¡Bienvenidos a Guanajuato.

The diversity of our sites is our greatest attraction as a tourist destination. San Miguel de Allende, the state capital of Guanajuato City, and Dolores Hidalgo (the Cradle of Mexican Independence) offer the most authentic and charming colonial atmosphere and recognition of their history as the “Land of Conspirators,” birthplace of Mexico’s Independence in these sturdy enclaves. Two hundred years reflect upon us proudly, full of memories and a prevailing and modern spirit, which is to be savored immensely.
The vanguard and modernity of present-day Mexico is reflected in cities such as Celaya, Salamanca, Irapuato, and León, noted for their vocation for business tourism and for being considered the economic engine of the State. Meanwhile, the customs, and the history of mining in Mexico and and the architecture take shape in the ghost town of Mineral de Pozos.
We also know that culture, folklore, and art comprise an impeccable combination that is fashioned in Guanajuato and represented in the works of art of the great Guanajuatense artists. And if we contemplate being in contact with nature, the north and south of our State offer ideal options for adventure tourism.
Without doubt, Guanajuato is a magical and unequaled destination that, with the warmth of its people and the quality of its tourism services, ensures a pleasurable visit in which hospitality is a guarantee for the visitor.
The Guanajuato Treasures Quality Club is a project that we have been promoting for three years, with the objective of providing incentives for quality and professionalism in our tourism services to offer the best of Guanajuato to our visitors. recognition by the Quality Club, the solidity and success of a job well done, always seeking novel, original, and creative responses will enable us to cope with complex times in which handling with care, imagination, and persistence are essential to differentiate.

The state of Guanajuato is so fortunate as to host at least one different color every month. From the red shades on the treetops in May to the purple tones in June, when the streets are embellished with the violet veil of the jacaranda flowers and the asphalt turns into a slippery purplish carpet through which cars try to make their way. December is full of yellow meadows, avid of water, often covered with fog. February is vivid blue, September brings olive green tones... All the colours are here. It is difficult to choose. However, if the traveller had to, he would probably choose the rainy grey afternoons from march to november.

Its admirable monuments stand as proud testimony to our nation’s history: authentic Colonial Gems. Some of the most important chapters of Mexican history unfolded amidst this state’s architectural backdrop of incomparable beauty. The liberal sentiment was forged in San Miguel de Allende, burst on to the national scene in Dolores Hidalgo (whose official title: Cuna de Independencia Nacional or C.I.N. for short, refers to the “Birthplace of National Independence”) with Hidalgo’s Cry of Independence in 1810, and waged its first battle in the city of Guanajuato with the dramatic burning of the Puerta de la Alhóndiga de Granaditas opening the gates to Independent Mexico.
The State of Guanajuato is history, culture,
architectural jewels, nature, and open-hearted
people; a state that shines in the heart of Mexico.
Guanajuato, state capital and city declared World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, it owes its beauty and magnificent architecture to the vast production of gold and silver of its mines during the colonial era. The hands of its men and women breathe life to the Mexican art produced here through meaningful artworks and carefully produced handicrafts.
Baroque art and culture echo throughout the city’s churches and plazas, unparalleled museums, and characteristic winding streets. A stroll through Jardín union and Plaza de la Paz and among the city’s one-of-a-kind underground streets, stopping to admire one of Mexico’s most beautiful theaters, Teatro Juárez, followed by the obligatory ritual of love in our famous Callejón del Beso (“kiss alley”), are just some of the attractions offered by the Cervantes Capital of America.

The historic legacy of the State of Guanajuato is as valuable as its natural geography is diverse and rich. These innate conditions provide an ideal setting as a tourism destination with immense potential and attraction, fostering the harmonic development and expansion of tourism options with unique personalities and solid quality. Services include excellent services and the most professional attention in hotels and restaurants capable of responding to the demands of the national and international tourist.
The Treasures of Guanajuato Quality Club brings together the best of these new tourism services. The members of this elite group of companies voluntarily open their installations, facilities, services and administrations to an exhaustive annual analysis and review to assure the highest quality standards. Guanajuato has joined forces with the Quality Club initiative, currently in its tenth year at the national level, promoted by a group of State Governments with the support of the Federal Ministry of Tourism (SECTur).
Quality Club establishments stand out because of the minute attention dedicated to even the smallest details, providing spaces decorated with exquisite care and outfitted with all the comforts, while maintaining their character and authenticity. Quality Club member services are based on the most personalized level of attention extended to each of our visitors.
The Prestige Guide 2011 presents, in its fourth year, the seventeen establishments in Guanajuato -twelve hotels and five restaurants- whose quality levels have overly met the required criteria. Each of these hotels and restaurants maintains a Quality Plan to continue to guarantee the complete satisfaction of its clients.

