Un número más, y con este sumamos la bonita cifra de 63, estamos convencidos que las siguientes nos irán pareciendo más agradables, encuentra a bordo Taxi Magazine. Esta vez es posible que la imagen de portada le haya llamado poderosamente la atención.

La exposición de Gervasio Sánchez en La Tabacalera es un magnífi co ejemplo de la realidad que ven los ojos de los periodistas, que muchas veces parece diferir de lo que sale de sus portátiles. El trabajo del Premio Nacional de Fotografi a de 2009 no tiene desperdicio. Más de un centenar de imágenes que merecen un hueco en su agenda.

En nuestra habitual mirada a la cartelera de los teatros madrileños, nos mantenemos fi eles a una nueva programación del Ballet Nacional de España. Compartimos unos minutos con su director Antonio Najarro, y nos dio argumen-tos sufi cientes para reservar un día un par de asientos en el teatro favorito de la compañía, en el Teatro de la Zarzuela.

Junto a las tradicionales notas de danza, reco-mendamos la enrevesada y divertida historia de Se infi el y no mires con quién, las creaciones musicales de b vocal en el Teatro Häagen Dazs Calderón o la nueva programación del Teatro Fernán Gómez, que trae un texto de Óscar Wilde, El crimen de Lord Arthur Savile.

Lejos de propuestas escénicas, en Madrid tendrá lugar la celebración del II Congreso Internacional de la Felicidad, organizado por el Instituto Coca-Cola de la Felicidad el 9 y 10 de abril. Quizás haya que buscar un motivo para disfrutar más de nuestra felicidad, incluso en el taxi en el que viajamos.

Here comes another issue, this one marking No. 63, a nice fi gure, and we’re convinced that the upcoming editions of Taxi Magazine you will fi nd in taxis will just get better and better. This time the image on our cover may have caught your eye.

Gervasio Sánchez’s exhibition at La Tabacalera is a magnifi cent example of the reality which journalists see, though it may often be a far cry from that which they record on their laptops. The work of the 2009 National Photography Prize winner is priceless. Over 100 images which it is worth making time to see.

In our regular run-down of Madrid’s theater offerings we continue to highlight the Spanish National Ballet’s new program, and we share a few minutes with the group’s director, Antonio Najarro, who convinced us to reserve a couple of seats at the company’s favorite theater: El Teatro de la Zarzuela.

Along with these traditional dance attrac-tions we recommend the winding and wacky farce, Not Now, Darling; the musical crea-tions of b vocal at the Teatro Häagen Dazs Calderón; and the new play at the Teatro Fernán Gómez: Arthur Savile’s Crime, by Oscar Wilde.

On an entirely different note, Madrid will host the 2nd International Happiness Conference, organized by the Coca-Cola Happiness Institute, to be held on April 9th and 10th.

Perhaps we ought to look for reasons to be happy, even as we ride along in a taxi.

