Our Goal Is to serve as a communicator for researchingand tracing the Guindon Family history. Our primary focus will be the ancestors and descendants of Francois Guedon & Marie Mollay’s son, Pierre Guindon, born 24Sep 1662, St. Pierre du Marche, Ville du Loudun, township Chaelleraut, diocese Poitiers, Poitou, France.

On the 21st of November 1706 Pierre married Catharine Rouchellet-Braza (widow of Vincellet) at the Notre Dame Church in Montreal, Quebec.

He died on the 26 of September 1733 at St. Francois Ile Jésus, Quebec.

The Guindon Reunion on Aug 4,5,6 in Hammond, Ontario was a great success with over 250 relatives attending and making their connections. We definitely have to give Pat McCarron Guindon credit when she became chairperson five years ago. Her organization skills showed through when she wore many hats: Chairperson, secretary, registration etc. She set up a wonderful database to track the registration and Guindon newsletter subscriptions.

Andre & Andrea Guindon (Photographers) did a fantastic job of taking pictures to keep the memory of this wonderful weekend alive. With the help of Joyce Fraser, Lyn Webster, and Laverne & Jim Aitchison we were able to color code everyone for the pictures and help the different families connect to each other. Sussex Drive in Ottawa on Friday morning before the reunion. Some came to do family research and others came to witness the special donation of Laverne Aitchison’s book “Where Have All the Yandeau’s Gone?” to the Francophone Society.

MATHIEU CHURCH, HAMMOND, ONTARIO The Family Mass was said by Father Roger Guindon, served by Rene and Simone Guindon, directed by Sister Andree Guindon, music provided by Mance Farrell and her daughter Maxime, readings by Anne-Marie Guindon and Maxime Farrell, and flute by Caroline Guindon The last song was written and adapted by Mance Farrell and sung by her daughter Maxime. The words of the song said it all –

“WE ARE A FAMILY”!!

Article that appeared in the Rockland local newspaper, “Le Reflet”,

on August 11, 2000 Les Guindon sement en famille - literally translated means - The Guindons plant/cultivate together as a family. But 'sement' also sounds like ‘s’aiment’, which means to love each other as a family.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION: Hammond - Pierre Guindon, born Sept 24 1662, common ancestor of all the Guindon descendants in North America would be proud! He left his birthplace in Loudun, Poitou, France to escape the religious wars and the plague in 1689. Approximately 250 Guindon gathered for a family reunion. They decided to plant a commemorative Norwegian maple tree in front of the presbytery. "We must encourage family reunion. The family unit is the basis of our society " noted Father Marcel Leger, the parish priest in Hammond. One of the organizers, Patricia Guindon had kind thoughts for her ancestor: "This tree symbolizes our family tree and our connection to our roots".