Take an excursion through the most original flavors of Mexican cuisine at Casa Poniente located in the heart of the Bajío. Bright, juicy red tomatoes, coriander, tender cloves of garlic, and of course that touch of joy provided by Mexico’s peppers in their multiple varieties … first-quality ingredients such as these, pleasing to eye and tongue, give life to the continually evolving menu of this first class restaurant. Osso bucco browned in a five-chili crust, duck barbecue, and dried deer meat tacos are some signature dishes created in the hearths of Mexico’s Top Chef Eduardo osuna, at the forefront of 21st century gastronomical trends.

A CITY oN THrEE LEvELSBuilt on a cliff, Guanajuato had to grow vertically in order to survive. Its streets follow the remains of the ancient thoroughfares carved out by water. The mountain was first perforated by channels of water, which subsequently became communication trails and now these tunnels are a part of the cityscape. And only in the twentieth century when the scenic mountain road constructed was the city able to grow from the top downwards. This tour offers a rare view of the city, but the experience is magical.
Departing from and ending at the unión Garden, on foot -also on a funicular- going up and down the capital amidst temples, museums, beatiful vantage points, squares, alleys... and inside tunnels and legendary places.

Achieving a harmonious blend of European classicism and Mexican tradition is no easy task. Quinta Las Acacias has decorated its lounges and rooms in a refined, French 19th century style, which it combines with local tradition in other parts of the hotel. Period furniture, brightly-colored rugs, carpets and china…the choice is yours. This unusual, comfortable cocktail of a hotel is served in Guanajuato in a 19th century building, painted in terracotta tones and surrounded by gardens and terraces overlooking the mountainous landscape of the state capital.

Breakfast in San MiguelMoMENT IN SAN MIGuEL DE ALLENDEAllende gardenThe traveler has heard that San Miguel de Allende is a town that changes every hour, with an eclectic architecture that contains the dreams of a master quarrier. You can check it out by having breakfast at the terrace of Café del Jardín, in front of the church. Its name already makes you hesitate. If this is the parish church then... how big will the cathedral be? opposite the café, the enormous neogothic facade designed in 1880 by Ceferino Gutiérrez, a local mason, seems to be built of wax instead of stone. The first statement will be verified later, contrasting slow promenades and the whirlwind of so many things to visit, read and live.

Casa de los olivos looks as though it came straight out of a French interior décor magazine. Everything has been designed to ensure its guests’ comfort and please the eye. This colonial mansion, dating back over two hundred years, has recently been attractively renovated and has just five beautifully appointed rooms with fine linen. It boasts a central courtyard surrounded by olive trees and lavender, whose refreshing scent wafts through the hotel, painted throughout in earth tones. You can enjoy a drink or an aperitif in its spacious terrace overlooking the historic domes of greater San Miguel de Allende.

Named after two colonial mansions built over 200 years ago, this comfortable, refined hotel was opened in 2004. This skill of its architects and interior designers is borne out by its attractively distributed spaces and carefully chosen materials and settings. The balance between colonial and contemporary is reflected in the décor and all the rooms which, distributed among three floors, are enhanced by a magnificent terrace that serves as an urban oasis and provides a superb view of San Miguel de Allende. This attention to detail is also evident in its hotel services. Carlo Alberto Laposse Adame

San Miguel de Allende, particularly its urban aspect, would be impossible to understand without this spectacular house, adjoining the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel. Formerly the Hospital de Naturales de la Purísima Concepción -a jewel of 18th century colonial architecture- and subsequently the residence of Guadalupe rivera Marín, the daughter of painter Diego rivera, it is now a gorgeous 16-room hotel whose terraces and balconies are steeped in the city’s history. Its rooms are decorated with a blend of styles ranging from traditional Mexican to Indian and Moroccan while its leafy courtyards reflect the essence of the city.

Eduardo osuna is one of the most outstanding new mexican chefs. Built-up in Spain, in the kitchens of the roca family (3 Michelin stars) applies techniques and concepts of the European avant-garde on a purely Mexican basis. The result is a sophisticated creation with top quality ingredients. The roasted duck is amazing, as the bandera cream is; the ossobucco and the tuna will attract even the most experienced palate. A la carte menu, seasonal dishes, bar and live music at weekends. The setting: an elegant colonial house situated in the very old downtown of San Miguel, contemporary decor where from its walls hang acrylics belonging to the artist Lourdes León.Eduardo Osuna