La llegada de la primavera invita a los madrileños a salir a la calle para disfrutar de La Noche de los teatros. Con motivo del Día Internacional del Teatro, la Comunidad de Madrid celebra su sexta cita anual con las artes escénicas. Una iniciativa pionera en Europa que acerca al espectador la cara más íntima de la creación con un programa de ensayos abiertos al público. En esta ocasión, el actor y director José Luis Gómez tiene el honor de ofrecer el pregón inaugural de la jornada.The arrival of the spring spurs madrileños out onto the street to enjoy Theater Night. To mark the International Day of Theatre, the Community of Madrid will celebrate its 6th edition of this performing arts event. This represents a pioneering initiative in Europe, allowing audiences a unique look at the creative process at work through a series of rehearsals that are open to the public. La compañía asistió a una comida especial y al ritmo de la mítica canción Greased Lightning deleitaron a todos los invitados con un número exclusivo para ellos. Una exposición fascinante del grabador italiano Giambattista Piranesi. La Obra Social de la Fundación ‘la Caixa’ presenta una amplia colección de grabados de este polifacético artista, uno de los más grandes ilustradores del siglo XVII. Tal si fueran modernos diseñadores, triunfaron en la pasarela de los Teatros del Canal y ahora lucen las galas de su nueva e improvisada colección en el Fígaro, el caso es no parar de crear. Dos días después de terminar en un teatro pasaron a otro con el mismo espectáculo, que por cierto, cada noche es uno distinto. Me explico. Son los chic@s de Impromadrid y Corten es este montaje que dibujan para cada ‘desfi le’ con patrones y telas distintas. Estos tres elegantes personajes se proponen crear una obra de teatro en directo, sin un texto previo. Para conseguirlo pedirán al público sugerencias, que deberán aparecer en la historia, y deberán seguir unas normas y atenerse a ciertas reglas. A partir de ese momento, elementos teatrales como la interpretación, la iluminación, el sonido (de Nacho Mastretta), la escenografía (con la ayuda del graffi tero Suso33) y el vestuario (Tatiana de Sarabia), se irán sucediendo en directo para conseguir el objetivo que estos tres diseñadores teatrales se han marcado: dejarnos boquiabiertos con su gran fondo de armario. As if they were modern designers, they triumphed on the catwalks of the Teatros del Canal, and now they’re performing a new and groundbreaking improv show at El Fígaro. This group just never stops creating. Two days after fi nishing at one theater they moved on to another with the same show, which, by the way, is actually different every night. To explain: The performers are from Impromadrid and Corten (Cut) is what they present for each “fashion show,” with different patterns and fabrics. These three elegant characters set out to create a live work of theater without a pre-established script. To do this they ask the audience for suggestions about where the story should go while following certain rules and sticking to certain guidelines governing this process. After this different theater elements -acting, lighting, sound (by Nacho Mastretta), scenography (with the help of graffi ti artist Suso 33) and wardrobe (Tatiana Sarabia)- come together, live, in pursuit of the goal which these three theater artists have set for themselves: to leave us astounded by their impressive collection of pieces.

La Sala 1 del Matadero se convierte en la corte penal don-de se va a dirimir el destino fi nal del hombre que, según la Biblia, traicionó a Jesucristo. Los últimos días de Judas Iscariote, montaje de la compañía Theatre for the People a partir del texto del autor norteamericano Stephen Aldy Guirgis, ha sido traducido, adaptado y dirigido por Adán Black. La obra sitúa la acción en un lugar llamado Espe-ranza y plantea un juicio en el que se defi ende y fi scaliza la condenación eterna de Judas Iscariote. La vista oral, en la que comparecen personajes como Teresa de Cal-cuta, Sigmund Freud, Satán o Poncio Pilatos, se combina con escenas de la vida de Judas, palabras de su madre y de otros apóstoles y hasta del mismo Jesús. Los últimos días de Judas Iscariote, se sirve tanto del drama como de la comedia para plantear, cuestiones como la culpa, la libertad, el amor, la espiritualidad o la responsabilidad de cada uno con sus propios actos. Es una refl exión que trata de dinamitar las bases de nuestra cultura, proponiendo a Judas como símbolo que cuestiona las ideas establecidas y, supuestamente, inamovibles. Sala 1 at the Matadero de Madrid complex is transfor-med into a courtroom to decide the fi nal fate of the man who, according to the Bible, betrayed Jesus Christ. The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is a production by the Thea-tre for the People drama company, based on the script by American author Stephen Aldy Guirgis, translated, adapted and directed by Adam Black. The work sets the action in a place called Esperanza (Hope) and depicts a trial defending and questioning the eternal indictment of Judas Iscariot. The hearing, featuring appearances by fi gures such as Mother Teresa, Sigmund Freud, Satan and Pontius Pilate, is combined with scenes from the life of Judas and words from his mother, other apostles, and even Jesus himself. The Last Days of Judas Isca-riot, draws on both drama and comedy to explore issues such as guilt, freedom, love, spirituality and each man’s responsibility for his own actions. It is a refl ection which seeks to seriously call into question the very foundations of our culture, presenting Judas as a symbol of all those who challenge established and supposedly sacrosanct .

