Operating Principal

The FB-S is a traditional three-pass horizontalfiretube boiler. The first pass flows through thefurnace from front to back. The furnace iscorrugated to maximize efficiency while alsominimizing thermal stress.

The second and third passes travel through heavy

duty seamless tubes. Flue gasses travel first fromthe combustion furnace to the front chamberforming the second pass. The gases then flow

through the third pass tubes to the back of theboiler stack and out the exhaust vent, locatedconveniently in the back of the boiler.

Rear stack connection for easy venting.

Multiple banks of heavy gauge seamlessboiler tubes used in the second and thirdflue pass ensure durability.

Water-backed design eliminates heavyrefractory on rear door while increasingefficiency and reducing radiant heat loss.

Large water volume and generous steamchamber ensure low sensitivity to load

change and pressure vessel stability.

The combustion chamber is locatedbelow the water level and with enoughclearance from the bottom of the boiler toallow for optimal water circulation. Thelow placement of the combustionchamber provides an additional buffer

between the furnace and the water level,providing higher quality steam.

The large diameter corrugatedcombustion chamber provides a generous

heating surface area. This enhances heattransfer while reducing heat flux.

In addition to reinforcing the overallstrength of the combustion chamber, thecorrugation also increases the longevity ofthe pressure vessel. This is due to asubstantial reduction in thermal and

mechanical fatigue caused by cyclicalexpansion and contraction.

The large surface area of the burnerinitially reduces exit temperatures through

enhanced radiation and convection.Radiant heat losses from the gas chamberare then minimized by heavy insulation onthe front door. This also helps to reducethe temperature of the front door.

The gas chamber is air insulated to reduceheat exchange loss. Though it is not a partof the pressure vessel, it does play acrucial role in the boiler design.
