horton es hablar de uno de los más brillantes exponentes de la armónica de blues amplificada de todos los tiempos. Dotado de una técnica como pocos poseyeron y una creatividad extraordinaria, solo comparable a Little Walter y George ‘Harmónica’ Smith, Walter Horton ha pasado a la historia del blues como un auténtico héroe y modelo para todos los armonicistas y exponentes del moderno blues amplificado de Chicago. En 1940 Big Walter Horton era ya un verdadero estilista y original soplador que había debutado discograficamente el año anterior acompañado por el guitarrista Little Buddy Doyle, aplicando desde esa primera grabación una manera de soplar muy diferente y novedosa de lo que se había hecho hasta entonces. Walter grabó algunas de las líneas melódicas más bellas que ha dado la armónica en el blues. En este álbum varios son los maestros que le rinden tributo y homenaje. Gifted with an uncommon technique and an amazing creativity which could only be comparable to Little Walter and George 'Harmonica' Smith, Walter Horton has an outstanding place in blues history as a real hero and model to follow by all harmonica players of actual amplified Chicago blues. In 1940 Big Walter Horton already was a genuine stylist and very original blower who had done his debut recording the previous year backed by guitar player Little Buddy Doyle, showing since that first recording a new and completely different blowing style and technique to what had been done so far. In addition, Walter recorded some of the most beautiful harmonica blues melodic lines ever played. In this album you will find several harmonica masters who pay tribute to him. Jeff Jensen “The River City Sessions”. Self Production / Frank Roszak 2016. Desde el inicio de su carrera Jeff Jensen ha despertado auténticas pasiones dejando boquiabiertos a todos cuantos han acudido a sus conciertos. Ello se debe en buena manera al entusiasmo que derrocha en todas y cada una de sus actuaciones, ya que su objetivo primordial es comunicar toda su devoción por la música que interpreta. Jeff es también un excelente cantante, compositor y guitarrista, amén de un excelente ‘entertainer’ que domina la escena con muchas tablas y personalidad. El disco fue grabado en directo el 12 de diciembre del 2015 en los estudios Ardent de Memphis ante una audiencia totalmente entregada al espectáculo que Jeff y sus músicos les brindaron. El disco incluye ocho temas originales y tres de sus covers favoritos, uno de Tom Waits, otro de Bob Dylan y el tercero de T-Bone Walker. Además de Jeff Jensen a la guitarra y voz, se encuentran Bill Ruffino al bajo y Robinson Bridgeforth a la batería. Un excelente y apasionado álbum que nos transporta y nos sumerge en el cálido ambiente de muchos de los clubs que se encuentran en Beale Street. MUY BUENO. Since the moment he started his music career. Jeff Jensen has awakened warm passions, surprising all people who always crowd his shows. The reason is the enormous enthusiasm he puts in every one of his gigs, as his main goal is to communicate the deep feeling he brings to his performing. Jeff is also an excellent singer, composer and guitarist, in addition of an excellent entertainer who controls the stage with experience and an amazing personality. The album was recorded live on 12 December 2015 in Ardent Studios in Memphis in front of a totally devoted audience avid to see what Jeff and his musicians gave them. The recording includes eight original songs and three of their favourite covers, one coming from Tom Waits, another by Bob Dylan and the third one by T-Bone Walker. Besides Jeff Jensen on guitar and vocals, you will also find Bill Ruffino on bass and Robinson Bridgeforth on drums. Los Penúltimos “El Apasionante Mundote Los Penúltimos” Self Production 2016. Los Penúltimos no son una banda corriente. Además de cantar todas sus letras en español, intentan darles siempre una nueva dimensión que refleje el apasionante mundo en el que viven su música. Para ello incorporan algunos elementos que van del blues al rock, los ritmos del sur o incluso a las estructuras musicales mas pop de aquellas canciones que caracterizaron a los grupos de la ‘movida madrileña’ de los años ochenta y principios de los noventa. El cuarteto está formado por Ernesto Ulibarri voz, armónica, guitarra rítmica y slide, Jorge Yañez guitarra solista, rítmica y de doce cuerdas, Pablo Ulibarri bajo y Agustín Pilarte batería. Tenemos pues a un grupo inquieto con buenos méritos para sobrevivir entre la gran y enorme competencia que abunda hoy en día entre bandas y formaciones dispuestas a comerse parte del pastel. El resultado de este disco es un atlas con diferentes cromatismos sonoros y unas letras no exentas de un buen y resultón sentido del humor. BUENO The Penúltimos is not a common band. Besides singing all lyrics in Spanish, they always try to give them a new dimension which reflects the exciting world where they live their music. To do so they add various elements ranging from blues to rock, southern rhythms or even some pop musical structures coming from those characteristic songs of bands which belonged to

the "movida madrileña” so in fashion in Spain during the eighties and early nineties. The band includes Ernesto Ulibarri on vocals, harmonica, rhythm and slide guitar, Jorge Yañez on soloist, rhythm and 12 string guitars, Pablo Ulibarri on bass and Agustín Pilarte on drums. We are facing a lively group which is gaining merits to survive into the great and enormous competition among different bands and musicians willing to get a piece of the cake. The album becomes an atlas of different chromatic sounds with lyrics fulfilled of a good sense of humour. GOOD.

Lazy Boots “Lazy Boots”. Rock CD 2016. Liderados por los hermanos Arsuaga, los King Bee han acompañado a diversos músicos americano, siempre con enorme acierto. Sin duda su recuerdo más entrañable es la gira que realizaron con una de las leyendas vivas que todavía nos quedan del blues pantanoso de la Louisiana, y que es el gran Lazy Lester. Junto a este monstruo y su esposa Pike compartieron vivencias, momentos de diversión, charlas, comidas, cenas y, por supuesto, muchísimo blues pero, sobre todo, la inolvidable experiencia de tocar junto a uno de los bluesman que mas admiran. Respeto, veneración y una buena amistad surgió de aquella gira. Es por esto que con este disco y bajo el nombre de los Lazy Boots, quieren ahora rendir un sentido y fraternal homenaje a este legendario maestro del ‘swamp blues’. Un total de catorce temas que fueron guiados telefónicamente por la sabia voz y los consejos del maestro. El grupo construye y aborda con cariño, fuerza, interés, emoción y un amplio conocimiento del género un estupendo repertorio construido sobre unas bases y unas estructuras firmes y llenas de matices, donde la voz y la armónica de Emilio destacan con profesionalidad, intensidad y solvencia, junto al buen hacer del guitarrista Alvaro Bouso, quien también canta con convicción y soltura. MUY BUENO. Led by Arsuaga brothers, The King Bee have backed a bunch of American musicians and they have done it with an amazing success. Undoubtedly their most lovely memory is the tour they did with one of the living Louisiana swamp blues legends, the great Lazy Lester. Together with this blues master and his wife Pike, they shared life experiences, funny moments, relaxed talks, meals and, of course, lots of blues but, over all, the unforgettable experience to play with one of the bluesman they most admire. Respect, veneration and a good friendship came from that tour. With the name of The Lazy Boots, they now want to pay a heartfelt and brotherly tribute to this legendary and outstanding swamp blues musician. Fourteen songs which were guided on phone from USA by the master wise voice and good advice. The band builds up an excellent repertoire with love, strength, commitment, lots of feeling and a wide knowledge over firm bases and structures full of beautiful nuances, where Emilio’s vocals and harmonica playing stand out with intensity and very professional credit, together with the good work of guitar player Alvaro Bouso, who also sings with conviction and reliability.