La sala Azarte apuesta por montajes de calidad y por rostros reconocibles de la televisión para que las obras tengan más proyección. Este mes suben el nivel con Roma, comedia inédita del Tricicle Paco Mir, pro-tagonizada por Javier Cifrián. La obra narra, en tono de comedia, el inexorable paso del tiempo en la vida de una pareja, y como lo que en un principio empieza siendo de un intenso color rosa termina adquiriendo una tonalidad oscura casi negra. Viajamos con esta pareja desde el ilusionante inicio de tortolitos enamo-rados al desengaño que conlleva el paso de los años caminando por dosis de incompresión y falta de verda-dero entendimiento. Mantener esa llama chispeante y ardiente de los comienzos a lo largo de una relación es el verdadero sentido de todo y para ello hay que traba-jar mucho con uno mismo… y con la pareja. Hay que escuchar mucho, comprender mucho, ceder mucho y amar mucho… a la pareja. Es un trabajo en equipo. A lo mejor esta obra nos da las claves para reírnos de cómo somos, para comprender lo que estamos haciendo mal y nos ayuda a conseguirlo. The Sala Azarte continues to exhibit its commitment to quality productions and the use of familiar television personalities as a draw for its shows. They raise the bar with Rome, an original comedy performed by the Trici-cle Paco Mir theater company, starring Javier Cifrián. The play narrates, in a humorous tone, the inexorable passage of time in the life of a couple, and how they go from seeing everything through rose-colored glasses to decidedly darker ones. The audience accompanies this couple over the years, from their idyllic beginnings as lovebirds, to the lack of comprehension and true unders-tanding which sets in over the years. To maintain that bur-ning and lively spark from the beginnings of a relationship one must work a lot both on oneself…and with one’s part-ner. You have to listen a lot, show a lot of understanding , give a lot and love a lot... when it comes to relationships. It’s a two-way street. This work just might give us the keys to laugh at ourselves as we are, understand what we are doing wrong, and to help us get it right.

Es innegable que bajo la dirección de Pablo Muñoz-Chápuli (que también dirige el montaje) la compañía Tela-Katola navega viento en popa como ya demos-tró con Te Quiero, eres perfecto… ¡ya te cambiaré! Ahora nos presentan este musical en clave de rock sobre la ansiedad de llegar a los 30 y ver que tus sue-ños no se han cumplido, bajo la fi rma de Jonathan Larson, autor de la imprescindible Rent. Si bien la autoría del texto de Tick, tick… Boom! suele darse a David Auburn por todos los cambios que realizó a la muerte de Larson en 1996, tanto el libreto original, las letras de las canciones y la música son de Larson, lo que confi rma el talento de un autor que consiguió dar un vuelco al concepto de teatro musical asentado en Broadway. La obra cuenta la historia autobiográ-fi ca del propio Larson escondida tras el personaje de Jon, un joven que ante su inminente treinta cum-pleaños se da cuenta de que ese fue el límite que se puso para cumplir su sueño de estrenar un musical en Broadway o dedicarse a una vida ‘normal’. There’s no doubt that under the direction of Pablo Muñoz-Chápuli (who also oversees the staging) the Tela-Katola company is fi ring on all cylinders, as it already showed in Te Quiero, eres perfecto… ¡ya te cambiaré! They now present this rock musical dea-ling with the anxiety of turning 30 and seeing that you haven’t realized your dreams. The show was written by Jonathan Larson, author of the not-to-be-missed Rent. Though the authorship of Tick, Tick ... Boom! is usually attributed to David Auburn in recognition of all the changes he introduced after Larson 's death in 1996, both the original script, the lyrics and the music were Larson’s work , which confi rms the talent of an author who managed to redefi ne the established con-cept of musical theater on Broadway. The play tells the autobiographical story of Larson himself through his alter ego Jon, a young man who, on the verge of turning 30, realizes that this age was the deadline he had set to debut a musical on Broadway or to lead a “normal” life.

