Something In The Water

In addition to being extremely long,

ultramarathons are also infamous for their

particularly difficult courses.

To get a better idea of how hard these can

be, you only have to look at one of themost famous ultradistance races;

The Badwater 135.

Bridging The Gap

So why in the world would anyone want to

race these kind of distances? With ultras,

because they are so new, sometimes it’s

not about beating a previous record, butstarting new traditions.

“Wanting to place first in something and wanting to be the first to do something aretwo different mentalities.”

For the Bridge Runners, running is a way to

build community and friendships. 100 miles

doesn’t seem so long when you have a

constant stream of friends meeting you atdifferent points to cheer you on with moral

Eat and Run

Some people run for the competition, theachievement, or the people. Some people

run for reasons even beyond that.

Scott Jurek is a world-class championrunner, who not only finishes

ultramarathons, but hewins

them.

He wrote a book about his experiences.

For Jurek, running was more to him than a job orhobby. It was a way for him to escape, to

understand life, and to understand himself.

We all have our own different passions in life.Something I really became interested in whileresearching, is seeing how these ultrarunners

literally pursue what they want. Their hard workis admirable and I aspire to apply that ethic tomy own life.