La compañía barcelonesa Egos Teatre regresa a Ma-drid con El crimen de Lord Arthur Savile. Un musical inspirado en el relato de Oscar Wilde que combina sen-tido del humor apto para todos los públicos. La obra cuenta con música original en la que se en-tremezclan sonidos contemporáneos a la novela con infl uencias eclécticas y atemporales.Han transformado el relato de Wilde en un gran show de ilusionismo, fresco y divertido que atrapa al especta-dor con una hilarante historia de destinos cruzados. La trama se desarrolla a través de dos líneas argumentales: la del espectáculo del Gran Séptimo, en la que un quiro-mántico lee en la mano de Arthur su fatal destino; y la epo-peya de Arthur, quien intenta adelantarse al destino y evi-tar llegar al lamentable desenlace, algo que a lo largo del relato se da cuenta que no es tan sencillo de conseguir.

Barcelona’s Egos Teatre returns to Madrid with Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime. A musical inspired by the Oscar Wilde short story, with humor apt for all audiences. The play features original music in which sounds from the era of the novel intertwine with eclectic and time-less infl uences. Wilde’s story has been transformed into a great big show full of illusions. Fresh and fun, it draws audiences in with a hilarious story of crossed destinies. The plot involves two different lines: that of a palmist, Mr. Septimus R. Podgers, who reads Arthur’s hands and sees in it a fatal destiny; and the saga of Arthur, who tries to foil destiny and keep from meeting his tragic fate, something which he will realize, over the course of the story, is not so easy.

The arrival of a new character, Adela, has all the charac-ters scrambling, as a chaotic morass of misunderstandings arises as they all seek to conceal their cheating. A movie ver-sion of Not Now, Darling was directed by Fernando Trueba in 1985, with actress Carmen Maura winning a Premio Sant Jordi for her performance in the fi lm.

The young dancer and choreographer Antonio Najarro is beginning a new phase as the Director of the Span-ish National Ballet (BNE) at the Zarzuela Theater. He began his professional career when he was just 15 at Rafael Aguilar’s Spanish Theater Ballet. Refl ecting a fi ghting spirit, he created his own stagings through his Compañía Antonio Najarro, through which he has been able to take the best in Spanish dance both around and outside the country, until recently signing on to head up the BNE (Spanish National Ballet).

What does the BNE’s annual run at the Zarzuela Theater mean to you? The BNE’s annual run at the Zarzuela is already a clas-sic and this time it is an event which is going to exhibit my initiative, my idea of directing, and my vision as the one in charge of the BNE’s production.

How have you handled your fi rst projects, Ángeles Caídos (Fallen Angels) and Suite Sevilla with the national public company?I’ve approached it as a real challenge in which I’ve sought out the company of several of the leading fi g-ures on today’s dance scene, such as Rocío Molina, Olga Pericet, Javier Latorre, Manuel Linan, Rafaela Carrasco, Rubén Olmo, Francisco Velasco, Hansel >

El joven bailarín y coreógrafo Antonio Najarro estrena nueva etapa como director del Ballet Nacional de Es-paña en el Teatro de la Zarzuela. Con tan solo quince años inició su carrera profesional en el Ballet Teatro Español de Rafael Aguilar. Refl ejo de su espíritu lu-chador fue la creación de sus propios montajes con su Compañía Antonio Najarro, con la cual ha sabido llevar dentro y fuera de las fronteras lo mejor de la danza española hasta su reciente incorporación a la dirección del BNE.

¿Qué supone para ti la cita anual del BNE en el Teatro de la Zarzuela? La cita anual del BNE en el Teatro de la Zarzuela es ya un clásico, y, en esta ocasión, una cita en la que se va a mostrar mi iniciativa, mi idea de dirección, y mi visión como director de la proyección del BNE.

Para embarcarte en este proyecto has tenido que despedirte de los escenarios y de tu compañía. ¿Cómo ha sido ese proceso?Ha sido una decisión que tuve que premeditar mucho, fue realmente muy difícil tomar la decisión de dejar mi compa-ñía que con tanto cariño y esfuerzo había logrado posicionar como uno de los referentes de la danza española actual, pero, al mismo tiempo, me veía en la obligación de afrontar este nuevo reto, sobre todo cuando fui elegido por un comité de expertos a través de un concurso de proyectos.

¿Cuáles son tus apuestas para el futuro del BNE?Mis apuestas son, sobre todo, mostrar que somos un

In order to embark on this project you had to say goodbye to the stage and your company. What was that process like?It was a decision I really had to mull over. At the same time, however, I felt obligated to undertake this new challenge, above all when I was chosen by a committee of experts through a project competition.

What are you committed to as you look to the future of the BNE?My commitments are, fi rst of all, to show that we are

ballet único en el mundo, un ballet en el que lo que tiene que predominar es la buena danza interpretada por los mejores bailarines, una apuesta en la que el vanguardis-mo y las nuevas tendencias de la danza española y el fl amenco estén en perfecta armonía con la recuperación del repertorio y el respeto a nuestras bases.

La variedad de estilos siempre ha estado presente en tu carrera profesional y en tus espectáculos como coreógrafo. ¿Cómo consigues combinar la Danza Española con músicas ajenas al género, como el jazz o los sonidos orientales?Con mucho trabajo y dedicación, obteniendo muchísi-ma información sobre los orígenes de los estilos que estoy combinando y, sobre todo, eligiendo a los mejo-res artistas, tanto bailarines como músicos, diseñado-res, iluminadores, etc, con los que puedo crear y poner en escena un espectáculo de gran calidad.

Si te soy sincero, es mi casa, mi vida es un continuo ir y venir y, cuando tengo la más mínima oportunidad, ne-cesito sentir mi hogar, y es donde más puedo relajarme y “cargar pilas”.

En 2010 fuiste galardonado con el Premio Max al Mejor Intérprete Masculino de la Danza por Jazzing Flamenco y este año has vuelto a ser nominado en esta categoría por Suite Sevilla. ¿Qué signifi ca para ti este reconocimiento?Es muy emocionante, sobre todo cuando son premios que se obtienen a través de la votación de personas de la pro-fesión. Signifi ca para mí un empujón para seguir con fuerza y ganas en este complicado y difícil mundo de la danza, aunque, como siempre digo, soy un gran afortunado de poder dedicarme a lo que es el motor de mi vida, la danza.

El público conoce el fl amenco y a la vez desconoce otras ramas de la danza española como la escuela bolera, clásico español o contemporáneo que requieren de otras disciplinas como el Ballet Clásico. ¿Cree que somos conscientes de la riqueza que alberga este arte? Para nada, no somos conscientes del legado tan mara-villoso y amplio que tenemos, un legado que es admira-do por todo el mundo. Es mi obligación, como máximo responsable del BNE, el hacer todo lo posible porque el público afi cionado y no afi cionado, se interese en des-cubrir que tenemos un gran tesoro, un tesoro que ha abierto muchas puertas a nuestro país, que nos repre-senta y que tiene un valor incalculable.

A dancer’s life means being constantly on tour. When you do return to Madrid, your hometown, what is your favorite haunt to get away from it all? To be honest, my house. In my life I’m always on the go, so when I have the smallest opportunity I need to get back and feel at home, where I can relax and “re-charge my batteries.”

In 2010 you received the Max Prize for Best Male Dancer for Jazzing Flamenco, and this year you have been nominated again for Suite Sevilla. What does this recognition mean to you?It’s very exciting, above all when they are prizes which are determined by votes cast by people in the busi-ness. For me it represents a vote of confi dence to forge on, with strength and desire, in this complicated and diffi cult world of dance. As I always say, though, I am very lucky to be able to dedicate myself to my pas-sion in life: dance.

The public knows fl amenco but does not know other varieties of Spanish dance such as Bolera, Classic Spanish or Contemporary, which call upon other disciplines, such as Classic Ballet. Do you think that we are conscious of this art’s rich legacy? Not at all. We are not aware of the marvellous and am-ple legacy we have, one which is admired all around the world. It is my duty, as the man in charge of the BNE, to do everything I can so that the public, both dance enthusiasts and others, takes an interest and discovers that we have a great treasure, one which has opened many doors for our country, one which represents us and is of incalculable value.

A total of 48 images which prompt one to refl ect on the hu-manist perspective of a photojournalist who has risked it all to cover most of the armed confl icts occurring all around the world during the last quarter of the 20th century. The shots depict different realities captured in European coun-tries, Africa, Latin America and other corners of the world destroyed by wars, disasters, epidemics and injustice.>

>La exposición, comisariada por Sandra Balsells, se divide en cinco bloques que se inician en Centroamérica en 1984, donde los niños en muchas ocasiones son protagonistas involuntarios de esas instantáneas en enclaves tan agita-dos como El Salvador, Nicaragua o Guatemala para pasar después a Chile, Panamá, Perú y Colombia.El segundo escenario es Yugoslavia, lugar clave donde se crea un punto de infl exión decisivo en la trayectoria de Sánchez tras trabajar en los Balcanes cubriendo la guerra serbo-croata. África centra el siguiente bloque, con un pe-riodo que va desde 1994 a 2004 y en el que el periodista re-conoce haber vivido sus "peores momentos profesionales", por tener que retratar el éxodo de refugiados hacia Congo, la devastadora hambruna en Sudán, las salvajes mutilacio-nes de Sierra Leona o a miles de niños moribundos por los estragos del cólera en Ruanda.

The exhibition, curated by Sandra Balsells, is divided into fi ve blocks, beginning in Central America in 1984, where children are often the unwilling protagonists of those snapshots in strife-torn enclaves such as El Sal-vador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Chile, Panama, Peru and Colombia.The second site is Yugoslavia, a key location which marked a turning point in Sanchez’s career after work-ing in the Balkans covering the Serbian-Croat War. La exposición también incluye ocho murales con los retra-tos de cien personas víctimas de mutilaciones y ex niños soldados, además de seis audiovisuales en los que se muestran fotografías obtenidas en una larga travesía por más veinticinco años de tenaz trabajo.Una oportunidad de ver en imágenes las consecuencias que la guerra y los confl ictos sociales tienen en el desarrollo de la humanidad. Esta muestra antológica es un homenaje a la obra de Gervasio Sánchez, un fotógrafo comprometido, fuerte y constante, el cual lamenta que muchos periodistas hayan dejado de ser "los vigilantes del poder político y eco-nómico" para convertirse en sus amigos más privilegiados.

Desaparecidos (Missing) is the last section of the ex-hibit (1998-2010), a major project which exposes the viewer to the painful drama of disappearances in ten countries, including Spain, where he had not previ-ously worked. The exhibit also includes 8 murals with the portraits of 100 victims of mutilations and former child soldiers, in addition to 6 audiovisual displays with photographs taken over the course of his over 25 years of tena-cious work.An opportunity to take in images of the consequences of the war and the social confl icts affl icting human-ity. This anthology is a tribute to the work of Gervasio Sánchez , a committed, strong-willed and conscien-tious photographer who laments that many journalists are no longer "the watchdogs of political and economic power” but rather “its most privileged friends”.

La rubia se llama Susana y cambia constantemente de postura sobre su toalla. El pelo le cae liso hasta la mitad de la espalda. Tiene la frente despejada y lleva gafas de sol deportivas como una diadema de cristales tintados.–Le dije a David que estaba harta de la casa. Que no podía más –dice con un golpe de cabeza que desliza en bloque su pelo sobre la espalda.– ¿Y qué te dijo? –dice una de sus amigas.–Que no lo entendía. ¿Te lo puedes creer? Total, que quince días después estábamos aquí. Es más caro, pero vamos, podemos sin problemas.–Qué bien –dice otra.Alguien se ha lanzado al agua. Las cuatro miran. Es un hombre que emerge de la superficie con el pelo brillante y el rostro relajado.– ¡Si casi se me olvida! –dice una – ¿Sabéis quién se casa? ¿Os acordáis de Laura? Laura, Laura… –No –dice otra llevándose la mano a la boca.–Te lo juro. Me lo dijo ayer mi madre que se encontró con la suya en el dentista. Y muy fuerte: El novio es el dentista. El hombre chapotea en el borde y abre la ducha. El chorro forma una capa de espuma sobre su cabeza. Las cuatro le miran, en silencio.–Y por lo visto es guapo y juega al squash. Eso dice mi madre.No dicen nada. Sólo Susana cambia de nuevo de postura. Cruza las piernas dobladas y yergue el torso estirando los brazos hacia arriba, como desperezándose.
